Playing Control, but not capturing zones.

Guys, c'mon...I've dug through some players profiles, and I see their Control stats and they have very little captures, only kills. Isn't that what Clash and/or Rumble are for? I know, I know, the hate may possibly ensue, but hear me out; if I see a player standing near a zone that has been captured by the other team, and they're still just standing there camping, that's not playing the objective. I respect great players, but I don't like seeing people just running around getting kills when that's not the primary purpose of that particular game. Edit: Thanks for all the comments. It's nice to see different people's strategies.

I play defense on my zones for the most part so you'll only see me ever get one or two captures. Control isn't about getting zones, you're job is to get them for the multipliers on kills. So naturally you want to have at least 2, only go for three if you can for sure control all three. Going back and forth capturing zones don't win games, it helps but essentially making the most out of the zones with kills is what will win you games majority of the time. So if you keep two for most of the game, you should win as you'll get double the points per kill so long as your team gets the kills. So if someone in it just for kills is letting the other team keep two zones then yes, he's not helping unless he can make up for it by say getting 40 kills and his team not dyeing much then you're not losing much even tho you only have one zone, still gotta be careful cuz points can rack up with the opposing team having the extra flag zone.

Control in Destiny is NOT Domination from CoD. Having control of flags in Domination gives you points. Having control of flags in Control DOES NOT, but it gives you a multiplier on your kills. You get points for kills, more points for kills while controlling more flags. It's not necessary to grab flags to win, it just helps tremendously.

    • It was funny. I played a map where we only held "C" on Shores of Time and we wrecked them. It was funny they kept rush in we just kept sniping

    • If you're playing defence, and you're good at playing defence, you'll have only one capture, because no-one ever took your zone off you.

    • When I play with my clan we each have specific roles to fill. Some of us are obj players while some are slayers. I can Olay both but I tend to lean toward slaying. It's what I'm good at lol

Not saying you OP... but most the players in Destiny have no REAL idea on how to play Control. The objective is not to continue to capture flag points... but to CONTROL them. After you get the first 2 points, this is all you need to secure victory. I actually hate it when we have the 2 control points, and have the enemy pinned and people feel the need to go CLOSE to or even cap the last point. All this does is spawn the enemy behind us... giving them a small chance to turn the tide and flip the spawns and the control points. Cap 2 points, and Control those points by killing... HOLD A LINE, and don't go past it. if done correctly the enemy always comes from the same spawning area, you keep killing them, and the most caps anyone should ever have in a single game is 2... (again, if done correctly meaning not losing the initial 2 cap'd points)

          • The way you win control is to get kills lol. But you're right you definitely need the two strong zones to win and alot of people ignore zones completely. I feel like alot of those guys are the CoD guys who play domination to get kills from people playing the objective rather than play the objective themselves. Unfortunately, they don't understand that by doing that in control, they are not always helping their team.

I like to think as the control points as a bulb of light and the noobs are the moths. Like moths are attracted to light, the noobs latch onto the control point. Even though theres enemies waiting to kill you, you jump on it anyways. For what? To capture it and then lose it 10 seconds later? The control points are bait. Make sure its clear THEN capture it.

              • tbh your negative k/d in control is more of a detriment than a lack of capture points. What...did you think this was call of duty...

                • Spawn control is an asset to winning. Hold only two flags to do so.

                • actually getting kills is the primary objective, the more zones you control the more points are awarded for each kill so yeah, killing is the primary objective

                • A lot of groups, like mine for Instance, will not capture zones and only go for a lot of kills. one GAME each member of the team got above 25 kills

Actually getting kills is the primary purpose. the number of control points held determines the points you get for a kill. If you have three control points but make no kills, you get no points and loose. If you have one control point and make many kills, you get many points and you win. Killing is more important than control points (you should have at least one off course)

                • You need a mixture. The capture hero Takes the focus and dies but ensures the team get the guys who took him down. The tactical guy Will flank to the most beneficial flag or pretend to cap to draw back the other team. The sniper Never really gets near flags but can usually be found hard scoping flags / areas near to provide cover That Thorn guy Stays just behind the capture hero but will take people head on, dat poison tho. The croucher Sits by a flag in a corner with a shotgun frustrating people and putting them off there game, hated. The Leader Calls out enemies, Calls out what flags to hold, Calls out heavy ammo timing, Vital.

Me some randoms won a few matches in a row with just one flag..don't get pissy because you die for going B or C ..plus I paid 70$ for my game and I'll play it how I want.

                  • Ideally your team will ony capture two zones per match so if you have a bunch of captures you're doing something wrong. You could have stayed back and protected what you had instead of running around in circles, where you most likely will get killed a bunch too.

They have to keep KD up, so they are scared to chill in the zone and get panicked or bombed. Do not worry team, I will take those bullets, just avenge me!
