READ EDIT 3 PLEASE! It's the most updated form of my proposal, I've been reading everyone's responses and taking into consideration what people are saying and have tried coming up with acceptable alternatives. I also spoiler(ed) the first edit, so that you can see it if you wish, but I realize exactly how stupid the edit is, also it's to make people who posted about it not seem insane.
The video that I have linked is the one from Gothalion that talks about changes that he would like to see in ToO. I am inclined to agree, mainly because I find it completely unfair for someone like myself, who is DECENT, not bad, not great, just decent at PvP and more inclined towards the IB type gameplay, to have to face people who are almost all PvP exclusive players. Those who basically play the game for the PvP completely outmatch people like myself and it's extremely frustrating as I have no chance to get the Mercury chest unless I find a pair of people who are so good that it doesn't really matter what I do, as long as I can stay alive long enough to get a few shots in.
Now call me a whiner if you want, I don't really care. But I feel that it is unfair to those who aren't very good at this type of gameplay or aren't as good as those who play PvP and are highly skilled, as they have little to no chance of success. In addition those who are skilled aren't getting as much challenge as they could be getting. Say a team can typically go 9-0 repeatedly without much effort, and same with a few other teams, why pit them against those who barely scrape out wins, and might go 9-0 once throughout the entire experience in a week? Why not pit them against each other and give them the challenge that they deserve?
Edit: I just think right now Trials is super tilted towards the best PvP players with little to no chance of those who don't play PvP as our main activity, now this is supposed to give the hardcore pvp players a challenge, I will concede that concept. However, some of the best non-exotic weapons are only obtainable via Trials, which means that those who aren't the best are basically gated out of having them.
Edit 2: Also take into consideration that the best PvE weapons can be found in the lighthouse as they have some of the best stat rolls on guns and burns to boot, something that isn't necessary in PvP but is damn useful in PvE. So as it is, PvE players are getting punished for not playing PvP as much and being able to go 9-0 against rather unfair odds.
Edit 3: Thanks to those of you pointing out that I suck at PvP... I wasn't talking about K/D anyway, as I mostly play control and have been getting better K/D in large match based games when I play them.... that aside I wanted to add this: If there was an equivalent gear set from PoE that was suited for PvE and had good stats, rolls and burns, then there wouldn't even be an issue, it's the fact that adept weapons in the lighthouse are so good in PvE and there's nothing for PvE players of the same caliber from PoE right now.
Continuing with the edit, 'git gud' or any variation of that phrase isn't helpful, here's the thing, I'm not complaining because I want trials to be easier or harder for one set of people or another. I want it so that people who have gone flawless are more likely to fight other flawless teams. Say an "Ascended" buff that acts like a NF buff, and outside of PvP you glow a little, like a god almost. When you go back to play again that week, you play other Ascended players, or at least players with high score cards if there are none available on your connection level. Give those who go flawless on "Ascended" buff get another chest with higher chance for even better gear, maybe even make it have a guaranteed exotic drop or something. That way everyone who's good gets their chest, and everyone who is better than that gets a second one. It would reset each week.

If a pvp player wants to run skolas, what does he do? He gets some of his pve buddies to help him out or his pvp crew practices for days on end. Same concept. This isn't geared for casual pvp players. Solution: practice practice practice or get two of your pvp buddies. I haven't been to the lighthouse, I want to, and one day I will. I know it ain't in my wheelhouse, but I'll get there eventually

How many would be really getting to the Lighthouse if there was skill based match making? Not near as many I don't think. Let's face facts, between the cheaters/lag switchers (which inevitably get caught) getting to the Lighthouse and the average/good players getting there because of playing bad teams, I don't think many teams thus far has truly had a skilled matchup to claim being that good. Sure there are amazing players/teams that regardless of skill based matchmaking will always be fortunate enough to make it to 9-0 and go to the Lighthouse. Skill based matchmaking would be a true test of who really is good enough to get there. Let's see 9-0 teams going against one another, not 9-0 teams going against 3 randoms that only met 5 minutes before the match. All those claiming they are that good, or telling others to "get good scrub" etc have probably never had a true test of skill. Your just lucky enough to be going against teams with no communication or teamwork. Just my thoughts on the situation, not saying I'm right or wrong.

1 ReplyThere already is a PvP mode for people who are not good at crucible; called Iron banner.
-
4 RepliesThis would solve absolutely nothing. Trials is not meant for decent pvp players if you can't win then it's not for you. Also I could just do bad all week in pvp on purpose to get an easy trials run. As well as the fact that you bring in 2 players with you. You can't matchmake for a team. The time to find a match would be too long. Carrying people through trials would then help whoever is doing the carrying more by giving them easy matches. This is a horible idea

Git gud scrub

2 RepliesEdited by a fat white cat: 7/1/2015 9:13:54 PMThe thing I don't get is why is guns from the Mercury chest elemental when you have to go through a pvp system (and be damn good at it) to get the elemental version Also I would like to see skill based matchmaking. It is so much more fun to play against people who are equal to you in trials instead of wreaking the other teamed or getting steam rolled. Of course some people just want to win so they will want boring games. And it has gotten so boring to have to use thorn or the last word in most matches

Try hard PvPers don't actually want an equal challenge, they want to stomp more casual players. If they had skill based matchups and it made it so many couldn't just coast to 9-0, the tears would flow. I don't see this happening any time soon unfortunately.
-
My only problem with ToO is that I can't go 9-0 because I don't have any skilled friends that still play Destiny.
-
Trials... For the hardcore guardians in the crucible. Marketed for the best of the best to battle it out. It is not their fault that people who don't belong there over saturate the playlist. The lighthouse is meant for flawless victors. People can get carried there, and the boons make it too easy to get there. 7-1 = lighthouse. If you can't do that, then don't play. Everyone gets packages from Vance anyways. There are you etheric light and trials gear.

2 RepliesGotta love those idiots who assume k/d is the only metric to go by. I have a crap kdr but I have no trouble going 9-0 week after week- its called teamwork and communication.
-
Edited by TheWonderbrah: 7/1/2015 11:31:08 PMEven a decent or average PvP player can get 5-8 wins on a card. If you want flawless, you're supposed to be a good player. Edit: also most people who think they are average players, have a KD around 0.3 to 0.6 That's not average, it's bad.

The crucible is no place for mercy.

4 RepliesThis is the main reason I STOPPED playing call of duty. MW2 was fun because there was little skill based matchmaking and I would rarely get matched up against very good players. This was fun being able to relax and verse worse players by trying out new weapons and not having to try so hard to do decent. Now, the higher your stats are in the newer games, the more likely you are to be matched against players of your skill making you have to go try hard to do decent every game. This is ridiculous and needs to stop. The main matchmaking variable should be connection with skill having no part in the formula. Take your entitled thoughts back to call of duty and accept that you won't reach the lighthouse often. Practice and get better
-
4 RepliesI actually agree with IGN and what they have said. Skill based up to flawless then once you go flawless you are locked out of regular trials and enter a "flawless only" version of trials.
-
Shut up Meg!!
-
Gothalion is a thorn blink shotgunner who gets carried by the same two guys every week. His opinion is piss

1 ReplyThe "middle ground" would be a Starcraft-style tier system. Say the reward packages were based on Stone, Bronze, Silver and Gold tiers of players and you get matched with others in your tier. You move up by completing a 9 win passage. There would have to be a lot of refinement to the reward system but it would serve to ease frustration among mid-level players who are finding it really difficult to avoid getting wasted passage after passage.

1 ReplyTrials isn't supposed to be fair.
-
13 RepliesBungie said it themselves, trials isn't for everyone, PVEers get raids, strikes and prison of elders to show how good they are in PVE, PVPers get trials and iron banner and those are timed events. Leave the system the way it is. If your not good in PVP too bad, trials isn't for everyone, same goes for raids as well
-
4 RepliesTrials Is for the best in pvp, not the losers who can beat other losers.
-
Gothalion is a turd in glasses.
End Post.
-
2 RepliesIt's called competition. Either face it or don't.
-
10 RepliesEdited by ExiledTzar: 7/1/2015 9:25:29 PMWhat is the reason to punish players that love crucible? Im happy that Destiny have at least one activity that cant be cheesed by self claimed "pve-players". ps. I checkout your stats - you dont play PvP at all. Why you want to fix the mode you dont play and dont interested in?
-
2 RepliesLet those who go 9-0 after going to the watchtower play in a seperatr playlist going against other 9-0 teams butmonly have to go 5-0 to get a chance at the fate of all fools or the other exotic scout. Just how i look at it if you take the top players and put them uo against eachother it would be a huge bloodbath and it would take forever to matchmake for example challenger league(highest elo) in league of legends takes forever to find a match. That could pose a problem
-
5 RepliesPeople need to realise that even less people would get to lighthouse if it was matched based on skill. Almost everyone would win around 50% of the games. There needs to be some unfairness to make it possible.
-
Right now ToO is exactly how Bungie wants it: only the top 1% will get to Mercury. Good for those people. I don't hold it against them, but that is what Bungie wants.
