READ EDIT 3 PLEASE! It's the most updated form of my proposal, I've been reading everyone's responses and taking into consideration what people are saying and have tried coming up with acceptable alternatives. I also spoiler(ed) the first edit, so that you can see it if you wish, but I realize exactly how stupid the edit is, also it's to make people who posted about it not seem insane. The video that I have linked is the one from Gothalion that talks about changes that he would like to see in ToO. I am inclined to agree, mainly because I find it completely unfair for someone like myself, who is DECENT, not bad, not great, just decent at PvP and more inclined towards the IB type gameplay, to have to face people who are almost all PvP exclusive players. Those who basically play the game for the PvP completely outmatch people like myself and it's extremely frustrating as I have no chance to get the Mercury chest unless I find a pair of people who are so good that it doesn't really matter what I do, as long as I can stay alive long enough to get a few shots in. Now call me a whiner if you want, I don't really care. But I feel that it is unfair to those who aren't very good at this type of gameplay or aren't as good as those who play PvP and are highly skilled, as they have little to no chance of success. In addition those who are skilled aren't getting as much challenge as they could be getting. Say a team can typically go 9-0 repeatedly without much effort, and same with a few other teams, why pit them against those who barely scrape out wins, and might go 9-0 once throughout the entire experience in a week? Why not pit them against each other and give them the challenge that they deserve?
Edit: I just think right now Trials is super tilted towards the best PvP players with little to no chance of those who don't play PvP as our main activity, now this is supposed to give the hardcore pvp players a challenge, I will concede that concept. However, some of the best non-exotic weapons are only obtainable via Trials, which means that those who aren't the best are basically gated out of having them.
Edit 2: Also take into consideration that the best PvE weapons can be found in the lighthouse as they have some of the best stat rolls on guns and burns to boot, something that isn't necessary in PvP but is damn useful in PvE. So as it is, PvE players are getting punished for not playing PvP as much and being able to go 9-0 against rather unfair odds. Edit 3: Thanks to those of you pointing out that I suck at PvP... I wasn't talking about K/D anyway, as I mostly play control and have been getting better K/D in large match based games when I play them.... that aside I wanted to add this: If there was an equivalent gear set from PoE that was suited for PvE and had good stats, rolls and burns, then there wouldn't even be an issue, it's the fact that adept weapons in the lighthouse are so good in PvE and there's nothing for PvE players of the same caliber from PoE right now. Continuing with the edit, 'git gud' or any variation of that phrase isn't helpful, here's the thing, I'm not complaining because I want trials to be easier or harder for one set of people or another. I want it so that people who have gone flawless are more likely to fight other flawless teams. Say an "Ascended" buff that acts like a NF buff, and outside of PvP you glow a little, like a god almost. When you go back to play again that week, you play other Ascended players, or at least players with high score cards if there are none available on your connection level. Give those who go flawless on "Ascended" buff get another chest with higher chance for even better gear, maybe even make it have a guaranteed exotic drop or something. That way everyone who's good gets their chest, and everyone who is better than that gets a second one. It would reset each week.

  • Destiny finally comes out with a competitive game type and all you people cry because better Pvp players crush you casuals! This was the entire purpose of the game type to reward the top players and weed out the trash. You can easily go flawless if you play with a team you know how to move together have a game plan a majority of games are won by the team that communicates and stays together.

  • No trials shouldn't have skill based matchmaking. From what I've heard you would just be able to lose matches ditch the card than play worse players. Trials isn't for everyone idk why people think it is. Its a more competitive pvp mode intended for those that are pretty decent in pvp. Its not like iron banner where most people just run around with a shotgun. If you really think trials is hard maybe you should stay away from it and practice in regular pvp.

    • Once you've been to the lighthouse, catch you next week you bunch of lag switching -blam!-s! Fair play to the guys that reach it who aren't cheating, but to those who are, do you really take pride in getting there through those means? Hope the ban hammer catches up with you #permanentbanthemall

    • Easy solution: take adept primaries out of the lighthouse. Hardcore pvp players usually don't even use them.

      • I think the biggest hurdle is getting a good group together. By that I don't mean excellent PvP players but people who are decent, you get on well with and play in a similar style. If you can get a that and you play smart you seem to be able to do well. The only change at the moment that I think might make some kind of sense is to create two brackets. One for whose who have gone 9-0 and those who haven't. That way it might mean that more people would go to mercury at least once.

      • Pve players are fine when elemental primaries only drop in pve events like raids, but as soon as they drop in pvp too they cry they're too hard to get

It's fine as it is, any more criteria involved in matchmaking will just make the connection even worse than now. All they need is a side swap after every round and it would be fine.

          • How about a trials where once you go flawless, you go to Tier 2 where all flawless people fight each other? I think if there was a Tier 3 in this scenario, only the strongest in the world would fight each other lol

            • Not sure on this one. Yes I do think that people that have already been to the lighthouse (that week) should come up against others that have also been if they continue to play trials with that character. Do I then want an easy passage to the lighthouse? No! I would like to know I got there beating people with the same skill or better than me. So I'll agree and disagree. Lol

            • I do agree with constantly changing spawn locations per round, but for the sake of some fairness to skill, exotics should be banned (including armor). That way, when stripped of any unique advantage, a player's skill will shine brighter.

That and maybe ban on exotics. The ascended thing seems like it'd be good, especially for people like me who constantly go 8/9 and 1. I love trials how it is though.

Ban exotics it will make the gun fights more interesting without having to deal without being burned by thorn. Also about the whole connection thing I think if a person drops out the game should just end as a stalemate and nobody gets a loss. I really think you should be matched up with moderate connections though

                  • Im going to disagree with that proposal. For the longest time pvp players were FORCED to do raids for the best gear in the game. All PVE players laughed and retorted with "get good scrub" or "haha who cares about pvp" I saw the threads, read them, saw you pve players talk so much crap about how "they needed to adapt and play raids" So bungie gave them their "end game activity" Now you guys want to be at the lighthouse too? No... I am a primarily pve player, I only started pvp two weeks ago. Trials should stay the same, and now I say to all of you entitled brats what I saw so many of you say to them when they had to the raid. Get gud scrubs. You may say its not fair, but it doesnt neex to be. You either adapt or dont. I really hope that bungie doesnt listen to any of you. Let the pvp guys have their stuff.

                    • You're missing the point that Trials of Osiris is supposed to be a competition. They don't want everyone to be able to make the Lighthouse. I may want to make the NHL more than anything, but if I'm not good enough or don't put in the hundreds of hours into training like the rest of the players that play in it, I can't realistically expect to make it. A lot of the players that are top 5% in Trials of Osiris have played other FPS games for hundreds of hours before picking up Destiny. They've committed themselves to being good, and they are. That's why they make Flawless over and over again, while the decent, average and poor players don't. Trials is a competition at the end of the day. If everyone were able to make Flawless, it means it's not hard enough. Just keep practicing and you'll get better

                      • I always wonder how many of the "skilled" players that don't want skill based matchmaking actually play sports. There are always different divisions usually A thru D and sometimes a I (beginner) league specifically because there is no competition or sportsmanship involved with A league players matched up against D league players (much less I).. .how is that sport? To see one skilled team completely dominating and the other teams futile attempts to do anything resembling sport. I know why less skilled pvp players don't want to be matched up with good 'A' leaguers, but why would 'A' leaguer' want to play with 'D' leaguers. If you listen to them trying to justify it, it is embarrassing. They claim to have skill, but don't really want to play out of their comfort zone. Whatever, I guess that is what separates the rec leaguers from mlg.

                          • I agree with every point Gothalion made. Especially the side swaps. It's completely unfair for one team to have what is considered the best spawn for the entire game. So far the only maps I've played that don't cater to one spawn to the other are Black Shield and Pantheon due to them being symmetrical and Burning Shrine.

                            • TBH, I can see the allure of it being a super elite, brutal PvP mode, to satisfy the guys who're really good at it. It frustrates me that I'm not good enough to get my hands on the loot, but that doesn't mean they should water down the game mode. They definitely need to fix the exploits, and get a handle on the LSers, though.

                              • Skill based matchmaking ruins connection quality. Goth says, connection quality is bad anyways in trials, but the truth id Goth has bad connections during trials because he plays with Europeans.

Seriously. Are you actually serious. Is this how far we've gone as a species? Is this what it's all led up to? People complaining that they aren't skilled, so instead of practicing and getting better, they complain? "How did you give bob that proposition but not me! I mean, I know bob went to college longer, he has his masters and I only have a bachelors, but I should still have it!" "It's not fair!" *stomps foot* You're all such crybabies. This is not what we should be focused on as a community. "Make it easier" "Nerf his gun, buff mine" "Give me A" "Give me B" "I deserve C" "I earned D" Instead; "I suggest __, because __" Trials was meant to be for the best of the best. The 1%. It was actually nerfed. Before its release, passage coins were the way to get into a special event. To get a coin, you had to do something like win 5 games at the top of your team. That would be interesting. Like an actual high stakes tournament. And you people complain and complain about this and that and the other because only better players can do it. This generation of handouts and participation awards has gone too far.
