-blam!- Bungie's greed.

3467

So Luke Smith (Lead designer) basically said that Bungie know's it's screwing over the fans/current players and that they're perfectly fine with doing so. (Original article: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2015-06-22-destiny-the-taken-king-director-defends-40-expansion-price-tag Does that change your mind about buying TTK? Comment below. 38% of players are pre-ordering digital content (admittedly, I don't know why you'd pre-order unlimited digital content) 31% of players are waiting for reviews so they don't get screwed over again. 31% of players are done with Destiny. I felt compelled to point out that games like Skyrim give you easily ten times the content for a $30 expansion, $10 less than the base TTK price. DeeJ: Simple question for you; come September 15th 2015 are you reducing Destiny's DLC on XBL/PSN to the $5-$10 range and the base Destiny game down to $10? If not you are forcing some day one players to buy TDB and/or HoW for $20-$35/$40 and then charging them $40 additionally for TTK. This is my major issue. It's price gouging. I'd appreciate it if you or someone at Bungie would settle this issue. Either set TTK to $20 or reduce the price of the pre-existing DLC. Additional info in! Someone has unearthed E3 video footage from 2013 when Destiny was first revealed. (https://youtu.be/uHhR3kkf1uQ) Watch it yet? If not you really should since it shows the 3 "new" emotes (clap was confirmed in Luke Smith interview). E3 2013 people! This was even more content ripped out of vanilla Destiny to be sold off as DLC but this time it's behind a $40 premium edition paywall. Disclaimer: Any money thrown at the screen will be donated to starving children in a third world nation. Additional info per weekly update: Bungie is selling the digital goods from the collector's edition for $20 USD. That's the same price increase for the disc version of vanilla to Collector's Edition but doesn't come with the physical items (worth much more than some token emotes, shaders, and class items) that new players get for the same price increase. Thoughts?

        • Luke Smith may have come across like a condescending jerk during the interview, but my opinion on the matter is he did nothing different then bungie has already done. Hear me out for s second. Bungie has never been one to be very transparent with more then what their willing to discuss. The discussion to be taken place that day was about the pricing model of the 3 options for the taken king; nothing more. I do feel Smith personally saw no problem with charging people to repurchase content. However, he's a dev. He's not hired to handle the pr side of things. This was an interview deej should have handled or at least been there to answer the questions smith wasn't prepared to answer. Smith's reaction I feel was more out of annoyance to the same question in the interview rather then out of straight ignorance. However, it's still inexcusable to act this way especially toward the players who have kept this game going and forked out the majority of profits which made this game so successful. Either way you slice it launch day players have paid the most money. Did we all know a year in destiny would sell all the dlc and the game for a reduced price? Most of us sure did and I saw numerous articles about it, however catering to these players should have been a priority.

          • I'm not sure any more to be honest. After E3, I was leaning towards buying the expansion, after having read that EG interview it left a bad impression on me. There are simply too many good games coming out soon to actually want be a customer of a company that has that level of disregard and disrespect towards its fans. I would rather invest my time and money on games like Fallout 4, Halo 5, Dishonored etc...

            • You American players are LUCKY that you ONLY have to pay $40 for this. We Brits need to Shell out £40 (~$60) for the joy. I love Destiny. I will probably pay the price. But I will do so with disdain.
I still love you Bungie ;)
• I won't buy TTK. I'm having too much fun playing Batman Arkham Knight, Devil May Cry 4 and The Witcher 3. I'm done with this game. And there are a lot of games to play this year: Just Cause 3, Star Wars Battlefront, Gears of War, Mighty09, Tomb Raider, Halo 5, Mad Max, etc...

                    • People are still going to buy it , whether it's over priced or not , the fact they've spent nearly a year playing, Grinding, Raiding etc they don't want all that time investment being for nothing, I'm just don't think it's worth it for me personally yes I've enjoyed Destiny met some cool players to raid with but none of my friends even hardly play Destiny now plus Paying 40 pounds a month and half before Halo, Battlefront drops is a waste of money IMO for a months play time , as I won't be on Destiny once them games drop , but that's just me

                      • I will be buying it, but I do think that the expansion should be $30 (others were $20 and this one is bigger, but not quite $40). And there should be a collector's edition for the expansion itself as well. $40 for digital version with elites and whatnot, and $50 for physical version with the coin and stickers and whatnot. I think this would be fair. Oh, and the legendary edition should be $80 so it isn't so much of a slap in the face for those who just need the ttk. $20 extra for the base game and 2 expansions is way too good of a deal...

                      • Once all of the hot fall games come out chances are I'll be done with destiny for good since any of them offer tons more content than destiny and their devs actually listen to the fan base.

                        • No but it's less to do with that guys comments and more about me just about me knowing that they aren't going to add the things i want like matchmaking or get rid of the rng or balance all the pvp weapons, or make maps that aren't cluttered and overly catering to shotguns. Plus i bought HOW and though a positive it's too hardcore for me. POE and Trials i don't really enjoy. I'm good at crucible but only just ok at trials. I don't think i've gotten a single elemental primary yet. Regardless, i'm playing less. And there's some other games on the horizon that look interesting. I'll keep an open mind. But at this point i'm meh on the whole thing.

                              • Screw this noise. I can empathize with everyone just fine. But to be a gamer in 2015 and have the balls to complain about money and pricing...Just insanity and utter ignorance. Gaming is inherently one of the most expensive, time wasting, ongoing obsessive/addictive hobbies in the world. And every one of you is going to buy The Taken King 100% guaranteed anyway. Simple business practice with the exclusive items...Been this way forever. With Halo 4, it was the FOTUS armor with the special console edition of the game (one example). No one wanted to buy a console they already had for a skin, but people definitely did. They're selling the standalone TTK dlc to the players, so we're not getting cheated. And legacy games in a series or string of dlc almost always go down in price after a year or less depending on sales...Older content for example. Would be more convenient for them to sell the extras with TTK, sure. But if no one here can afford an $80 purchase, then maybe you need to take up a new hobby? And here's where things get as practical as they can...Buy the standalone bare bones version of TTK, then buy the Collector's Edition, getting the dlc extras, then resell the duplicate software and dlc content from the Collector's Edition and make some money back. You'll still end up spending well over $40, but you'll get what you want for less than $120 if you resell. They aren't providing many options, but this common, yet tempting business practice is your bottom line option: TTK digital download, Legendary Edition collection, digital collectors edition, and the physical collectors edition . It sucks for many of us on one hand, but let's not act so wronged here. This isn't the first time something like this has happened to gamers by a long shot. Certainly won't be the last. Entertainment costs lots of money. And you're all not likely to give up your addictions any more than I am. Here are your best options: 1.) buy the standalone version of TTK and the Collector's Edition, then resell the duplicate software and content to make a little money back 2.) buy the standalone version of TTK and let that be enough 3.) give up entirely on your gaming addiction, this game, save money, and move on...
bet no one chooses this
