Well it seems you solved the problem, but if it happens again, go to the top of the Undead Parish after you kill the Gargoyles, and talk to the priest there and ask for forgiveness. Then any NPC you pissed of will forget about it.

Yeah -blam!- those gargoyles. I could only get it to half health before he called his buddy to come double team me. Currently grinding levels so I'll be overpowered and can kick their asses.
