Why did Halo loyalists hate Reach?

It was Bungie's last gift to the online matchmaking world. I adored it, along with Halo 2 and 3... The only reason I ask is because the Crucible is brutal enough to make me go back to it, just to get that rush again. **edit** I thoroughly enjoyed the game. I thought it was a fitting way to bow out of the Halo saga. A prequel is hard to pull off, and at the end of the campaign when you're just fighting off certain death... that was sick. A far cry from Master Chief saving the day yet again. The matchmaking was as good as any other also. It EVOLVED. Yeah bloom sucked a little and armor lock drove you insane, but adding sprint was huge. To be able to spawn and sprint to the area of the map you just died in and put one bullet in the guy you just lost an epic battle with was totally satisfying. I guess I'm saying I don't understand why Reach never gets the credit it deserves. And I don't understand why the Crucible seems like it was made by a different group of people entirely.

  • Multiplayer I'm not sure about because I didn't really play it, but for the campaign I loved it as much as any other Halo. Halo 4 still holds my most hated moment with that bull quick time event ending, really hoping 343 don't pull that on us again

    Uninteresting human and military focus. Drab colour pallet. Complete lack of consistent plot thread through Campaign. Mostly boring and cliché characters. Underwhelming player traits (slow movement and low jump height). Some of the music was meh. Bloom. Mostly shitty MP maps. Voting in matchmaking. Paper-mâché vehicles. Unbalanced weapon sandbox. No enormous, flat exterior in Forge World. Atrocious driving AI. That's it for now.

    >Reticle Bloom >Armor Abilities >All maps basically built around Campaign I didn't hate Reach, but it was my least favorite out of all of them. Sprint was a nice addition, and I hardly considered that an armor ability, so that wasn't an issue for me.

    • I only disliked that it shat on the continuity and movement felt a little too slow. Also Carter and Kat weren't built up enough for me to care about their deaths really. And I only mourned Jorge because he was a Spartan II. Other than that I enjoyed online because I was always playing with friends. Sxceptbfor coop campaign. That shit never worked.

    • As much as people might have hated reach... The dmr bloom, the lack luster maps, the story.... I would still feel more Satisfied winning a PVP match in reach than in the crucible I still have sword camping, sword base nightmares. Grenades away!

        • Because it was awful, shat on canon, had no emotional value in the story, and was boring and easymode in terms of multiplayer.

        • Halo reach wasn't a bad game. Just not a good halo game. And primarily because of the armor abilities. It put 343i in a situation where they had to continue using them to please to new coming halo players. Which 343i, I believe, has corrected this situation by making the abilities movement based not offensive or defensive. There are many things wrong with reach, such as the story, but what did it more me was the armor abilities.

          The story was a big chunk of it for me. Went completely against The Fall Of Reach, which is commonly accepted as the canon.

        • I only go back to that game when I get a sudden urge to grind cR to inch my way to inheritor in grifball. I'm a Reclaimer. Bout 60% the way thru. Or I go on when I wanna relax and do some custom Assassination Tower games.

            • If I remember correctly, Armor Lock, bloom, slow movement speed, maps based on campaign, grenades getting nerfed after beta, no option to choose default Elite as your model all the time, campaign being pretty garbage outside of getting to see your custom armor look killer in cutscenes which is a feature more games should have, no dual wielding...

                  • Easy. Its was the matchmaking, lack of a ranked system, the arena wasn't that competitive/no one wanted to play it, armor abilites, too much change at the time in terms of gameplay, additionally the lack of support (remember Bungie transitioned Halo to 343i). Game was still amazing for a Halo game, and Invasion in particular is the best newest Halo gametype to date.
