Controller Sensitivity

Oi lads, Was browsing the Destiny subreddit and stumbled across a light conversation on sensitivity for Destiny and wanted to get all of the GoD communities' opinions. My preferences have bounced around a bit here. Historically, games like CoD and more recently, Titanfall, had me using higher sensitivities, 2-5 ticks over default depending on how long I'd played them. But for Halo, I found myself staying a bit lower, which I would argue makes sense given you need to have more sustained accuracy (higher health) and less spin/turn/twitch speed. Although, since the hit-boxes are quite large in Destiny, you could also argue for a higher sensitivity being more beneficial, common with other shooters. I myself found preference in the 2-5 range (default is 3) for Destiny, but it's also because I'm a mid-to-long range player. So what will each of you be using in Destiny? But more importantly, why? And if anyone has seen any "pro" opinions or links on this topic, please share as well.

I hate having to wait, even a few seconds, to turn so I have always gravitated to about 75% of the available speed for stick sensitivity. Destiny controls seemed more touchy than other shooters I am currently playing, so I dropped it down to a 6. That is just about right. Now, if I could only get rid of the 'push right stick' melee and put it on the right bumper with my Jumper configuration, I would be right at home!

  • Lower sensitivity = better snipe control

  • Most FPS games: low (2~5) CoD: Med-High (5~10)

  • I'm a mid-long range player as well, and 2 felt good to me. Also an inverted Y player. I wonder if there's any correlation between sensitivity and inverted look... Damnit! See what happens when you still have ~1 month left before the game drops? You start coming up with random correlations that don't mean anything!! _Ohuigin

High sensitivity = better awareness and reaction time (for me that is). That's how I always play on almost all FPS games xD Ever since Halo 2 era, been playing it on insane sensitivity and so on. On BF4 it improved even more cuz I had a 5v1 and I ended up being the lucky winner thanks to my crazy sensitivity settings. During the beta i switch between 8 or 10, just to get used to it. But it just reminds me of how slow the max sensitivity in Halo games even when I do play maxed out on the Destiny Beta XD

  • For me it's all about control. I want to feel completely free in my movement as I walk, run and jump. My sensitivity changes as I get better at controlling my character. I start out at a point where I feel like I'm moving around way too slow, them go up from there. Only going up to the next speed once I master that movement speed. If having complete control of your character is the point of having, "control", then I'm going to make sure I can control that character at the highest sensitivity speed possible.

U will be getting opinions here from everyone in the big forums here since it was tagged #Destiny. #almostpro I played on 10 sensitivity. I do use a Kontrol Freak extender on my right stick, which in theory slows it down for more precision. I rarely felt that it was to high or gave me trouble hitting crit shots. I am used to 20 sensitivity on CoD which feels crazy over sensitive to go back to after #Destiny. I still need to test if the aim assist slows down the same as CoD. It seemed like it did not, but I need more time on Destiny. Also I need to figure out what bumper jumper is from Halo and if it helps in Destiny. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

    • So this is my personal preference; Xbox one: I dropped from 6 to 5 I'm a mid to long range players and found with the sensitivity up too high I was twitching myself out of head shots (I have shaky hands! Ps4: I found I neeed it at 6 but I think it's I'm not as familiar with the controller. Overall I found that I could get the movement on the sticks way out of synch with the player speed and this was disorienting for me (again personal preference)

    • I personally play with my look sensitivity on 1...

    • Being mostly a Halo player (I kept mine at 7 on most Halo games), I found Destiny's sensitivity to be far more twitchy. Despite the normal sensitivity of 3 still being pretty sluggish, the jump up to a mere 6 was pretty surprising given what a radical difference the look speed was. I played around with it a bit and settled on 5 as being the most comfortable.

    • I had to play the game at 8 sensitivity during the beta because anything less felt extremely clumsy and sluggish. If it keeps the same sensitivity through to the retail version of the game, I'll most likely bump it up to 10. Perhaps it just feels unresponsive to me because I'm used to using an 8200 DPI mouse.

      • 3 because that's default. I've never really worried about sensitivity but after doing ok in Titanfall then getting absolutely destroyed in Destiny I think it's one of the things I'll start looking at.

3, I feel its good because this game is less twitchy and being more accurate at range is a huge bonus. But it all comes down to preference, ive seen very good players use both high and low sensitivity.

      • I was at 10 and felt like I couldn't react as fast as I would like to have (spinning around too slow to counter an attack). However I changed how I played a bit and improved some. I think I'll end up playing maxed out but it'll take awhile to get used to it.

      • I would recommend in between 8 and 10 with 9 being the go-to for me and my buddies so I'd assume it would be for many others aswell

      • I'm on 5, but many people mistake the sensitivity and 30fps vs 60

        • I found myself sticking to a sensitivity of 5 in the beta because I feel that the default of 3 is way too slow for me. I'm a close to mid range kinda guy but I like to have the ability to turn around relatively quick and blast an enemy with a shotgun.
