Should American police officers carry assault rifles?
Given the increased threat level from high power near military grade weaponry falling into the hands of criminals, should police be armed and armored better?

Yeah , no. Keep the automatic weaponry to the SWAT teams where it belongs. Last thing we need is some carp-tier cop to spray and praying all over the place.

dude, they already do. if it's not a "procure your own equipment thing" as various by department and states, then they may have a few legit M16A1s or A2s in the armory.

I don't think they'd carry them 24/7 but, but in special cases, I don't see why not.

No, they can't holster a rifle. They'd be even more trigger happy lol. They're not soldiers, they're not even SWAT. They'd ALL have to undergo military style training to be regularly toting an assault rifle. I got pulled over for speeding once and the cop had his hand on his gun the moment he read my name lol.
