I think it's a lame attempt to appear like you're "above the fray" of politics. Democrats and Republicans are still Americans, and nobody has taken away your country. Politicians are promoting the views they were elected - by Americans - to promote. Mitch McConnell is doing exactly what he said he would do. Harry Reid is doing exactly what he said he would do. Boehner and Pelosi and Obama and Cruz are all promoting the views on which they based their political platforms. You call it "party politics", but you are really just attributing to malice what can be explained by ignorance. Democrats and Republicans are not engaged in war because of some shady back-room conspiracy or special interest, they are doing it because they sincerely believe that they have the right answer and the other side has the wrong one. And that if the other side creates policy based on their wrong views, the country, which you claim to have been taken from you, will suffer; they care about America, as Americans, far more than you do. Example: they are engaged in public service, while your friend is posting pictures on Facebook. I say this because these "above the fray" independents are focusing their energy on the wrong thing entirely. They think that being uncompromising and radical and biased are all bad things, but they aren't at all. The truth is biased against falsehood; reality is biased against fiction. And in trying to claim that everyone should just get together and compromise between right and wrong, you're creating this politically-correct version of reality where everyone is equally right, where each view is equally valid. This obviously isn't correct and yet it's what Americans think the word "objective" means. We should demand that politicians be radically in favor of the right things, not dispassionate about everything. But now we've gone and decided that debate is bad and any action is preferable to the right course of action.

I'm Independent. Everyone who labels themselves as Republican or Democrat are both equally stupid.
-
1 ReplyI think anyone who identifies themselves as anything political is a bit of a tard. It is highly unlikely that whatever group you're claiming to be is fully representing your beliefs. Just vote for whatever candidate you think is best, not which one is part of your imagined tribe.
-
1 ReplyIt's incredibly stupid because it implies that being either a Democrat or a Republican is mutually exclusive with being American, which is clearly false.
-
I'm a centrist and -blam!- everyone.
-
Well, if someones running the country who's not a democrat, or a republican, but just an American... ...then expect a Nuclear war with Russia, Big Macs are the national dish, and the right to a little scooter thing, if your too fat and lazy to walk.
-
It looks like a bumper sticker that someone who has no knowledge of any political issue would use.
-
I'm a libertarian that votes for the candidate who I feel reflects my beliefs the best, where does that leave me?
-
Inhabitant of Earth.

I think the person might be trying to say that they are a progressive.

5 Replies"I want my country back"? From whom?
-
It's pretentious, stupid, cowardly, and a lie. That's what I think about it.
-
I'm British.

I don't self identify with either ideology. I don't see how anyone can commit 100% to one way of thinking. It makes me think they're just followers.

4 RepliesYes, I'm an American. No, I'm not proud to say it. I'm a liberal, not a Republican and not necessarily a Democrat. If there was someone in a third party that I see as more qualified than either of the two major parties. Then I'd vote for the candidate of that party. That being said, I wouldn't be saying this if I lived in a swing state like Florida.

10 RepliesIt's implying you can't have two titles at the same time. Can a person not be a friend and a brother at the same time? Can a person not be a father and a son at the same time?
-
Counter: "-blam!- you; it was never your country anyway, pleb."
-
meaning you dont have to be a member of a political party to know your country is going in the wrong direction
-
2 RepliesI'm a Republicrat. Where is your god now?

Well, I'm from Europe, so I don't really get it. Get your country back from who? What's the context?

I'm a Greek, and I wanna get the fuck out of America. :S
