Why Aren't More Gamers Completing Raids????

I play Destiny 2 on Xbox and was looking at my Achievements the other night, mainly the ones I don't have yet. Here's some info for you: Belly of the Beast - Complete the Leviathan Raid. 12.86 percent of gamers have achieved this. The Prestige - Complete the Leviathan Raid on Prestige difficulty. 5.29 percent of gamers have achieved this. Wishing for the Best - Complete the "Last Wish" Raid. 3.87 percent of gamers have achieved this. Granted this info relates to Xbox only, but damn, look at the number of gamers that have completed the raids! Now we hear Bungie is making the raids "more" challenging. I'd imagine the percentage of gamers that complete the next rounds of raids to be even lower. I see questions in the forum all the time about "who" Bungie makes the raids for, I mean, it's pretty obvious with all the manufactured hype over "Worlds First" placed on newly launched raids. There's a post on the front page where OP suggests the raids need to have more mechanics in them, suggesting there were more mechanics in D1 than D2 raids. It looks like to me that adding "more" mechanics into a raid only lessens the potential for the core group of players to actually finish it. I'd venture a guess that most players don't have a ready group of above-average players to complete a raid with. I understand that the Raid is supposed to be mainly for the skilled end-game player, but damn. I assume Bungie puts a lot of time into development of the raids, only to have a sliver of the player base actually experience them. Bungie seems to have lost focus on which group of gamers make up the "majority" of their player base, and that's sad.

  • Lack of incentive for me. Raids should be the only path to max light, have elemental primaries in the loot pool and good loot in general.

    • No in game group making really doesn't help. I can sit in the tower all day and try to talk to people but they have their own things to do. A sudden raid with high chance of failure isn't likely on their menu. Bungie keeps ignoring this because they think people care about their website, and I do not. If the game can't accomplish something on its own then its value gets closer to dirt.

    • My friends all quit and I'm not comfortable playing with randoms I'm required to talk to. On top of that, I prefer to go into content blind and will not watch videos beforehand, which I know not many people like so I don't wanna be a bother to others.

      • For me and my friends, because d2 raids are boring, and mechanics are not fun. We used to raid almost every week on all 3 characters and now... we never entered in the last raid... we are old and play for habit but d2 is not that fun

        • Simple answer This community is lazy and bad "I don't wanna do this raid because it looks hard" and then they complain on the forums that raids need to be accessible. Also, as of recently, they aren't necessary for max power and the rewards are really bad.

Using this method to check completion percentage is flawed. You should do the players that completed each raid, over players that completed the respective campaigns. It rounds up to about 20% of the community. As for why many people don't even attempt raids, most of them don't want/care, want to be carried through and not help their team, are just scared to even try. Aside from this, raid loot is also lackluster Then, for difficulty. Most raids are not challenging, they are easy once you learn the mechanics and how the encounters work. Mechanics relying on the whole team would make them more engaging (think riven legit, or Aksis, or most encounters in Kings fall). There shouldn't be a role for add clear, everyone should help on that front.

        • To put simply there isn't much incentive to do them. There are weapon in other activities that are worthwhile to get and are much easier to get. Raid armor isn't fancy so no point in getting that either. Most of the LFG raid posts are toxic and demoralizing (advising people to watch a YouTube video does not help psychologically speaking).

        • Not much reason too. Never really was. Armour sucks. Weapons aren’t exactly bettter then non raid options. Plenty of people have no circle of friends to play with anymore.

        • No incentive. Guns are poor, armours ok but not amazing and you can do full runs n get 0 armour. Also far more communication heavy. In D1 I could run raids efficiently n maybe 3 of the 6 had mics, often less. In D2, no mic, you're a burden. All in all, far more trouble than its worth

          • High commitment for low reward. Gotta go to an external website or discord to find a group, wait for group to form, get it rolling, etc. It's a time and patience consuming task. And running the raid gives you some random set of gear and weapons nobody cares about because the gear in this game is mostly irrelevant. I already have a really good set of armor with enhanced perks, so why do I need to run the raid?

          • Raid participation has always been low as a whole. In D2 there is still very little incentive to run raids.

          • Simple answer. The raids are no longer all that fun and the gear is no longer all that great. People who ran 100-200’s of each are now happy to run 10-30 and be done with it.

            • People don’t know the mechanics of each encounter, and sometimes people don’t have the time for personal reasons.

            • I have done raids with randoms. Not doing anymore (there are better options in life and gaming than taking a risk to raid with randoms). I have done and will do raids with clan mates. That can be super fun, but even in clans not everyones chemistry/personalities goes together, or playtimes, nerves etc. Best option to raid would be with real friends. But how many of us have 5 friends to raid with? None of my friends play D2 anymore. Raids are not particularly difficult IMO, but for majority I believe they are. When you play simple looter shooter one (majority) don’t simply easily want to learn symbols and stuff what raids have. And it takes a lot of time which majority don’t have in comparison to run few strikes and more casual content. Raid mechanics are also punishing, which creates its own issues. There are lot of things which simply don’t make them compelling. Rewards and RNG sucks too. I think Bungie should not waste time on raids at all. They should focus on more casual content, dungeon like stuff and missions like whisper to get people back and keep casuals in. Coding and doimg graphics and design for raids cost a lot to Bungie and when people won’t play it, that money and time should have been spent on something better for ROI.

              • IMO, the main problem (on console) is the lackluster in-game social system and the nonexistent in-game LFG system. Console MMOs or in Destiny’s case, MMO-lites, are simply unknown properties to the majority of potential consumers. The majority don’t visit the forums, Reddit, social media, streaming sites or YouTube and telling them they should use a website or download and use an app; is asking a lot. Of course, mechanics, bugs, glitches, and loot also play a huge part. But when Bungie doesn’t have the infrastructure to effectively bring players together no disseminate information; that only worsens the issues with the actual content. Having said all that, I don’t even think Bungo cares about raids beyond the raid race anyways and making sure its high in the Twitch directory.

                • I guess im still in catchup mode from playing on release and quitting as osiris dropped and just now picking it up like a month ago. Ive been just doing all the quests, forges, and EP for the most part. Havent touched blind well yet, did my first menagerie today(pretty blind as well so it was kinda a shitshow) so i havent cared to raid yet much either. Plus at this point in the game, i doubt many teams out there right now are open to take the time to teach a raid to a newbie. I remember the “you need a challenge mode emblem to raid with us or no gally no raid” days of destiny 1.

                • Because after the first week of a raid dropping lfg people expect 3+ clears. While that wasn’t an issue for me, I can see how all the have x amounts clear posts can be intimidating for those who have never done it, I’ve never done EoW or finished spire before because I skipped year 1 and no one wants to teach them. The raid population will likely drop some more with the auto reloading abilities being nerfed hard, which means I actually have to do flawless crown soon cause most people fall apart after first dps phase if they don’t get the kill

I can't speak for everyone else, but there are two reasons I don't do the raids: 1. LFGs suck In my experience the LFGs are like a step backwards for solo players trying to find groups. Most posts are "Must have 50+ completions" or "Must have X weapon" or "No newbies ". The times I have played with random groups have been super toxic (mostly). People threatening to kick you if you make a mistake or people getting mad that you didn't watch an in-depth guide on youtube beforehand. I got lucky with the Last Wish. I managed to find a good group and we were able to do a couple of raids. Other than that, I did the regular Leviathan with my (now-dead) clan. I have not done any of the Leviathan sub-raids or the Scourge of the past and I probably never will. 2. The loot is not worth the time This is pretty self-explanatory. Why would I waste so much time for a chance to get loot when I could do other activities in the same time frame and get more loot that way? At least give us protection from repeat drops in the raid or something.

                  • leviathan raid and its lairs discouraged raiders in D2 for the following reasons: 1. Ugly gear, If you come from D1 or never played It but heard Of its raids you expect to be getting beautiful, unique and extraordinary gear from the raid. Sadly Leviathans gear was ugly and not the much anticipated cabal themed gear we wanted and still have not gotten. The Raid lairs had essentially one set of armor which Is still, to this day, the ugliest gear. 2. The loot was lackluster. SIns of the Past and Midnight coup where the only guns that stood out as being better than everything else. But why bother with SIns when the vanguard rocket, curtain call, did the same thing and was much easier to get and grind for. In Season 1, Better devils was better because explosives rounds did not reduce headshot damage. It took until the nerf for Midnight coup to be the best handcanon but even then It was only slightly better. This combined with the fact raid weapons had nothing unique about them made everyone a little fussy and made plenty of people quit raiding in general. TLDR; Raid armor sucks, weapons are not better than other guns and not unique enough.

                    • Me and my clan did a lot of raids in D1, now i am the last active player, the fact i will never have 1000 voices really bother me. In the same time, i think the achievement rate for trophy is low not only because having 6 other friends playing Destiny 2 in the same time is hard for a lot of people, but also because a lot of people got Destiny 2 for free. A lot of them just played a little but they are still counted as normal player. That may explain partially the low raid success rate.

D2 raids just aren’t as good and the loot isn’t great so why bother? It’s also a lot of effort trying to get a solid team together who isn’t going to leave half way through especially if things go tits up. Shit rewards combined with toxic community puts people off.
