If you say K/D does not matter... you are wrong.
It is the easiest stat to check when looking to see a players skill. Its not the only stat that matters, but it is the best single stat to check. A positive KD shows me you can kill more than you die.
If you were looking on LFG for a random to join your team for a flawless trials run, who would you choose to give your team the best chance of success?
- Person A with a 0.7 KD
or
- Person B with a 1.5 KD
*******************************EDIT*********************************************
Posting this edit as alot of you dont seem to understand my original post....
Firstly I am not someone who really cares about my own KD, I play and have fun... The KD I have is from playing and being decent and has improved over time(not saying I am amazing at all just above average). I dont try and protect my KD and sit back or anything like that... I am actually pretty aggressive with my playstyle.
I never stated that KD was everything... Just that it is a useful stat to check and it is meaningful as it does show on average if a person can get more kills than they die. KD will always be a meaningful stat in any FPS as if you are killing more than you are dying you are benificial to your team... yes even in the objective gamemodes. KD doesnt tell you the full picture of someones skill at all but it is the easiest stat to check.
I also never said that just becasue you have a bad KD you are a bad player....There could be many factors for example you started off bad and improved a lot over time. What I did say is when looking for a potential team mate off LFG for an endgame PVP activity, KD/ last months KD is one of the easiest stats to check to see if they can hold their own. You normally know nothing about the person so all you have to go from is their stats before inviting them to the game. Therefore KD does matter in that sense.
I posted this as there were people saying they didnt care about their KD, but were sick of being kicked from fireteams for trials etc. I was just stating why it is a useful stat when on a LFG site looking for players.
I can appreciate the fact that KD can be manipulated but this will be the minority of players with good KDs that do this. Most players I have come accross with good KDs are great players.
Damn these forums are toxic...

Mr. Stinson, we meet again! I just wanted to brag about my k/d on my Warlock , 45.0! Titan and Hunter are not nearly as good, 28.0 and 35.0 I think. Good luck in your ventures!
-
My k/d is about 1.5 but honestly I'm no better than an average player with a 1.0 k/d. I'm pretty much going kill for kill like everyone else than I get a little kill streak of 5 which bumps it up.
-
3 RepliesI'm finding it funny how people think camping can get you an easy 2.0+ k/d. These are honestly the type of people who have issues in trials going in with a mindset like that. And I don't blame them, CoD has created this type of view and it's transferring over to Destiny. ~TheGreatNike

Doesn't matter at all. I could go load up a match and go afk and go 0-13 and not a single -blam!- will be given
-
Truth of the matter is that a guardian can improve in skill. In other words, a long time of losing followed by getting gud can cause a k/d that does not reflect player skill.
-
Idgaf what anyone says. If you are worried about kd, grim etc. in this mechanically casual game, you are a sad -blam!-ing nerd. Period.
-
4 RepliesWhen the skill gap is as low as it is, K/D of all things doesn't matter at all.
-
3 RepliesI have a positive attitude to team play - does that count?
-
People think I took your post the wrong way maybe even you. I get on video games to have fun and I know how to play I just care when it's time to. I'm usually testing out weapons or bored. I dont run the meta I will run into groups of people not caring. I will take one of 10 for the team but I do what I do because its fun for me. I dont bother to crouch I dont cherry pick I just do whatever to help the team. There are a ton of people that are better than me and there are also people that think their high k/d can save them from me hahahahahaa. Rngesus doesnt favor me so why try too hard? Lag affects me as well as my connection from what I've been told. Heck if anything Destiny has helped me get in shape because i exercise while my death timer goes off lol
-
You could have 3 .70 kd players that play well together, and they lighthouse easy. It depends on teamwork a lot.
-
It doesn't lol, sometimes i fell like messing around in pvp and that brings it down but at other times im better then most
-
1 ReplyThey should be at least 1.0. But I notice your higher kd players are janitors running last word sniper. I like to push to much for that. But i am still top 6 percent.
-
1 ReplyKD doesn't matter. My stats are very good and I can assure you now I'm very average right now on this game. With the amount of latency and general bullshit that goes off in this game stats aren't worth a light. Just play the game, get on with it. If you lose, cry a little bit and then play the next game.

Pretty sure SBMM is partially based on your KDR... so yeah it matters. Roll with a team of three .5 to 1.0 guardians a d three 1.0+, the greater than 1.0s destroy. We Do this all the time to help control SBMM.
-
I'm a renegade cop who doesn't play by the rules. F*ck KDRs.
-
Seems like a logical post, not sure where all the hate is from. If you want to be competitive, KD matters. If you just want to have fun, don't worry about it.
-
Having a 1.0 kd in control while not having two flags capped makes your kd .5. Kd doesnt matter.
-
2 RepliesI agree to a degree. I've never boosted my k/d or really focused on k/d at all and I hover around a 1.4 overall still. So in my opinion the excuse most people use " I don't care about k/d" or "I sucked in year one" don't hold much truth. I mean we all had to figure things out in yr 1, even the 2.0+ guys.
-
4 RepliesDepends how many kills and playtime do they have in crucible. Expample if 0,7 has more kills but 1,5 has more playtime. That will indicate 0,7 is a agressive player and 1,5 is a passive player then let the person join who suites your playstyle.
-
3 RepliesI check grimoire, if that guy has 4500+, then I ckeck k/d. ...if too low grimoire, or below 0.8 k/d, insta block/ignore
-
36 RepliesEdited by a blue gecko: 6/21/2016 5:24:11 AMEveryone I've ever checked that's been flawless has had an average barely above 1.0KDR. All the players I check with 1.5 or above have never been flawless. If you're a tryhard in standard crucible you probably aren't that great at true competition.
-
1 ReplyI choose person C : a friend who tries his best but we have fun overall because we are grownups and your k/d doesn't mean shit when you pay your bills.
-
People who check stats have no souls :)

Edited by andykage: 6/21/2016 8:46:00 PMI'd take person A, cause you can bet your ass he got that kd playing the objective like a boss an not sat with a sniper or shotgun/melee while crouching In a corner.
