I want to explain first that I really liked the fallout games from last generation and I totally understand why it's such a loved series.
What I don't get is just how fanatical people are about it. The only other game where I've seen this kind of fervor is for the older Dragon Quest games in Japan, where many JP players would take the day off from work or school whenever there was a new release. You don't hear this kind of thing happening for GTA or CoD games (which I can safely assume sell more copies than Fallout), so where does that all come from?

Some franchises have more passionate fans than others. COD may sell more because they're fun; but in Fallout, each player owns their character and consequences that shape the game world. Near endless exploration and choices make the game as different and unique as the person playing it. Everybody has a different story to tell that gives them a deeper connection the game world as well as the community. That's what gives Fallout it's passionate player base.

There wasn't really much Fallout hate around the pre release hype. Without anything keeping the hype in check, people begin to feed off one another and soon standards and expectations are unrealistic.

http://www.metacritic.com/game/pc/fallout-4 Too bad the community hyped it up too much, cause Fallout 4 got metabombed.

2 RepliesEdited by Moodyman2001: 11/9/2015 1:42:51 PMIf half life 3 was announced and then released, it would destroy what gta did for sick days
-
Mainly because cod and gta are now played by 5 year olds, before they start kindergarten.
-
Lmfao when cod came out the male population way back in highschool would die for like 3 days. Hell we had a teacher Riley, who'd literally tale 3 days off.

3 RepliesPersonally I think its because its a beth game and they are notorious for having an excellent modding community and amazing mod support... For pc people anyway, games like this come around once a decade.
-
1 ReplyOver hyped. I remember when people didn't know what the -blam!- fallout was
-
Probably because it's not an annual release
-
People have been waiting around 8yrs or so for this game
-
Its only because they wanted a new fallout game since nv
-
3 RepliesDo you know how many people skipped school for BO3 the other day? Most of the lower years weren't in school
-
9 RepliesBecause you know Bethesda WILL deliver and they are taking their time to do so instead of giving a new game every year and destroy their franchises..
-
7 RepliesCod and gta probably don't sell more copies than fallout games and we have had to wait a while for it so ya know, hype

I've been a fan since '88 when Wasteland laid the foundation for the Fallout universe. Hell, I'm trying to beat Wasteland 2 right now before I move on to Fallout 4. Cured my Destiny addiction.

The last fallout game came out in 2010. We've been waiting five years for this. Just imagine the half-life three hype train.

5 RepliesEdited by clopzo: 11/9/2015 1:20:47 PMGta broke the record for sick days. The amount of people who called in sick was ridicules
-
It happens for GTA, it usually happens for big games that dont release yearly.
-
Largely because people have to wait far longer than they do for games like cod. Anticipation and all that. Plus, they are good games. I just hope the world building is better in 4
