I want to see it through but after that, I’m logging off for good. I was once a raid Sherpa, PVP playing Trials vet, and general lover of this game, who now logs on for the weekly story beat. After I get through the seasonal horde activity, I get my audio log/cut scene and log off as soon as possible.
I’m looking forward moving away from this game and Bungie as a Developer. I refuse to even install Marathon and don’t care to support the series past Final Shape. What about you guys? What is the single defining thing that made you say I’m done after the conclusion of the light and dark saga?
Edit: As someone in this post fairly pointed out, I did not give my reason for why I will not be continuing to play after FS… I could write a research paper on that question, which is why I asked the community to help me fill in the blanks, which so many of you graciously have.
Instead of a long written post, I will keep it simple. While I enjoy the art direction, story, and great base gameplay, harsh monetization, lack of innovation, and increasing technical problems impacting general quality are keeping me from enjoying the already repetitive nature of the live service format.

2 RepliesLate to this one, but I suppose for a "feedback" thread, it would be better to at least add a data point to the pile. D1 Vet, Played since Open Beta, and have stuck around for the entire time thus far. But, like so many others in recent posts here, I too am just no longer finding any way to continue to defend this game any further, and it's very disappointing to me how much raw potential this game/series has always seemed to have, but always just seem to miss the mark on from a few terrible design decisions; With that, I'm probably done with the game once this year is over, I'm already bought in for one last season and one last dungeon, but beyond that the direction of the game is just something I can no longer stand behind. I was a strong advocate against the entire "Bringing Challenge back to Destiny" blog when it came out, I knew what kind of damage that would do to the mid-game and as a result, the more casual audience, and yet Bungie just strolled right through, like nothing would happen. Meanwhile, I watched a majority of my friends and clanmates drop the game when the activities they engaged the most with (Mid-Game, Legend Content, Occasional Master runs when playing w/ me and other higher skilled clanmates) was completely removed from their reach. And so all I was left with was the few friends capable of playing at the highest skill level. These changes aren't even something we consider to be "fun" anymore, it's just tedious. The "magic" of the experience of playing w/ friends and having fun while doing so is just gone now, the entire endgame has been relegated to a checklist, far from the goal Bungie said in "keeping their content relevant and engaging". I do it once for a triumph, and never touch it again. The only "fun" we recently had in the game was "The Craftening", because quite simply it was a complete shutdown of the deltas the game threw in place. Having to poke in and out of cover constantly to plink at targets with primary weapons from a distance is not fun. Throwing abilities (Which are supposed to be the backbone of the game) at enemies and watching them brush it off like nothing is going on, is not fun. As for me, being a warlock main and watching the entire strand class be passed by for fun additions that shake up the gameplay; and subsequently even having the developers show literally zero excitement for the new Warlock super previewed in TFS, is not fun. I could go on, but at this point I'm just tired. Years of feedback given, zero recognition on the forums, almost none of it ever looked at (With the exception of killing double primary in Y1, which was universally panned), but I always stuck around because the experience was fun, and it was fun to play with my friends. Now, they have stopped playing, and as I mentioned before: The "magic" is gone. I do hope for the best going forward for those who do stick around and support Bungie, as long as the game is enjoyable for you, that's really all that should matter, it's just no longer the case for me, and at least going off of recent TWiDs/Blogs, I don't see that changing anytime soon.

2 RepliesPeople are going to be very surprised by the mass exodus.

In D1 when someone said something like this, we would say, “See you on Tuesday reset and again on Friday Xurday.” And sure enough, they were there. Xurday is not really a thing anymore, but we’ll see you at reset…

Probably , nobody

Whether or not I get FS depends on how the last seasons of Lightfall go. If Bungie actually changes their ways, (Yeah right) I might get it. If they don't, or let me be more specific, WHEN they don't, there's always YouTube.

1 ReplyEvaluating my time in destiny and destiny 2. Amazing soul enriching fun that descended into hollow soul ripping longing for that fun….. Destiny is dead….and we keep giving it CPR on the hope it will return. Funny how addiction works.

I’ll do their 3 episodes but yeah I’m done it has been a trip

I will tell you since I hoped on day one of D2 new to the franchise and coming from borderlands. This game used to be exciting, honestly magical in a way. Exploring was really cool, there were cool missions on planets that they have taken away. The gunplay was way different that what I was used to. Exotics actually were exotic, legendary weapons were legendary. You could not just forbearance your way through the entire game. Also, exotics were rare, they dropped like normal weapons and on new seasons it was exciting af to collect them all, not just buy them at the kiosk…. The lore was different, Byf made this world come alive. I used to tune in each week as we discovered more, remember the monster on Titan and how cool that was to wonder about. Weapons also got random rolls back and you had to earn them, not craft them in 1 season pass instantly for the 5/5. The leviathan raid was the most fun I have ever had in a game with friends. I remember the first time we loaded in and someone got into the underbelly. They were there for 30 minutes exploring having a blast. There were different difficulty story missions, timed nightfall trials (arms dealer used to be insane), ghosts to collect and a title to go with it. This is all to say that the magic is completely gone from this game. It is now a linear experience with no charm or creativity. Exotics are free, crafted weapons are basically free, 5 builds matter and that’s it, anything else is just unnecessary anymore. Destiny is a world that transcends space and time yet we never go much further than the helm and the tower anymore. New weapons really do not matter anymore, new armor is pointless if you have a good set, new cosmetics are all micro transactions, vault space is still the same. I bet they are going to try and resell the old areas in game and all of the old planets and that’s why I’m over it. I mean look at this seasons story… Eris has been a witch since she came back, sword logic has been here the entire time and all we do is kill things. If we could kill oryx and crota what is Xivu to us honestly. Why has Osiris not went back to the infinite forest and looked into all of the possibilities of this conflict using the vex. What do the 9 think about our world ending, they do need us after all. This current team at Bungie has diluted this game down so much that its translucent and predictable now.

What is the single defining thing that made you say I’m done after the conclusion of the light and dark saga?
Bungie. Their decisions, agenda and behaviour. Enough has been said (already) about them, a lot rightly. Generally I'm curious, I play video games since several decades, that's one of my hobbies but purchasing Marathon or Matter is out of the question. I'm not angry, it's simply enough based on my experience with them. I wish them luck! I think they need it... No offense.

3 RepliesEdited by CORPERATE COMMANDER: 10/23/2023 3:37:51 AMI was done with this company a long time ago. jokes on anyone still playing keeping this live service robbery alive an not expecting other games to follow in the same footsteps I mean company's can clearly see bungie has got away with it for ages now so why not do the same who cares about the players aslong as investors are happy an they can keep certain lovechild streamers on side. Il not go too much into detail about how the difficulty increase killed the game for a large amount of players except maybe no lifers ,carry services an streamers. Also the fact they will patch an exploit that helps the player within a day but a bug that ruins player experience will stay unpatched for weeks, months if not years . Don't think il ever touch another bungie game again tbh don't get me wrong iv always enjoyed the story even the gameplay style but removing paid content like dlcs was a big no no for me.

3 RepliesI regret not cancelling my LF pre-order when I saw the Osiris/Saint cut scene. In fact, I'm ashamed of it.That stuff alone will determine whether I buy FS. It was never about end game stuff for me so the fake difficulty is tolerable. I play less and less because Neomuna is off limits and battleground Nightfalls are tedious with little incentive. Still love to shoot stuff but I don't want to earn a degree in in builds.

4 RepliesI was 100% sold on finishing L&D saga, and then being done. But recently I've done a lot of thinking about D2 and my opinions on it.. and currently I don't have anymore desire to give Bungie money while they push things in the game that actively go against my ability to play, or enjoyment while playing the game I paid to play.. The weak/over-nerfed abilities, armors, and weapons.. The bulletspongey enemies that 1 or 2 tap you in anything legend or higher, restrictive functionality on builds so you have to use what's most popular.. It's just not enjoyable.. Them making the Witness the raid boss also grinded my gears a bit when the news first dropped. Almost like having the ultimate baddy of the entire 10 (real life) year story be exclusively in something only 20% (last I heard it was about 20%) of the community can do isn't that great.. But, anyways.. I refunded my preorder for Final Shape last night. We will see what Bungie does but at the moment, I guess I'll just watch it all on YouTube. Vote with your money and engagement, right? (P.S. I won't be checking notifs on this. Everyone reading this, have a good day/night. Drink plenty of water.)

I’m more interested to see what happens after as far as player count goes. Are people gonna actually be “done” or will the game continue to have such an odd stable following. As with all things Bungie, I’m skeptically optimistic. After final shape, I’ll wait out the episodes that year to see if they’re even worth considering.
-
3 RepliesI don’t think I’ll even get final shape. Bungie’s politics are disgusting, their management of the game has been spotty, they censor the dumbest -blam!-. And don’t have anyone to play it with cause my friends all moved in to better games.
-
Why wait now? I'll quit smoking -blam!- next year. I swear it.
-
It's over a year away lol I don't know what I'm doing on Sunday, nevermind 2025!

Great point.

The final shape will be more of the same development. Can't wait to see how the business will sweet talk some of you into buying it only to watch how some of you will come back on this forum posting how you regret it 🤷♂️ This business is all about talk, and if some of you actually paid attention to their actions, you would have seen this years ago. The OP is going to do whatever they want, and this post means absolutely nothing at all knowing a lot of you who said "I'm not buying it" are lying to yourselves, especially the ones that have said this a couple of times already with this business "DLC" but end up buying it anyway because of the F.O.M.O. What's actually stupid about that last part is knowing for a fact there is nothing this business could possibly offer that anyone would miss given the fact that this game is designed only to be a cash grab.

Destiny has always been a comfort game, where I can log in, and even if I’m doing something monotonous, it has really good mechanics, and I can chill and relax for an evening. I probably won’t ever grind it as hard as I did when I was younger, but it’ll stay as a nice comfort game to enjoy for a few hours each week.

if they don't make a HUGE rework to the game in 2025, probably lot of player

11 RepliesLet me be honest, this is going to sound very mean but Nobody really cares that you leave bro, I know everyone expects this sentimental post or message but your friends will continue playing, for every person that leaves? New players will come into the game and this cycle will repeat itself and since you invested so much time into this game? You will find nothing like it and like everything in life, months will go by and nostalgia will kick in and you will start remembering all the good things, the good memories , remembering those days that you stayed late at night doing that raid and finally getting that exotic, etc, things like that, you will begin playing other games and hoping to fill that void, you will starting comparing other games to destiny and eventually you will realize that there nothing like destiny and you will come back. Lets be honest, you will come back, they always come and you will come back. Maybe instead of focusing on so much negativity or creating drama or seeking attention, let’s all hope final shape is better!! Hope new raid is awesome and hope learns from their mistakes!

If the game adds a good amount of new content with the Acts and it's fun, I'll play. If not, I won't. If the new Acts are a bunch of busywork, involving replaying old content to access the new event, I can't really see myself buying anything other than the main campaign. When they tie old content to new events, it ruins the experience for me because I'm not getting a break from the repetition. Also, I really don't understand where they're going with power levels. In my opinion, they're overtuning their core events, and I don't know what the power fantasy is supposed to be, but it's getting boring running at max DR in every event.

1 ReplyThey constantly ban me for having an opinion they don't like. They have injected politics and ideology that 98% of the population dislikes/disagrees with. The huge increase in downtime/error codes. The lack of innovation when it comes to new content. The lack of new pvp/strike maps. The absolute cliff dive they took from witch queen to lightfall. The lack of communication. The sacking of talented devs to replace them with politically like-minded geeks with no talent. The decision to remove the new subclass from the coming expansion. Repeating seasonal model with as little work as possible (while increasing prices). There's probably a few more but who cares, that's more than enough to make anyone walk away from bungie.
