First I do not play hunter much.... I will preference that, but also state gamblers dodge and shade step are the 2 most potent escape abilities in the game and the benefits of auto reload and getting back melee energy are very good utility... do I think they should be nerfed? No.... but I will use the ability as a comparison to show why the others are not in a good spot.
First Rally Barricade.... the removal of auto reloading neutered any use of this ability. While towering Barricade situationally is useful.... Rally has 0 benefits. The reload speed increase is almost unnoticeable and the purpose of the 1 second delay of deploying this from what I can only feel is a wrist watch makes this ability.... probably the most useless in the game.
Empowering rift... the benefit of this ability compared to a healing rift is nothing. The minute buff this rift gives you vs the ABILITY TO STAY ALIVE in the healing rift with how you have certainly increased difficulty in endgame has made this rift basically obsolete... unless with a coordinating team with second lock with healing which even in endgame activities like nightmare hunts, high level strikes, & raids your teammates will still question your overall strategy.
Which brings me to this... does anyone actually use these in PVP? Maybe there is some high level strategy I'm not in the loop about but even the highest to lowest levels... I never see these never... the delay of these abilities make these nothing more then a slight inconvenience in pvp... and due to the delay its only plausible to use these 2 abilities behind cover which.... after the "go fast" update means when you actually use these your getting 12 pellets to the face from an ape way before there is any benefit from these 2 abilities.... but both dodges for hunter are instant and that to me makes no sense. Not that a dodge should have a delay but placing all three abilities side by side.... other then visual appeal.... why should using an ability on Warlock and titan be more of a liability with little to 0 utility other then a slight damage increase and basically shooting a baby gate from my wrist where a dodge that refunds your magazine or gives you melee energy is instant how does that at all make sense? Well... I actually have a theory that this was not an issue prior to go fast and now after that update, the buffs to weapon TTK, and the inevitable systemic issues in this game we merely excepted these because of pve... rally let you shoot forever and lunifaction empowering rift meant better dps... but now... it doesn't.. and those systemic issues shine through and make these options as useless as aeon exotic armor pieces.
My final thoughts and thanks for sticking with me: every season you over buff or provide these much needed exotics to warlocks and titans which I believe is to try and get hunter mains to run the other classes (see Antaus Wards, OEM, or Contreverse holds for reference) yet you then need to 180 because of the community and nerd them.... but you never fix the real systemic issues with Class imbalance.... like the fact hunters have the best inherent jump, movement speed (on x,y axis), and abilities which do not actually become a burden to use. Where as titans and warlocks have crap abilities like rally and empowering rift that actually can get you killed more often then not.
I'm not saying to Nerf Hunters I'm saying a utility rework to Warlock and titans specifically their less used abilities so there is a reason to use them
Also, (and sorry for the rant) I would really enjoy a post season analysis which actually show ability usage, exotic armor usage, and other statistics that there is not a 3rd party site posting already. I know light.gg and a few other do subclass and weapon usage.

I use (PvP) empowering rift vs healing since I think it takes too long get to overshield or reliable healing fast enough rather I prefer having a higher recovery stat most of time I forget to deploy but in case I do use it because I want to hold down a position and get multiple kills or at least do more dmg then normal hope teammates Finnish the enemy.

I use empower with sturm/drang for the nasty 1 tap.

Edited by RussellMania: 6/8/2020 7:16:49 PMNo, no one uses them in PvP. Yes, hunters still have far and away the best class ability for PvP. No, hunter mains won’t admit it. Yes, Bungie still won’t do anything despite admitting the clear class imbalance.

Rally barricade is garbage in pve, idk about pvp but I doubt it's useful. Empowering rift has its uses in both pve and pvp it should be left alone. But yes rally barricade needs a tweak, it has nothing going for it.
-
2 RepliesRally barricade should give guerilla fighter where you get like...damage resistance for making use of the barrier. It can't really do anything else that will make it useful.
-
1 ReplyYes, the cast times of Barrier and Rift always get you killed. Even if you try using the artifact mod to get an overshield while using them you're stuck in that one spot getting shot at the whole animation. Where as the hunters dodge is an instant get out of jail free card.

2 RepliesEdited by MIKKY THE MOOSE: 6/9/2020 6:17:42 AMAs a Hunter Main I do agree that the hunter dodge is a useful escape ability when used with tactics and good positioning. I don’t think it’s as good as many make out to be. I play quite a lot of comp and when you come up against a good players who uses the hunter dodge well I see why many complain about it. However when playing against good players escaping is not very easy. I can’t tell you how many times good players have killed me while using my dodge ability. Also as a hunter main we are not as fast as Titians and Warlocks. Also nothing is more frustrating to me then getting the better of my opponent just so they could through a barricade in my face and camp behind with a shotgun or fusion rifle which are very hard to avoid even with a well timed and practiced Dodge. I have also been completely destroyed by good Warlocks and Titians especially in comp. Despite how underwhelming the dodge ability feels when facing Titians and Warlocks who are very good players and make good use of there abilities. A good Titian can Halt a gunfight entirely with a barricade and a Warlock can’t completely melt you with the arc soul rift combination and destroy you if challenged depending on the circumstances. As much as those a abilities frustrate me I do believe they both should be buffed especially the warlocks rift ability and the Titian barricades should have never been nerfed in the first place. A good start could just be speeding up the rate at which those abilities can be casted.I do believe that the reason why some people get so frustrated with the hunter dodge is because of how responsive it is I will admit if used properly in can seem like the equivalent to oh crap button sometimes. But it is not op I don’t believe a nerf is needed. Like some would believe trust me getting sniped, fusion rifled shot gunned, or just sprayed at in the middle of the dodge makes it feel very underwhelming sometimes. After all we hunters can’t shoot back when dodging. Marksman’s Dodge should not really be used in a wide open space defeats its entire purpose. Gamblers dodge is better for open spaces especially if your in close proximity thanks to its synergy with melee. This is just my opinion hope it gives some better insight to us Hunter Mains. I believe the main problem with Crucible as whole is the over use of special weapons or special weapon spam if you want to call it that and the use of power creep weapons like Lunas. Not Forgotten, and pre patch recluse. All you see at the higher levels of comp is just special weapons. Lunas, and Not forgotten. It was way worse pre patch it better know but still needs works. My main weapons of choice are Mida Multi Tool and a sidearm which are both much better than before but still not what people who are playing sweaty use.

1 ReplyLike you said reverting rally barricade is great bcuz not only it gives the rally barricade viability it also only lasts for like 15 seconds instead of the half minute that well of Radiance did and another thing to rally barricade is a lot smaller and more difficult to stand in compared to Well Lumafaction.
-
11 RepliesEmpowering should get a damage buff, rallying should get a much bigger reload boast imo
-
1 ReplyI don't understand why when they nerfed rally barricade, that they just didn't revert it back to how it was in Y1.
-
14 RepliesI use healing rift in pvp but empowering is a waste of time, even if you use Luna for the extra range
-
2 RepliesEmpowering rift allows you to one shot body with revoker in PVP and healing rift in PvP is also hella useful especially with arc souls
-
9 RepliesEmpowering rift literally does nothing useful lol. Except possibly making Ace 2 tap, oh wait you have to stand in one spot.
-
Empoweribg rift is not in as bad a state as tally barricade, but Rifts and barricades need more utility or advantages without being forced to use exotics like hunters have to be more competitive.
-
3 RepliesRally barricade is useless I’ll give you that. However Empowering is great. Your not placing healing rifts out in the open, and if you are , your probably not in end game content. So implying that, you wouldn’t place empowering in the open either. Bar facing AOE I think ER are better for almost every scenario. Reason for that is you can spec for recovery.... you can’t spec for damage. Mind you , I don’t do much endgame atm, but from my experience it’s great to have the two. What I’m trying to get at here is ER aren’t useless or underpowered as people say they are. StarFire Protocol is a great exotic to pair with it. Especially with grenadier active

Yes, now you understand. Many abilities and perks designed for Year 1 were never updated for the changes to PvP.
-
1 ReplyI feel like rifts and barricades are stuck in year 1.
-
I always use empowering rift in crucible. Comes in clutch every once in a while especially while capturing zones or holding down territory until I have to gtfo
-
9 RepliesYou've never use Empowering Rift to OHK body with snipers have you?
