Sunsetting Gear was why Infusion was brought into Destiny in the first place!

NOBODY liked their gear being made redundant in Destiny, which is why House of Wolves solved that with infusion using etheric light and then improved further with The Taken King. to make sunsetting a feature again would be to throw all of that in the dumpster, even though it worked and it made the playerbase content and comfortable with what gear they could stick with.

  • I bet the sun will rise again . . . In the form of something dumb like etheric light or some crap it'll prolly cost like 4k brightdust and like 7 exotic shards.

    • You must be a new light. Get over it use different guns You can still use your favorite guns in normal crucible and low pve content

      • Etheric light was only for exotics though wasn't it? Not to mention infusion only worked on weapons and armour post taken king. I'm not keen on sunsetting, but your argument is heavily flawed.

        • Hold up there for a minute. While I liked the new loot system introduced in taken king, I was not on board with infusion. I have since learned to live with it, but I’m very much an advocate of using current content gear in current content. I’m not for bringing the same guns through a year and a half of content. I was a big WoW player back in the day, and I appreciated that you had to get the new stuff when new content dropped. And now, I’m a big destiny player, and I still prefer leaving old gear in the past for new gear. I’m not saying your opinion is wrong, I’m only saying that there are players out here with a different preference, and your preference is not the only one.

As a community request in fact. You know, the company that "never listens to us" brought in a system due to community cry-...criticism. Here we are boys =)

          • They’re actually regressing from what little progress they’ve made, and it’s sad. Myself and many others feel betrayed by the notion of sunsetting. I put up with them hitting the reset button enough times by now. I won’t do it again. Anyone teetering on the edge of selling/deleting their account, packing their bags, and leaving the game (myself included) will probably take this as an invitation to do so. Why invest time into the game if the game or those that made it refuse to respect your time?

          • It won't change a single thing. Everyone goes for the strongest gear, we always have and always will, sunsetting all your old stuff doesn't change that fact. Bungies lack of creativity and ability to move the game on fast enough is the problem. No no supers, interesting perks and they wonder why everyone goes for outlaw/rampage on everything. Power creep ain't even a thing in destiny and hasn't been for a long time. It's just excuse after excuse for lack of actual quality content.

          • Bungie has stated in the past that they cannot keep up with the workload of having a vendor refresh every year as well as a bunch of new guns every year. It wasn’t that long ago that they said that kind of pace wasn’t realistic for them and they actually referenced that season of the drifter, black armory, and season of opulence was too stressful for them.... yet here people like you are saying you don’t even know how many guns they are going to release..... honestly it will probably be somewhere around five new guns a season and a whole bunch of old guns thrown in as well. This is what they have been doing since shadowkeep which by the way was the SMALLEST yearly dlc to date. They haven’t been releasing much content this year and their excuse was once again.... we cannot keep up with the model we had before shadowkeep and it was too stressful on our developers. This was their whole reason for shifting to the current model.... well that and money but as I was saying. I should take this time to mention that Forsaken, Season of the drifter, black armory, and season of opulence all put together added less content than The Taken King did back in destiny 1. In the taken King we experienced gear retirement but what came with it was an across the board refresh to every vendor in the game. This included crucible, vanguard, new monarchy, Dead orbit, Future War Cult, Iron Banner, Trials of Osiris, Prison of elders, Petra Venj..... those were just the vendors. We also got all new strike specific loot, all new exotic quests, all new world drops, and a bunch of new exotic weapons and armor. That is why the taken King was ok but this is not. Bungie will not be able to do that kind of update to weapons and armor every single year considering we have had the same set of iron banner weapons since forsaken, the same set of vanguard weapons since forsaken, the same set of crucible weapons since forsaken, and the same set of gambit weapons since forsaken. They did add a few more weapons for gambit prime and reckoning but that came in a different dlc and it was the only weapons they released for that dlc..... unless they take the taken king approach to this(which they won’t) this will only piss off and alienate their community after this falls flat on its face.....

            • Don’t forget they threw all of Destiny 1 in the dumpster as well, so I doubt they’re bothered tbf. I’m glad I left some months back. I’ve felt much better about gaming, actually had fun again and I haven’t looked back. The game became poison when the D2 sell sell sell model launched.

            • It's funny how certain players think they speak for everyone. When this company can at least manage vault space, let alone organize it, maybe things will improve. Not counting on it though knowing we're going into the 7th year.

              • See the thing is that initially infusion was brought on to make all your old guns feel new again, it was an easy injection of "new" content that didn't cost them anything, not an answer to people getting their gear outrank by new gear, because that was par for the course in this genre.

              • My solution: There has been a lot of disputes over the topic of weapon and armor sun setting, and I have reached a potential solution that may lessen the extremes of it. Each account should be awarded a mod socket for a primary, secondary, and heavy weapon. Once equipped, the gun can be infused up in light to whatever the max of that given season is. This mod socket cannot be removed unless the user dismantles that gun. For example, I have a god roll beloved and I would love to keep it for the foreseeable future. Instead of having a targeting adjuster mod on it, I will be forced to put this anti sunset mod on it in order for it to stay relevant in high light level activities. If I wanted to put the anti sunset mod on a mindbenders ambition, I would need to dismantle my beloved in order to do so. This solution would encourage people to use new guns because only those will not be subject to the anti sunset mod. The new guns would have an advantage over there predecessor because they would have valuable mods that can only be attached to them. For example, overload rounds and backup mag mods would only be able to be used on new guns, therefore makeing them the preferred weapon of usage. This would create a new gun economy in destiny where new weapons certainly have their advantages, but users of a long time gun would not have to delete their favorite weapons as they would have otherwise become irrelevant.

And it’s why I said that it was a mistake back then, and that it would inevitably lead to this day. Only I didn’t realize that a Bungie would burn up Almos five years trying every possible alternative before finally bowing to the inevitable. You can’t have a loot game where people keep everything and endlessly level it up. It doesn’t work, and it never will work.

                    • Correct. You hit it on the head. They had the right approach, you guys cried, so they created some convoluted and economy heavy systems to appease the community. Now they're realizing how big of an error that was, and making a tough call that will cost them a good amount of the playerbase and a lot of headaches.

                      • You're forgetting that they gave us infusion, a mat to grind for to do it, and then still made us throw everything away when TTK dropped, only to bring many items back again before the game truly came to a close. They have proved to us before that they will screw is. They have proved that it will be no good loot, just different loot, and rereleases. They have proved to us before that this will rip the community apart. And they don't care.

                        • 100% Correct, but then Luke Smith trashed all the Y1 gear we had infused to Y1 max, at the start of Y2... The guy has form on this. He thinks you have to render old gear obsolete annually, now he's trying to do it every 6 months! If he had his way it would be every season!
