I like the suggestions below that people who quit should lose triple points etc (go further and increase the points loss for every time they do it!) of course there needs to be a way to distinguish between connection loss (or someone pulling out their connection) and quitting

The only thing i'm against is when you get punished because of bungo's bad peer to peer system, all but one of my games were bad connection based games, where i was the only one lagged out due to the connection the enemy team had. The one game i did quit was because i needed to leave irl. So i had to shut off my ps4.
-
Quitting once in a while shouldn’t get you banned (and doesn’t at the moment) and I agree if the P2P connection is causing people to drop out of games they shouldn’t be punished. Looking at the comments from others bungie should be able to distinguish the different type of quits.
-
Ahh, well the warning i got was over me getting booted/dropped because of peer to peer connections, but of course bungie wont do anything to fix that for me.
-
Nope, people have been asking for bungie to upgrade and they still won’t despite being a AAA developer
-
Unfortunately there's literally no way for Bungie to know if someone pulled out their ethernet cord or if they got DDoSed. Or indeed, if they got disconnected due to Bungie's crap servers/netcode. There _should_ be a way for Bungie to tell if someone menu'd out of the game, though.
-
Then you end up with a half empty player pool as people simply stop going to crucible. Perhaps they should instead invest time fixing -why- people quit. We'll see how next season goes.
-
People quit because of poor team matches. If you play the same team 3x in row and know your gonna get stomped why stay your gonna lose anyway. Might aswell lose points on your own terms and quit. Staying in a mtach for 12mins just lose is not fun if there is not a single chance to win
-
Absolutely, That is one of many reasons they quit. What would happen in this instance if Bungie invested in teams not playing each other over and over? Less quitting perhaps. It may also add to player pool growth which would also add more teams into the rotation.
-
Why would increasing the loss for players that quit impact the player pool?
-
Edited by Quickest Curve: 9/14/2019 7:15:28 PMPart of (I won't claim all) the people who quit don't want to be there. They are enticed in by quests. They are pushed into poor matches. Stacks, matches against players that aren't just better than you but they are in the stratosphere, etc. They quit the match. If we dog pile them with bad ban mechanics they finally give up and never come back. Instead of growing the crucible player pool we drive players out.

Good points. I think it’s like any changes m, it will have unintended consequences. It’s like alcohol reforms and the lock out laws in Sydney. it’s to control excessive drinking and reduce crime but the argument is that not everyone that drinks punches people on the street. Not a great metaphor by me but just saying no matter what bungie does (if it does anything) it will impact on people who do the right thing (like drop out of games cause of bungie’s P2P connections)
-
The problem is that most people quit because they have just come across the other team/players recently and lost or are in the game and it’s obviously they are going to lose. So why waste time is what they are thinking. Quitting gives the same points loss as sticking it out. And the timer ban isn’t sufficient. That’s why I like the multiplier for losses, if you quit you lose more points. I’m not a big fan of the alternative, that is people who are in still in the game and lost don’t lose points. Makes it easy for teams to carry someone to fable/legend. Just about to lose, One player quits and the rest of the team benefit.
I like people’s suggestion that people who quit should lose triple points etc (go further and increase the points loss for every time they do it!) of course there needs to be a way to distinguish between connection loss (or someone pulling out their connection) and quitting
I am absolutely certain that Bungie has the ability to tell when someone voluntarily leaves a match and when it is a connection issue! I have been in matches and seen matches where people leave and it is so unfair on those who are left behind in the team. Not only do they usually get stomped, but they inevitably lose points on top of it - very very demoralising.

Some players already use every possible method to circumvent the game, from kill lobbies to pulling out of matches against teams. They will find a way to cheat the system. I doubt if Bungie can tell if a lost connection is accidental or the result of a router reset. We already see evidence that people manipulate their connections to gain an advantage. I'm sure there are times when Shaxx hides his face in despair at the lack of honor in the Crucible.

I am though certain, that Bungie would be able to tell the difference between a connection disconnection and a non-connection disconnection. We shall have to wait and see how Shadowkeep goes as I believe the point loss isn’t as bad? But I hope they do start showing empathy to those who stay and continue the match and I hope they stop having quests where you gain bonus from playing in Comp (or whatever they call it).

Was there ever any honor in Crucible? ;)

What about pulling your internet cable?
-
Console manufacturers put in some ways to detect if someone deliberately pulled their network cable (from their console), or used a hardware lagswitch. But there are plenty of software options to do the same thing that cannot be detected, since the console's internet is being piped through a laptop or a desktop with two ethernet adapters, and all the network manipulation is going on on the computer which is effectively being used as a router which can also run software that can throttle any and all connections to and from their computer, at will. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cheating_in_online_games#Artificial_lag/lag_switch
What about pulling your internet cable?
Thank you. Interesting comments, definitely learned something. 👍
What about pulling your internet cable?
I’m sorry, I’m not sure how to word this? I would like to think that Bungie could still tell when someone has completely left D2 as oppose to a server connection issue?
-
I think they would be able to tell as well. Bungie needs to do more about this but sadly I think nothing will happen.
I think they would be able to tell as well. Bungie needs to do more about this but sadly I think nothing will happen.
I am hoping with how there is a new scorer system in Shadowkeep that it should at least be a start for getting better. Nobody, and I mean nobody should lose full points because they opted to do the right thing by staying in a match even when most, if not all of their team left. They need to be tougher on players who voluntarily leave matches and show empathy to those who remain. Why should I lose exact same points, lose a win streak as the same person in my team who couldn’t be bothered continuing the match - where is the fair balance in that? Which is why they should never have quests (except Luna/NF) in comp as players are playing the quest - not the game mode. If Bungie truly wants to bring life into Comp, then they need to give reasons for people to stay in comp and to play it. My worry is, if the basis of comp remains the same, then all these new players coming in in Shadowkeep will be pushed away from Comp - and by feck, does Comp need a stronger player base! Sorry, went on a rant there.

If there is repeated internet connection losses then they should get a temporary suspension.
