I love menagerie, it’s a great way to earn weapons, choose what you want, and gives stuff to grind.
Only problem is blackout. The mode is phenomenal when this isn’t the modifier. It makes the whole experience not fun, and makes me want to stop playing menagerie until reset.
It works in strikes because they are lower light and include a variety of enemies in fairly large arena’s. Menagerie is mostly consisting of hive, and the rooms are fairly small. At the current, most of the encounters include melee based activities that consist of sword knights, tons of thrall, DarkBlades, ogres etc. And all of these are in small spaces.
Now this works in something like strikes or nightfalls because it’s not an endgame activity. Light is lower, and you can survive a few attacks. But this is an endgame activity that specifically involves smaller areas, melee based enemies, and melee based goals.
For example, The Riposte. I’m 730 right now, and even at the beginning with only 720 knights, I’m getting 1 shot. And dozens of thrall spawn constantly while being attacked by knights. 2-3 thrall could ruin a run in the span of 2 seconds or less.
Especially when arc burn is on like the day of this post. Getting one shot by nearly everything in very confined spaces sucks. Meaning just because the algorithm has decided to give blackout, it could ruin a run for a triumph or weapon.
TL;DR
Blackout works for strikes, doesn’t work for menagerie.

1 ReplyI like the modifier for strikes, i activate it on every nightfall in combination with "extinguish" and "match game". I also like it on reckoning and yes, it is always beatable on t3 with randoms without a well, it's just a nice challenge. And i can just disagree, that "the hunted" is unplayable with the blackout modifier. it's just a nice challenge (like reckoning t3 with blackout) and also beatable with low level randoms, your squad just need a bit experience. But "the riposte" is with a full 6-Mate-Squad on LL750 almost impossible, you need 2 sword super and/or a ton of luck to beet a ogre or two, but it's not the modifier that kills you because of the knights or the thralls, it's the boss stomp with the blackout modifier that kills your squad within a second. So i just like the modifier, and i looove the menagerie and a nice challenge, but it's just bullshit to design a melee-encounter with blackout as a modifier.

I agree. The Riposte and The Hunted are just not fun when this modifier is on.

1 ReplyBlackout is totally fine in these encounters

2 RepliesBlackout becomes easier when you reach proper power level.

2 RepliesI think I’m missing something about the blackout modifier. Don’t remember it saying that melee damage is increased for enemies but like you said I keep getting one shot by things that usually take 2-3 hits to kill me.

I completely agree. It really is annoying in some activities.
