So I decided to grind for Luna's Howl - I quit after 1 game.

What follows is a detailed account of my one and only competitive match I will play this season. The names have been changed to protect the innocent, but the events have been told to the best of my recollection. Please take this with a grain of salt. I work in the research/statistics field for a living and would never claim such a limited anecdotal experience is representative of the population. That said, I do find it comical how closely this seems to match the experiences of those who have put their own sanity on the line in their quest for this season's pinnacle weapons. Because the rewards looked so good, and because I needed every edge I could get I decided to spend the first 6 weeks grinding, leveling, and gearing to give myself the best shot I could. I made it to 600, studied all the new subclasses, and tested each extensively in quick-play and Iron Banner. Always being a fan of blink, I was partial to Nova Warp (OP discussions reserved for another time), and wasn't surprised to see their overall KDA confirmed via Guardian.GG and other sources. Great! I had a subclass. Now to gear up with my most meta load-out possible. Nova Warp - Check Dust Rock w/ Range MW - Check Trust w/ Outlaw/Rampage - Check Wardcliff Coil - Check Scavenger Perks - Check Contraverse Hold - No? OK, how about any Forsaken Exotics at all? No? OK, nevermind, I digress. OK, I was ready, let's do this! After waiting in orbit for what seemed like a week, my ship finally rockets back to life confident that Bungie's foolproof matchmaking algorithm has selected the best possible competitive match for me and my soon-to-be brothers in arms. I quickly check the roster, and find my first of many disappointments. Four solos vs. you guessed it, a four-stack. OK, not what I would have chosen, but what do I know? I'm not the Bungo-Tron-5000, and who am I to question our future robot overlord? Let's see who we're up against. Of our four opponents one has Luna's Howl and one has Not Forgotten. Not a great start. All four are using high range SGs. One Chaperone. Two Warps and Two Barrages. OK, so they're a little further along than I am. Or maybe a lot further along, this being my first Comp match all season. But let's not despair. But wait, there's one more detail about this team that seems suspicious. The two with Luna's/NF are from the same clan. And the other two? From two different clans. I'm not into conspiracy theories, but could these be account recoveries? Nah, I'm probably just paranoid, they probably just used LFG to round out their team like I would do if I was a little smarter and not a glutton for punishment hellbent on doing this on my own. Let's reserve judgement for now and just do our best. My next surprise comes when we begin our descent toward Earth. OK, Bannerfall?, Legions?, Midtown?. Nope. Vostok. Ugh! Does anyone really like this map? No matter, we'll give it our best and I'm sure that we'll do just. . . F@$K!!! Countdown! Why not just keep Elimination, I mean did they really need to create objective game modes in compe. . . I'm sorry, I digress. This is fine, we'll do fine. Let's go Team! Round 1! Team? Team? Where's the rest of my team. I see AsianTomCruise, he's here and nice Wishender BTW. And there's Dildozer, suspiciously immobile, but where's Admiral_Snackbar? Is he still in a holding pattern somewhere over Trostlands? Nope, just gone. No warning, no explanation, just up and vanished like a fart in the wind. OK, we're still OK, we've got this just stay togeth. . . Tom? Where's Tom? TOM!!!!, you're rushing them with a bow! Bold strategy, but he's AsianTomCruise, and that's kind of his thing. He must know something I don't. Wishender got a buff right? I mean sure it did, upon taking damage you now get an overshield equal to 10x damage taken and it fires Wolf-pack Rounds, Gjallarhorn style. Oh, wait, no it doesn't do any of that, and. . . Oh hi shotgun. . . Round 2!!! After an exceptionally long pause Tom and I spawn in on offense sans-Dildozer. Seems a little quick to be booted for inactivity, but hey I'm not Bungo-Tron-5000. This time ATC (that's what his friends call him) and I rush together. and attempt a flanking maneuver through the caves hopeful to get the drop on at least one of them. Success!!! They've closed on us from every entrance trapping us in the middle of the cave. . . Shotgun blasts ensue. . .Round 3! ATC had to bring mom some TP in the bathroom so I'm solo on this one. In an act of extreme cunning I decide to see how long I can play hide and seek with them. They didn't know I changed the game mode. Shotgun blasts ensue. . . Round 4! Blade Barrage . . . Round 5! Nova Warp . . . Round 6! Nova Warp . . . MY NOVA WARP!!! Payback time. . . Blade Barrage . . . Round 7! Nova Warp . . . Your Team Loses! Uninstall. Seriously though, this was my first Comp match I've played all season and with little embellishment for comedic effect this is pretty much how it went. I'm not exaggerating when I say I won't play another match this season. Lunas/NF look great, but not worth the frustration, and my hats off to all of you who did it legit. I'm just hoping they offer Luna's via a Broadsword style time-investment quest next season. I love Destiny and Crucible, but Comp is a different world. Between the paid carries and broken matchmaking it needs real work before its ever something I'd consider putting any serious time investment into. Good Luck out there Guardians, I'm pulling for ya! . EDIT: Thanks to those who took the time to read, and got a laugh out of it. Just to clarify I'm really not trying to complain here. I really just wanted to see if comp was as bad as everyone makes it out to be this season, and thought it was funny I ran into almost all of the problems people complain about in a single match. Loaded in with 3 teammates, matched against a 4-stack, players who were already Fabled/Legend rank, potential account recoveries (although this is an outside chance based only on the players being from different clans, probably not a recovery), AFK teammates, and another who didn't have the first clue. I totally expect anyone playing in a competitive team to use the best (meta) weapons and set-up. If I really wanted to make a serious run at it I have friends who are great PvP Players, and made the grind for Redrix with them last season. Even after being carried though it was really painful and I just couldn't bring myself to do it again this season, but wanted to see if it had improved. Spoiler: It hasn't. • You claim to have a background in stats and that a limited anecdotal experience such as yours is not representative of the population/activity, and yet here you are quitting after one game from drawing a conclusion from said anecdotal experience. Because why else would you quit from one game if you did not already draw a conclusion?
