Oh, yeah. The description of Icebreaker is "Please replace these components if use causes fatal damage: HEAT SINK. MAGAZINE. OPERATOR". The Grimmoire card for it is:
"The Ice Breaker series was a clandestine project developed by the Vanguard in conjunction with various City weapons foundries. Meant as an exploration of Golden Age weapon technology, the project was scrapped after only a single weapon reached the testing phase.
The prototypes for the project's lone weapon are considered dangerous and unfit for field duty by the Vanguard. This hasn't stopped daring Guardians from seeking out the Ice Breakers - death, after all, is an occupational hazard."
Basically, the implication seems to be that it's an attempt to replicate golden age tech, but had a serious overheating problem and a tendency to blow up and kill the person using it, so the project was abandoned.

Dewd. They should've made the gun to randomly explode like that! Would've made using the gun all the more terrifying...

Actually that might have been a smart way to balance out its unlimited ammo capabilities. Imagine if instead of automatically recharging ammo, you had to hold the reload button for a short time. But as you hold it down it also builds up heat, Halo plasma pistol style, and if it overheats it blows up. So you'd have to alternate charging up and cooling down to use it effectively. They could tune the speed of the recharge, heat up, and cool down to get what ever average reload speed they wanted.
