Everyone should stand for the Pledge of Allegiance?

Firstly, it's very stupid when people don't stand up. I honestly thinks it's very disrespectful. I understand when someone feels like that the country isn't good right now so therefore they don't stand. But when I look around. They are looking down on their -blam!-ing phones not giving a shit. Now that's when I consider it disrespectful. We hear the announcements and say the pledge at the beginning of period 2. I have American History. Isn't it a bit ironic? This generation is totally -blam!-ed. They don't respect their country [b] AT ALL[/b]. Also, flag burners should also be punished. I'm not talking about jailing them, but fining them. ALSO PEOPLE WHO ARGUES AGAINST THE UNDER GOD IN THE PLEDGE.     • You see I do it because it's the only respectful thing to do. Should we be doing it? No there is absolutely no reason to have an old tradition kept in school like this as it adds nothing to the learning experience after 11 years of school.

      A few years ago during Remembrance Day(Veteran's day for Canada) some asshats were on their phones and laughing throughout the whole ceremony. That's like -blam!-ing around at hundreds of thousands of funerals at the same time, and war hero funerals at that. It's one thing to disrespect your country, it's another to disrespect those who gave their lives for it.

      • The pledge of allegiance is the most unconstitutional thing in America. The government is supposed to be by the people, of the people, and for the people. If we don't agree with what the government is doing or feel like it isn't defending our rights, it is our constitutional responsibility to change or replace it. I'll stand during the pledge to respect our troops and not get people triggered for no reason, but I'm not going to say the pledge because it's simply un-American.

        • I stand, but that's the extent of it. It's pretty -blam!-ed to force kids to do anything in school. 13 years of being forced to do the pledge of allegiance, it starts to come off more like North Koreans saluting a picture of Kim Jong Un that is held in every room. And who knows, maybe I'll stop standing one day.

            If we are truly a free sovereign nation, we should be able to do whatever the -blam!- we want as long as it doesn't directly harm anyone else.

Plus why does standing up and clutching your nipple mean anything more than playing angry birds or some shit, both are wastes of time and accomplish nothing. Also flag burning should be perfectly legal, if you buy the flag it is your property and you can do what you want with it

                    • Some people don't seem to understand. The founding fathers built the country on Christian ideals because the religion has some good stuff at its core. Respect, no senseless killing/violence, etc.

                      So many edgy millennials with zero respect... I could say that it's because of what that flag stands for that you have what you have and that if you want to flex your freedom muscles, there are more productive ways than choosing not to do something so incredibly basic.                         • I haven't stood for the Pledge in nearly three years. Here are the reasons why: 1. The "one nation, under God" is completely false. America is based on the principle of religious freedom, and thusly, there are many religions being practiced therein. 2. Going off of the last point, the "under God, indivisible", instantly divides the country. 3. The words "under God" weren't in the original version. They were added in during the Cold War to separate America from "those godless commies". 4. "Liberty and Justice for all" is also completely false. Discrimination still runs rampant across the United States (i.e. atheists can't run for office in seven states). The Pledge of Allegiance, ironically, is pledging AGAINST allegiance. It describes the opposite of what the United States of America stands for, not to mention it is riddled with inaccuracies.
