Friend's gamertag banned
A friend of mine who has had the same Playstation gamertag for 6 years was banned yesterday. Why? Well he was in the Tower grabbing Bounties before going to bed yesterday morning and someone that was in the Tower "was offended". This person reported him to Playstation and when he got up and tried to log on he received an error message. He then called Playstation support to discover the reason. What does this mean? He was a year 1 player so he lost all 3 of his characters, his Grimoire, and everything he has earned over the past 2 years. He also has to rebuy any games that were purchased under the "offensive" gamertag. The sad part is he was a Sherpa. Whenever anyone messaged him for help he gladly added them and did. So if you happen to be the Guardian that got Whtusay***** banned... You SUCK!

6 RepliesOn XboxOne if you're reported for an offensive gamertag MS just forces you to change it. You don't lose anything you've accomplished because your account doesn't get cancelled. If PS4 just simply bans you instead of allowing you to change your username I'm glad I didn't jump ship this console generation. No offense to anyone that has a PS4 (play what you like) but if all my progress and purchases were negated due to someone feeling offended and reporting me, I'd be exceptionally upset.

They (PlayStation) should force you to change your name, like Microsoft does, instead of just banning you. This practice will do nothing but drive PlayStation customers away.

You can get comm banned on xbox based on reports only. It's nothing new

Your making the assumption this band happened straight away. Could have been someone or a few people a week ago. Depends on how fast they react at Playstation and if it was that offense it's difficult to have sympathy.

I'm very sorry that happened to your friend, but if his name was offensive I can understand. I find it silly that PlayStation doesn't just force you to change your name, like Xbox, but instead makes you create an entirely new account.

1 ReplyThe only time I've seen Sony straight up ban someone is if, - Their PSN is considered "offensive" - You aggressively harass people - You manipulate your network to exploit a game or obtain items in the PSN store - Or you hack and modify your console. I'm am sure there is more than that, but ive had friends banned for those reason and even then, It took Sony a few months to actually do anything about it. Had a friend named "Suk_my_Ass" (lol) been that name since PS4 launched and they just got banned for "offensive name" literally 2 weeks ago. And they dont even play online games very often... So ya.
