Should bungie move away from pvp?

Question in the title follows. Here's my reason for voting yes, pvp has been nothing but the source of all balancing issues in the entire game. The only nerfs made in terms of pve were the gjallarhorn and the black hammer. Furthermore, the crucible is something that does not fit the overall goal for this franchise. It is designed to be a cooperative story telling experience, bringing players together. And look at what this community is like, so hateful and toxic and why? Because of pvp. It's caused players to hate one another purely because of what class they use, and there is hardly any friendly interaction. pvp has caused this toxic community. Final note, crucible is getting too much attention for something that is only supposed to be a side activity. Think of how much development and progress that could have been made if bungie didn't have to cater to pvp junkies? Td;rl: this game is becoming too pvp oriented, it needs to stop.

  • Unfortunately I think pvp will be a lot more relevant for bungie in destiny 2. Bungie knows theirs more viewership on a daily basis for pvp on twitch. Raids and endgame pve stuff generally only get love on reset days and that's not often enough. Sadly this game is gonna always cater to the pvp crowd.

  • Should be separate, PvP every one should be the same, same weapons to everyone no supers, no classes.

See, Destiny could of done so much with PvE content it's not funny. Different events each week with different bosses, etc. like the first queen event. Once that event happened i thought Destiny was going to have monthly pve events. But no… Crucible takes up about 40% of Destiny's content and PvE is about 60%. Those numbers should be like 80% PvE and 20% Crucible, maybe even lower. I'm not saying lets cut PvP content keep all the things PvP has going for it but add in weekly PvE events, and weekly PvE mega bounties/quests. Like kill 1000 cabal faction members, 100 major cabal members/yellow health, and kill all the named cabal creatures in the game and you have until reset to do it.

      • Completely remove arena based PVP and replace it with a larger scale PVP like Warzone in Halo 5 or Titanfall. Players could be battling it out in neutral zones based on factions, and all of the sudden a world event /boss would pop that would require the cooperation of the enemy team to win and receive awesome drops.

pvp has caused this toxic community
Toxicity in this community is due to PEOPLE in BOTH PVP AND PVE. Our feedback, insults, elitist and entitled ways is what makes this community the way it is You brought forth great examples in PVP, yet PVE has great examples as well. This game is about getting the best loot and the best rolls on a weapon. The highest light level. So in turn, players are going to want a great team, to help them get through PVE content, fast, easy, and consistently. This caused a rift (haha) Players have requirement. Granted we are allowed that, but some are uneccessarily high at times due to the desire of wanting to get finished fast and easy. Human selfisness came to the forums (ie "if you dont have (insert weapon/light level) you can join MY fireteam!"...."I will kick you if you don't (insert requirement)" We can not come together if we can not think about anyone else other than ourselves. That is a difficult thing to do, Gamers...people in general....have a tendency to be competitive..... How can Bungie/Activision feed that need for competition?................... ....................................... ....................................... ...........................PVP. I do agree that PVE needs more consistency, but lets not blame it all on PVP. Blame it on Humans....humans suck...

      • pvp is completely broken in destiny. I do like pvp and i normally do quite well. but the lack of servers and red bar scumbags. its broken.

      • My initial thought was no way but upon reading your reasons it's hard to deny that PVP has become the salt mines. Also when you think about what could be if all their attention was devoted to PVE. The "content drought" could have been solved. I do see the argument that the game might not have lasted as long or held as many players. I wish they had kept pvp a side activity and devoted more time and energy to pve. They seem to make most of their decisions based on player data though so maybe PVP was more popular and I'm the minority.

      • I don't think they should move away from it, but I think they need to sit back and find out what the real problem is. I'm a casual player like many other I don't have loads of time to play the game so raids are usually out of the question for me. So jumping on to play some pvp iron banner or whatever else I can do to feel like I'm having a challenge is fun when I get the chance. They aren't going to be able to make any meaningful changes for the betterment of the game if they keep approaching the issues they way they are. They are to quick to implement something and not take their time to really check there work I think that's why this game has the issues it does. I would be alot more satisfied if they came out and said look we know there are issues and things aren't the best but making real meaningful changes to the game take time and we can't respond to every single tiny issue without really investigating because it will cause more problems just be patient and when we are able to make a legit fix we will but no sense in breaking the game every other week until we do.

        • It isn't PvP that has created a toxic community. It's the humourless soulless bastards who make up the community that have made a toxic community. Crucible isn't supposed to be a "side activity". The Crucible is (lore wise) a mainstay of the Tower, and Crucible USED to be the only way to obtain the marks that you needed to purchase items from the vast majority of vendors. (If you remember back when only the Vanguard took Vanguard marks, but ALL the factions, plus Shaxx took Crucible marks). This is not a side activity. It is a core part of the game concept and frankly it's a heck of a lot more challenging than any PvE. I don't know where it is that you are getting your ideas from about "cooperative story telling experiences" and all that hipster nonsense, but as far as I can tell Destiny is a shooting things in the head simulator, and the hardest things to effectively shoot in the head are unpredictable humans. The fact that the Crucible is actually well worked into the story, that the story has a lore element that explains how we are able to respawn - it's actually one of the better implementations of PvP across videogame history.

        • No instead they should make pvp and pve seperate. Pvp should have its own weapons that cant be used in pve and vice versa, they shouldnt overlap in anyway. Its too late to get rid of it completely, they wouldnt have had it if they didnt want it at all but seperating pvp and pve might be a better way to go.

        • I love both PVE and PVP in this game, why remove something that people enjoy. Bungie needs to change the way they balance PVP and make changes, but the answer is not to remove it. Even if they solely focused on PVE there still would not be enough content to keep players interested. PVE content takes them alot longer to design. Think about how much work must go into designing a raid, even a strike compared to adding a crucible map. They wouldnt be able to pop one out every month to keep players interested. Plus half the fun in doing PVE activities is getting the weapons to try out in PVP(and vise versa).

            • Fps and pvp go hand in hand Personally I think bungie needs to separate the two. Only allow certain stuff in pvp purchasable through lord shaxx himself

            • raids cause plenty of hostility and that's not pvp, I think this is just your opinion and not entirely factual. I agree on class hating, it is getting out if hand.

            • Pvp is horrible. The only reason they log into the crucible is because there is no content pve.

            • But you have one levelled up pve character? How about you let the people who play this game a lot more than you throw their weight around. Yeah pvp gives me the shits sometimes. But I doubt I'd play this game if it was one or the other. This game has everything I'm looking for and even though it can be buggy as all hell, I haven't loved a game this much since Wonderboy in Monsterland on Sega Master System.

            • To all those saying PVP is keeping this game alive; if Bungie didn't have to constantly balance and rebalance this game for the sweaties, they'd have plenty of time to make enough content to keep the PVE players happy. This game would be twice the game it is without PVP....
