Nope I don't believe that, he was fully prepared to fight and kill him.
I believe he wanted someone to kill him, but he wasn't going to give it up easily. He thought Jaren ward could do it but he didn't so he set up shin who succeeded where Jaren couldn't

It literally states in the Grimoire that Yor waits for Shin to grow up, then let's Shin find him unarmed, and lets him kill him

He wasn't unarmed. They were about to have a duel, fastest finger kill like the old west. Shin was faster and deadlier though because he used golden gun, which before him was never used. Which is why the last word is modeled after it. He literally invented it.
