One thing though.
How the HELL are you supposed to counter Bastion?
Great question, I’d love to know myself. The closest thing to advice I’ve gotten is listen for the charge, don’t get close, don’t get baited. Pretty meh counters as that’s just common sense, I’d say your best bet is to play range and constantly disengage because most bastion players just play aggressive and run towards you. This is about as helpful as “just jump” when mountaintop reigned so I know it’s not much help. I’ll admit only one out of three burst shots securing a kill is cheesy, but I don’t see it going anywhere anytime soon sadly. Some people have taken this post as me defending the meta, but it’s more pointed towards those who’d rather whine about it and salt post and make excuses when they lose to it. Even trying and failing is better than the “I’m on the moral high ground because I use statistically worse gear instead of the meta and lose therefore the meta should be nerfed to make it fair” mindset. If people wanted Destiny balanced we’d have had set loadouts and abilities years ago.

Fusion rifles are hard countered by sniper rifles, and weak to range.

Thank you! I’d imagine a good scout would be a less effective backup but the only issue is very few areas of the map offer those lanes or the openness for that to be effective. Most maps are designed to force close range engagements so if anything I guess it takes practice in learning your lanes and not getting boxed in.

Cyclical imbalance is absolutely at play. Whatever weapon you choose to use, you will have your hard counters and your weaknesses. It’s important to know what they are, and learn to play around them. Because if you master the situations where you’re at a disadvantage, suddenly you become god and nothing can touch you. For a very long time I was a sniper in destiny, I hear often that the maps don’t have good lanes, etc. But when you actually have a sniper in your hands, you’ll see the maps differently. There’s lanes everywhere. Even on that silly tunnel map with the spiny wall. I actually love sniping on that map. My point is, find what you’re good at, figure out what counters it, and learn how best to mitigate that weakness. You don’t need help winning fights where you already have the advantage. :)

Thank you for the advice, I actually just started learning shotguns and am at about the same skill level with sniping as I usually run a fusion. It’s nice to learn some tricks from someone who knows their stuff.

Shotguns are an absolute treat in this game. In something like CSGO they are extremely situational because that game is mostly comprised of serious fps players. Destiny is not. That’s one thing Snipers and shotguns have in common, they both counter the CRAP out of the casual player. They both also demand an extremely intimate knowledge of the map. You never asked for advice, but I will throw this one little tidbit at you, when it comes to using a situational weapon like a sniper or a shotgun, what ultimately will define you as a player more than them, is your back up weapon. Me personally, I would either support my sniper with a side arm or a scout, the scout so I could keep sniping with no special ammo, and the sidearm for when I got sprung. It’ll dramatically change how you play the maps, and is worth a decent amount of consideration :) OKAY enough unsolicited advice haha, good luck friend :)

But what if you're a floaty warlock that goes to enemies?

Then you’re exactly like me and I feel for you 😂
