I was playing with one of my friends the other day who hasn't played in a long time, and while we were playing he was inspecting his gear looked over at the infusion option and said "what's an enhancement core?"
I have sincere worries about bringing new players into D2 when the year 1 content becomes free to play. It will be hard to have a new player who was curious, but not necessarily interested in the series to keep playing when they have to abandon a cool weapon because they won't have the resources to upgrade that weapon's attack power.
Yes they do have avenues to obtain cores in the form of masterworked leviathan gear, gunsmith bounties, and a rare chance from dismantling weapons. But 2 of those 3 avenues require a player to want to play the game enough to go down those routes...
My point is even though some of us (including me) have plenty of cores, they could be a turn off for new players come September.
TL:DR New players good. Cores bad.
Edit: I made this post because my entire friends list had said that they will play this game when it becomes free to play but one of my friends who played this game became disappointed BECAUSE he had to leave his favorite guns behind practically every 5 power levels. He hasn't played the game since he mentioned it. And another friend quit because his 2 favorite year 2 weapons require cores he doesn't have. So I know that this topic will be a determining factor into their interest in playing this game.
I know that my friends would enjoy this game, but I don't want them to have this steep price to play how you want. Especially when they play other games that don't demand steep sacrifices early-ish in their time playing.
And I AM NOT calling for enhancement cores to be removed, they are simply just a steep asking price for newer players (who would only have 2 or 3 free methods to obtain them) to use their favorite gear. And for those saying they make using gear a meaningful choice. Yes they do kind of. They flow like water for people who know how to farm them and play the game a good amount already and are as scarce as copper for new players. Yes I understand it won't be a problem for them in TIME. But that's way after their first impression has settled.
If there was a workaround to where newer players could not be turned off while still providing a meaningful choice for infusion I believe many players would be satisfied. (Perhaps reducing the core cost to 1 or 2 while doubling, tripling, or even quadrupling the glimmer cost since that would still limit infusions but make infusion more pertinent to time invested rather than luck.)

Изменено (Cyber-fox88): 6/24/2019 12:26:07 AMbecause of destiny 2s bad rng and enhancement core infusion problem i stopped playing destiny 2 altogether as a resault. haven't touched destiny 2 for about a month now and couldn't be happier i left the hamster wheel that is destiny 2 and enjoying myself as i play other games. i still have destiny 2 installed but waiting to see what changes in the dlc which i will not buy unless they remove enhancement cores from infusion like ski0723 said below bungie is a greedy game componey that really doesn't care about there players any negative feedback they get is removed and they keep only positive feedback. in the end they want people to play it there way or not at all.
-
If you masterwork a weapon or a piece of armor, you shouldn't need enhancement cores anymore for that item. Infusion should increase the infused gears masterwork level by 1 each infusion into that item
-
Yup.... but let’s have Bungie learn this the hard way
-
They are fine for master working. Should be removed from infusion, shards seem fine for that, maybe cores to infuse exotics, hmm wasnt that kinda how di was with exotic shards? I dont remember..

Изменено (TheOtherGuy): 6/24/2019 7:46:05 AMI dont care. And i bet cores will be buyable in eververse by then. And i dont care about that either.

Изменено (Zen): 6/24/2019 12:35:34 AMYou can get 9 a day now, guaranteed, though. And it takes all of 30 minutes total. An even 10 if you spend 10 Legendary Shards at Spider. That said, in 2 day's time, roughly an hour's worth of work (provided New Light players have guns, that in turn have bullets), they can have enough to masterwork any weapon, or do multiple infusions. So, Cores are only going to hurt LAZY New Light players. Not all of 'em. And honestly, it sounds like your friends that don't know what a Core is, or want to put time into getting them, aren't people you'd want playing Destiny anyway... the lazy, the undedicated, the ill-informed, etc.
-
If your friend has to quit because they can't get literally 6 cores to infuse 2 weapons, that's a bit ridiculous. New Light players won't be able to access the Tangled Shore and therefore can't buy cores from Spider, but they can still do the gunsmith bounties. And the gunsmith bounties are completed by just playing the game, and if that's too much for them, then Idk why they want to play destiny or care about power level enough to infuse that gear in the first place.
-
Everyone just needs to stop using enhancement cores when getting to the new power level cap. Once you get to max light then infuse your high power gear into what you like. That way you only have to infuse once.
-
Rubbish! So many ways to obtain cores, if you are smart you can do multiple bounties to save time.
-
I made an alternate account I have absolutely no issues leveling up
-
Yeah they should give new players a big bundle when they defeat Ghaul or something
-
I guess they should’ve been like the rest of us and payed for the year 1 and 2 experience. Sure it was a bumpy road, but it had its moments. I quit for a few month because of work and came back and was just fine. There are going to be a lot of newbies come in, but if they were actual Destiny fans, they would have the game by now. They will be introduced to the franchise when it’s free to play, but they won’t experience what we have.

That shit is at ZERO for a while now. On the other hand, they force those don’t like Gambit to do bounties, some would just quit matches when their bounties are done. They don’t give shit about Bungie’s “impactful feeling”.
-
New players?! If I had to guess....I'd say enhancement cores are going to play a role in the new Transmog system. Prepare for pain!
-
I'd guess that the in game economy will be reworked with the new update. Community has been super vocal about cores for a while.
-
For the love of god, they are so easy to get.
-
Its stepping into full on MMO type area according to Bungie. Its not going to get any easier. And there are still more changes to be announced as the season of Opulence goes on.
-
How about adding an option to trade in Vanguard and crucible tokens for enhancement cores? Like 100 tokens for 1-2 cores? Everyone has access to strikes and crucible. Everyone wants more rewards from crucible and strikes. Everyone will be happy.
-
Most new players jumping into new light for free will simply get to the point the game asks for cores for enhancing their favourite weapon, at which point they will simply shrug, have no idea what those are let alone how to get them, and give up.
-
Wait.... Aren't they boosting players up to 700 or 750? They shouldn't have any issue with cores if that's the case
-
While I will never defend Bungie or cores, but this argument about new players is not valid anymore. The reason why you and I have cores is because we grind a lot and cores come naturally from bounties and dismantle (10% dismantle for me). New players will need to grind and now more than ever there are guaranteed bounties which are easier. For example, banshee bounty has precision kills or arc kills requirement which doesn't even require you to do anything extra. I can understand the logic but this is not an excuse for new players. Also, like others have said, if you are really desperate as a new player and don't have patience for core farming then pay eververse.
-
I cant share the same opinion with you. You have a source of spider bounties and now Banshee that offers 3 daily. Most of the items I have seen cost you 3 cores to infuse it has gotten way easier to acquire them. Maybe just add one daily for vanguard and crucible but it has been easier to obtain. At this point I do not see how new players can catch on with much difficulty.
-
These really aren't hard to get now. There are plenty of ways to earn them. I'm not too worried.
-
Enhancement cores are really easy to get so no need to remove them. D2 is known for being a grinding game so if you're not willing to put some time to get the Ec then maybe D2 isn't your game. I'm almost max rank (748) and still have over 150 EC left.

enhancement cores are fine. im a returning season 1 player amd destiny 1 vet. i have leveled from 290 to 715 in one week. dailys and weeklys give you enough
