First of all I would like to congratulate on bungie on making an addicting game that has solid fun to be had. The game is fun, no denying that. But this is the kind of game where the juicy steak is marred by a lack of seasoning or side dish. It just feels incomplete. Lets start with the pros of destiny-
PROS OF DESTINY
-The gameplay mechanics are solid. Feels like a combination of halo and a more modern shooter. The glide and jump mechanics give it a level of movement that is quite fun to utilize. Guns dont kill too fast and make battle feel much more engaging and tension filled. In pvp this sorta of applies as well.
-The environments and armor and overall art is 10/10. The armor, ado not as many variations as expected, are very detailed and seem to tell a story in their style. Weapons are this way as well, ado there is a major problem with them i will go into later on.
-The grimoire and anything written in text in the game adds so much interesting lore and mystery to the game world. Some firearm names are hilarious, and the stories seem epic behind some of the exotic gear and weapons. Lore here in this game is actually very strong.
-Very addicting. This game gets its hooks into you and does not let it go. It can be ridiculously repetitive sometimes, but even the critics who hate this game cant put it down.
-Pve And pvp are both balanced to an extent. pve is not too hard, except for the nightfall strikes which you will have to use some cheap tactic to defeat in most cases for most people. PvP is fine, balanced pretty well and everything seems to have a purpose and role to play both class and weapon wise. Very fun pvp which is rare for a game with so many activities(not content, lets be clear) to master pvp that way. Experience with halo shows here. .
-The little details are there. The point that you can slowly press the trigger on the controller to cock back the hammer on revolvers, is nice. The amount of detail in the game is just awesome.
-Strikes are fun, at least in the initial couple of times you do them. Well designed, and I think for the most part, this is the best pve content aside from the raid.
-The choice of weaponry is nice. Not great or as varied as they make you believe, but its functional. The exotics definitely blow everything else out of the water, but good luck getting one.
-The social aspect of the game is there. Had a guy wave me over for a chest, have started dance parties in the tower, and definitely had alot of fun with those four emotes. just wish 1. mapped to one button and 2. a ton more emotes should exist. seems kinda of like shooting your unique aspect of social features in the foot.
-Music. Oh god the music almost doesn't fit the battle at times. So epic. You guys do music right.
-The game is fun to play with your friends. Co-op is strong here and alot of features lend to it pretty well ado with some strange design choices.
-All three classes do play some interesting roles and mesh well together. They compliment each other well and the support-like sub-classes play a vital role (think defender with that bubble. Dont lie, its godly when you are getting bombarded) in harder pve content and more complex pvp game modes like control.
-The game world is very large. Wish there were things to actually explore besides just killing literally everything. Seems to be a strange use of such beautiful environments when you do use that beautiful space in creative ways(at least not yet)
Now Here are the cons of destiny. It just hurts me to see some of these. It 's like there was no long term play-testing with more serious players. CONS OF DESTINY
-The loot system needs work. It reminds of diablo 3 at launch, Where some people thought legendaries didn't even exist. A legendary engram drops rarely, and blue is semi rare as well, and they have a chance of being green in the blue engrams that seems to be quite high. The legendary engrams have a chance of being green as well, which considering the drop rate, is just evil. Not only that, they have a chance to be blue or legendary for the class YOU ARE NOT USING. The chance of this happening seems to be higher then the chance of you getting something useful out of it. This shouldn't be. In a game where gear progression is the ONLY way to even level your character, the amount of work spend to even get semi useful can be mind numbing. Thank god for the ability to buy legendary gear through vanguard rep or crucible rep. The crypt -arch could not exist in our realm, for the amount of destruction and curses wished upon him would tear his soul upon entry.
-Why is there a limit on vanguard marks? and crucible marks ? There is no other explanation then to artificially pad the length of your game.
- The amount of vanguard marks you get for the playlist is a little low. should be around 8-10 for the lvl 24 strikes, with at least 150 rep per strike. Running three patrols nets me more vanguard rep and makes no sense consider a strike is more difficult.
-6 strikes. 10 hour story. I cannot comprehend how you could introduce your flagship franchise after so much work with so little content. I know what most people are saying. Ten year plan prologue yada yada yada. They will probably be releasing a game every two years that carries over your character . Lets be honest, noone is making a huge game on the level of a mmo ( which this isn't) without f2p paywall and such or a sub fee. This game will be updated, and treated alot (hopefully) like warframe, with major content updates and activities and features until the launch of the 2.0 and such. regarding all this, why is the story sequel baiting and feels so weak and underwhelming compared to literally everything else? the delivery device for the lore is great, but most people cant even begin to get into the lore if there is no great story to tie them together. Seriously missed opportunities to introduce this game in a way that even the harshest game critic would bow down to as a masterpiece. I have faith you guys wont disappoint like this again. On the point of the strikes, there are way too few. there should have been around 8-10 around launch, to hold players together until the expansion or free dlc(ha) you would throw our way. Right now, It makes the game feel tedious to have such little amount of pve content to go through. Especially when the "end" game is ONE raid and a bunch of high level versions of the same content we have played through time and time again. The raid is epic and congrats on making a piece of content that represents how EVERY shrike should have been. The way the raid works, should have been set on a smaller scale for the strikes.
-The weapons. I really wish that every loot based game didn't do this. samey feeling guns everywhere. The scout rifles essentially all have the magazine set in a bull-pup configuration, make the same sound when firing, have the same three or four types of optics, and reload the exact same way. Why does every weapon that feel truly unique be a exotic? when most people might not even get one? The auto rifles dont all have to have that halo1 esque bulky look! they could have been one that loads from the top or even a scout rifle looking one with the back magazine or a bullpup one with a straight magazine. shotguns feel so similar I can hardly tell the difference.Change around some reload animations, add some more unique sounds(more a suggestion then something you could patch),and make weapons feel more unique and you will elevate the game. It makes legendaries not feel so legendary and doesn't help feel my character feel unique. The only exception to this are the exotics, but the crypt-arch has those all stuffed away in his stash for when agent of the nine pops up and sells them.
-Fire-teams. This one is an easy fix. the people want four, give them four. It makes little sense to limit them to three, when you can up the health enemies have to make sure its difficult enough if need be. Strange choice here.
-Rewards for completing content to my level seem nonexistent for the most part. Why not give a random blue engram for completing a heroic version of the story mission at my level? Why am I doing anything on a more difficult level to not get rewarded for it? I dont want handouts, but everyone would love to be rewarded for completing difficult content some of the time, not just on ONE run of the heroic strike or nightfall strike. Vanguard strikes are the exception to this and are actually not bad in rewards but still a little light for the amount of time and work involved.
-No global or world chat to group up. If I have to exit the game to find people to play difficult content with, in 2014, there is something wrong with the game. a simple chat could help loads with this.
- The leveling system essentially stalls around 24 to 26 due to the amount of strikes/crucible match's you would have to go through to get past 24. Drops are not common in this game, and this is the biggest weakness of a gear based leveling system(which i think starts WAY too early it should have taken me at least a week and a half to start this massive repetitive grind for gear). There should have been far more levels, and when you say the game "starts" at level 20, its nice to say that, but when all I have is No actual new content and the same content but harder, It leaves a real bad taste in your mouth. The gear based leveling system just doesn't hold up well when you dont have alot of content to go through. Would have been way better off with a level 30-40 level cap, much slower exp gain past 20, and start a gear based system to get to 50. Would have allowed you to actually have legendaries in between 20 and 40 instead of now where all gear that is good is usable at level 20.I had alot more to write but ran out of space.
