I am forced to use verizon LTE for my home internet due to cable lines ending about a mile away from my house. My current plan is 18gb a month that I share with my brother and we have been able to make it last for our gaming habits.
What surprised me with destiny is the outrageous amount of data this game uses each hour. I can use half a gig from a 3 hour session while not using voice chat and not playing in the crucible. I have never seen a video game use anywhere near this. COD is less than 100mb/h, League of Legends is around 50mb/h. MMO's don't use much data either so whats the deal with this game?
Any explanations on what causes this or perhaps some hope that the data usage can be lowered or optimized via a patch would be greatly appreciated. I don't want people who have limited data plans to not be able to play destiny for a decent amount of time every month.

1 ReplyI heard rumors that the reason why is because you have to constantly download the textures geometry of armor and guns constantly, its -blam!-ing stupid, Idk what genius thought that was a smart move, the info could be stored on the cache or something, its insane

While not 100% sure, I would theorize that a lot of your usage would be due to Destiny connecting to both PSN/XBL and Bungie servers at the same time. Your console is basically talking to two different servers one to verify your account status and the other to play the game. Again just a theory.

2 RepliesI'm not sure as I have unlimited fiber broadband, but you could switch off your 3D character model in the phone app, mess around with the settings to try limit the data.
