Because I need to know how to pick a lock. Describe it in a sentence or two.
It's for a fantasy story.

Well, simply put you need to have some thing thin and long that fits into a keyhole (mayb ur penor) and then try to kind if wiggle it up to push the pins up that are holding the lock. Once the pins are up, you open the handle as quickly as possible.

Find Leather Bracers of Eminent Lockpicking and a Philter of Lockpicking. Drink the potion, then put on the bracers.

Basically just take your picks and put them in the lock, then twist the pick and try turning the lock but stop and readjust the pick if you meet resistance. Level 100 lockpicking skill here.

4 RepliesI taught myself how to do it so I don't know any of the the technical terms to use when describing it, which is what I assume you're looking for.

Edited by Flee: 5/31/2014 4:18:24 PMThe way most locks work is by using pins of different lengths, or pins of equal lengths held in different places by springs. In their default position, they are all at different heights as opposed to the cylinder, therefore preventing the lock from opening. By slipping in the key, which has ridges on it, you push all of the pins upwards by a different amount so that they're all in line and allow you to turn the key to open the lock. By lockpicking, you are basically moving the pins without using the key. You press the pin upwards by using a lockpick until it falls into place and "clicks". Do so for every pin and there you go, lock's open.

Take a hammer or a heavy and blunt object and just smash down on the door knob. It'll open the lock, but you're going to need a new doorknob. Use as a last resort. For makeshift, use a paperclip. Depending on the lock (I've locked myself out of my own room so many times, lol), you can either have an easy time, or a hard time, As for actual lockpicking, I'd say to get someone trained professionally to do so.

1 ReplyLockpicking is fairly easy to learn through practice, but if you want to learn quick, I'd recommend seeing a trainer.
