I like my girl's reactions to romantic things I do for her. I don't find enjoyment in the romantic acts themselves; giving her flowers doesn't make me feel all happy inside or whatever, but seeing the smile it puts on her face does. But you don't want to be too romantic. I save it mostly for special occasions, and then every now and then I'll surprise her with something on a random day (like a bowl of chocolate-covered strawberries when she comes round to watch a movie or whatever) just to keep things fresh. Most of the time I mockingly tease her, don't get all up in her space, I'm sparing with empty compliments (I never say 'morning beautiful or any of that shit) and don't make her think that I totally need her in my life. But every now and down I'll make a romantic gesture which keeps that shit in balance. It's that balance between romance and... I don't want to say treating a girl badly because that's not right, but more that you shouldn't be a chivalrous white knight. Be a bit aloof, don't open yourself totally to her, have your own interests, don't let her become the centre of your world. You keep those in balance and it keeps the relationship healthy imo. Don't be a white knight, but certainly don't be a black knight either. Perpetuates an element of mystery, the romance doesn't become stale/repetitive, she won't become overly content/secure in what you have. That goes for both people in the couple. Life isn't a -blam!-ing Disney movie, and relationships are certainly not.
