Edit: Added another bullet point about a Lethal Current/Tempest Strike interaction.
If this has been discussed elsewhere already, I apologize, but otherwise on to it....
Liar's Handshake has been in need of fixing essentially since its original release. To start, the description doesn't make sense for what the exotic actually does. The description reads:
"Using your Arc melee ability or being hit by a melee attack will allow you to follow up with an extremely powerful melee counterpunch that will heal you."
This implies that using your charged Arc melee ability, not the neutral uncharged melee ability, procs the exotic in addition to being attacked first. What it should say is:
"Using a melee or being hit by a melee attack while on an Arc subclass will allow you to follow up with an extremely powerful melee counterpunch that will heal you."
Going further, now with the introduction of Arc 3.0, the interaction with Liar's Handshake and the new Arc kit is even more bugged and inconsistent. For clarity:
1) Cross Counter does not activate when meleed by an enemy if Gathering Storm is equipped as your super.
2) If the Lethal Current Aspect is equipped, Cross Counter will not activate after using your melee ability until several seconds after the Lethal Current buff has expired, which equates to punching an enemy 3 or 4 times before Cross Counter finally procs.
3) It may be intended, but a boss stomp does not count as a melee attack against you.
4) Cross Counter no longer procs on Tempest Strike
5) If Lethal Current is not equipped in the context you choose Tempest Strike instead, you also lose the ability to do additional damage in your Arc Staff super.
Because of the above issues, it creates very awkward build mechanics where you're essentially pigeon-holed into a very restricted loadout. You can't use Gathering Storm if you want to use Liar's Handshake to its full effectiveness because you can no longer counter attack when attacked first and you can't use Lethal Current if you want to use Cross Counter consistently. If you take off Lethal Current and use Tempest Strike instead, Cross Counter won't work after performing Tempest Strike in addition to losing the added damage that Lethal Current provides to the Arc Staff super.
I've loved the idea of this exotic from the very beginning. Combination blow has always been one of my favorite ways to play with fluidly dodging around opponents and following it up with an attack. This is made even better by the add clear potential of Lethal Current's aftershock. Lethal Current does confound one other part of this overall flow though in that if Lethal Current's aftershock kills the enemy instead of the actual melee, Combination Blow does not trigger or go up in stacks.
So again, just to reiterate, Liar's Handshake needs some love and the way Lethal Current works with Combination Blow also probably needs to be looked at.

3 RepliesCan I revive this post?

this has been discussed a few times but continuing to put it on the radar can't hurt especially when they have said nothing at all about it.
-
Bump again.
-
I would surely start playing more actively again if Liars Handshake would work better/get fixed with the Arc 3.0 changes I main a hunter and I was excited for this exotic. Only to find out it worked better with the old Arc system Great job on fixing resilience and GL's Bungie. And Vortex Nades. Please I ask of you humbly to maybe get this done within a few weeks. Punching things is fun and hunter Arc builds are very limited atm

Bump times three.

It would also be cool if it worked on Revenant

1 Replythe whole time I thought it was me. thanks OP

It’s really broken on prophecy. Running that load out will soft lock you on the echo phalanx.

1 ReplyPure lie!

5 RepliesI find it a bit odd that it wasn't caught by Bungie pre release as they had someone on their team playing with both Gathering Storm as well as Liar's when showcasing the new Arc 3.0 classes. Like, if it was caught but too late for the initial ship that's one thing as they could just tell us that the fix will be coming soon. But afaik Bungie hasn't even acknowledged it yet. Which is worrysome.

5 RepliesBump 👍 I’d love to use Liar’s Handshake but I’m probably doing myself a disservice by doing so since it’s not at all working as intended. Any Hunter mains out there who have suggestions on what exotic to run in its place while running Arc subclass in PvE activities?
-
Literally the only exotic I was looking for wit with arc 3.0 so hope it gets looked at
-
This is spot on.
-
Absolutely. It's all over the place, especially since arc 3.0. It doesn't proc sometimes, when you use the new ability it doesn't count the combination blow x1 sometimes, and sometimes it just doesn't count as melee hit at all. You dodge and hit, you kill an enemy but it doesn't count as melee kill, and you don't get the dodge back. It's so weird and frustrating.

Great post
-
Agreed. They need to do something to help the new Titan exotic also. The thing is just depressingly bad.
-
I don’t play hunter but they should fix that bump

1 ReplyKnockout has a somewhat similar issue. If you kill the enemy you melee depending on their HP threshold...it won't activate knockout. So there will be times where you basically have to shoot the enemy with your primary just to activate it, even though it more than went over the threshold in pve. In pvp as well, despite meleeing a target to proc knockout and the targets shield being broken...(which is in the description of the perk) it won't activate. This has been the behavior of knockout since they nerfed it to not refresh on kill months ago which really can get in the way of it's consistency.

Bump.

Edited by MONKEYBUSINE5S: 9/2/2022 3:39:20 PMCompletely agreed, there's something off and would love to see them fixed. It's rough because when you have a high risk/high reward build and this health bump is inconsistent, that risk goes way up.

This deserves a bump. Here you are, sir. Also, combination blow should work with tempest strike imo. I do think the cooldown change was valid, but the inability to use combination blow as it's description says (temporarily increases your melee damage) with tempest strike is a bit sad. This means that tempest strike isn't a melee under specific circumstances that the game does not inform you about. Not a fan of that.
-
Yeah, I've been using Liar's handshake for a while, and while it can me quite busted this season, it's only good in specific circumstances (or in crucible). One of my favorite exotics, and I can barely use half the kit...
-
3 Repliesdon't count on it, knowing bungie they will just change the description and leave the bug as is.

1 ReplyThis really needs more attention.
