I don't know what I want to do. Everything in the game has some sort of reason against me wanting to play it. Most of the time it's simply because of stale gameplay mixed with a lack of incentive and almost nothing as reward for doing it.
I'll try to break down my thoughts for and against all the activities I can think of.
As a rule of thumb, I won't include any activities that pretty much require gathering a party because often times I don't want to put forth the effort of doing so. Sometimes I just want to get on and play on my own terms and schedule. Is there anything wrong with that?
Another rule of thumb is that Legend or higher difficulty can be fun, but often restricts me from playing how I want to play, forcing me to play a loadout or build that I'm not really feeling just to deal with the modifiers.
Vanguard
Well, 1 skilled guardian going on a power trip can be overkill for a normal strike, so forcing 3 of them in a group can be so much overkill that it saps any and all fun out of the activity. The 3 keep tripping over each other and can't allow one another to build up any momentum or fun. I literally can't enjoy playing normal strikes because of this.
Nightfalls? Well, Heroic can be almost challenging at times when I'm testing a sub-optimal build. However, due to the slight trickle of new strikes over the years, they've just become super stale. Having to do "x" strike again for the 372nd time over the last 5 years gets a bit old.
I've thought of some things I'd love to see to improve this, but I'll put it in its own thread.
Crucible
I can still get on and have fun playing some Crucible. However, the PvP and PvE sandboxes are very different, so if I'm in the mood for PvE content, then Crucible is not what I'm wanting.
Gambit
Lol
Honestly, though. Gambit has potential. I have found myself legitimately having fun in this game mode before, but it's just far too susceptible to random bs that can ruin my fun. I can't recommend and I don't enjoy this game mode because of that.
Seasonal Activities
Some seasonal activities have been pretty fun. However, the lack of rewards and "throw-away design" mixed with the incentive to grind them until they induce nausea turns me off entirely from wanting to do them just for fun.
Dungeons
Dungeons can be pretty fun, but sometimes they're just a bit too challenging to be an enjoyable experience. The bosses often are intended to take multiple damage phases for even a group of 3, so someone who isn't using any certain powerful dps build and just wants to play how they want may find themselves having to deal with 9 or more damage over over 30 minutes during a single boss and that is a big turnoff for me wanting to solo it.
Don't take this as a request to make them easier, they should stay hard. This is just my reasoning for why I don't often try to conquer them solo.
Other Stuff
Patrols? hahaha, they've barely been changed since the game released and are just a waste of time. they offer almost no rewards and are the most stale activity in the game.
DoE? Had to grind over 100 during their first season to get the exotic thingy since I don't like doing the same thing long enough to keep my streak high. Expecting 100+ completions of any activity over the course of a season is absurd and it's caused severe burnout for me towards DoE.
I'm sure I'm forgetting something, and if I'm forgetting it, it must mean that I don't care enough about it. Probably some stuff that has no incentive to do, yet induced burnout when it was relevant.
What would I like to do? Well, I'd love to go on a power trip. I'd love to make a build and have some good range to really test it out. That sounds so fun to me. Unfortunately, patrols don't have high enough enemy density and just feel like a waste of time and everything else either has matchmaking or essentially limits your loadout in some way, which defeats the purpose of wanting to try things out. The game's difficulty goes from 0 to 1 then suddenly jumps to 8, 9, and 10. I'd love to play something at about a 3 to 5, like Legend difficulty, but without match game or champions.

1 ReplyI wanted to grind for the bxr to be able to craft it but mindlessly running the same exact mode over and over to get keys and then having the keys give me the weapons based on RNG just makes me not want to bother. I just don’t enjoy grinding this game anymore, something about D1 grind felt better at the time because it felt fresh and new. Im at a point where I just don’t care anymore, I just want to focus on trying the new stuff instead of having to constantly focus on build crafting and RNG loot. I rather get the deep sight weapons once and then start the crafting process because that in itself is an absurd grind. Destiny has sort of lost its magic and I don’t think its going to get better

I agree with a lot of your points. Strikes should be 1-3 man. Should be able to go in solo with difficulty toggles for better rewards etc with highest setting a chance to reward exotics etc. Each strike should also have strike specific loot. An ornament set for your armor and some specific guns related to the strike by design. I love dungeons. I don’t raid anymore bcos 6 players for me is just too much going on but dungeons hit a sweet spot of light mechanics with decent loot each with their own exotic. I really enjoy them.

Honestly, legendary campaign. I just wish there was more than the current witch queen. Lightfall is supposed to have one a well but that's going to be a good wait.

I got some advice for you. Be more social and have some fun with others or play a solo game. Solo games are really fun and arguably better in their own rights. I mean destiny is just not the game you’re describing rn.

2 RepliesA well thought out and presented post. I certainly appreciate where you’re coming from. Maybe the problem isn’t the game but that you are suffering Gamer Fatigue? Take a break from D2. I sat out for 8 months and it was the best thing I ever did in the game. All the best

Destiny is an easy game to burnout on Right now I’m playing apex, halo, and solo games Destiny doesn’t offer much, and pvp is terrible this season
-
Sounds like you’re just burnt out on Destiny at the moment.

I've recently stumbled on https://strike.report/xb/4611686018445736976 and when im bored ill load up a strike or nightfall and try and get faster times on diffrent difficultys.

I wish they had an exotic mission like Presage every season. It’s not as easy as a strike or as difficult as a Dungeon, it hits the sweet spot for a casual player who still takes the game seriously and doesn’t want to hide behind a rock for twenty minutes inching their way through an activity with normal enemies that have jacked up HP.

Cant argue with any of the points you made if im honest. As another guy replied id say game burnout is a cause factor here. Also yeah, I really feel what your saying about those patrols. For me at least, i can dosome now and then for fun, but if its on Europa?... Just no. The place is so lifeless, not like in the intended way, but like just... dull.

For vanguard they need to reintroduce strike specific loot. Seasonal activities have just become a grindfest and is basically a glorified public event. Maybe by doing other activities you gain rank levels. Give more exp for DoE rank. Idk shorten it. This is just way to grindy. I actually like where dungeons are at. The only thing I'd say is for the older dungeons maybe give players more incentive to play the other phases instead of boss cp farming. Patrols and public events are a joke however maybe if they had a chance to get loot from the previous season it may be worth farming/grinding. Lost sectors imo should drop exotics more frequently. I only say this because exotics have so many stat rolls and it's so hard to get a good piece to fit in your build. So many of my builds have been ruined by a dooky exotic roll. Or they should have a chance to drop a consumable that ups the chance of a certain stat rolling on your next exotic.
