Sbmm feels bad right now for me as a solo crucible player

The last four or so games I have played all have come down to who has the better/bigger stack of players. As a solo player i feel like it has been not fun nor rewarding overall whether I won or loss. I know it’s only a week in so I will continue to play but it feels so much worse personally than it did last season so far. Specific problems for me: the connections are sketchy, people are quitting really often, spawns are being flipped cause the stacks just camp them, and I never really feel like I contribute in a meaningful way to my team when I am on a team with a 4+ stack. I also have been finding it hard to play with non meta weapons or just trying something new. I am genuinely uninterested in playing crucible on my other characters because I know I am not as good with them but will be in the same lobbies. Also I just don’t feel like I am as good as the people in my lobbies are. It feels way more sweaty in every match I have played. Now I don’t know how other peoples experiences are overall. I hope the experience for other players have been fun overall because it’s been kinda rough for me. I don’t know if this is the right direction for the game mode in my opinion. I would rather get blown out by a solo player getting 10+ kda in a connection based Freelance every once in a while than this. From what I have heard stacks can match down if they have someone from a lower skill ladder in them. I would really look at that if it’s true. Not only would it encourage stacking (which in and of itself is not an issue because people should enjoy the game with friends but as a mainly solo player I might as well be playing d1 blindfolded half the time) it also completely defeats the purpose of the ladder in the first place. People in that upper echelon of skill should never be in my lobbies when I already am playing people around my skill level. It makes it almost impossible to have a balanced lobby. It just really exacerbates my main problem with sbmm as a concept: you have to be your best with the most meta load outs to have a shot at winning. Sorry for the essay, I just wanna give my early and honest feedback. Also sorry for the redundancy in parts.

  • Feels great for me I'm an above average KD parent who gets to play casually while my baby naps and I haven't been up against super sweats not once!!

  • I understand, it's even so difficult to impossible for me to get the SUROS Regime Catalyst. I can't go into the Vex Underworld and defeat Atheon to obtain the Vex Mythoclast. Yes I am talking about the Vault of Glass and these sweaty Tryhards make the Iron Banner into a torture fest until your mind breaks down. Seriously, just let me have the Catalyst and then I will be free from this prison.

  • Hang on a minute... Your post has done the exact opposite of your header. It has in detail why sbmm is a thing now. My experience has been positive. Last season it was an avalanche of 2/4 people per lobby with the shoulders of a man pulling a 747, as for the rest of the lobby they seen that they could one shot a dreg and thought to themselves "I got this let's pvp" In reality those people were not bad at the game, can play pvp as sbmm (at least not all of them) has proven. If you need any proof look at my kd last season 😂 vs now. I didn't get that better. I feel now that when I get killed I definitely knew it was coming. I basically play "casually" and in excess. The difference is that in sbmm I can learn, I can stomp and get stomped. However it feels that I can play with balance. Will it help me get better at useing a hand cannon, nope that's ship has sailed sunk and is growing corrals. However when I get killed it feels balanced where before it wasn't. As for the "I just want to chill and it's super comp" argument... You were probably that 747 player before, but now you realize that your not the only 747. As much as I have also seen players with internet connection from the 90s it is a far lower percent than the snowball quit fest that iron banner will become next week as control was last season. It's a hard thing to strike a balance between the full spectrum of players and I don't have the answers to it but it's clearly been well received by some and not by others. Offer ideas to fix it not complain that your perspective is better than someone else's 😂 that goes for both sides of the fence.

  • Bungie has consistently made pvp worse every season. Sbmm dosent belong in casual pvp. It belongs in competitive where the sweats live and where people have been asking for it. But they don't listen they ruin the game for casual solo players and I dread to think what it looks like for new light players. If they wanted to test out Sbmm they should have done a crucible labs thing and given people the option to play it, but no classic bungie they take away an actual decent playlist and replace it with sbmm control which is unbelievable every game in a normal casual playlist is now a sweat fest with bad connections and people leaving. Sbmm has never worked for any fps game using casual pvp it ruins the experience, and the fact that they basically forcing you to play it for seasonal activity completions just shows that the company cares less and less about the pvp community.

  • That’s how SBMM works. As you get better and start to migrate to the top of your lobbies you’ll then be put into the next tier of players there by putting you back to the bottom. Happened to me yesterday. Started strong first 3 matches 1.8 - 2.8 average. Day before it was the same. Next 5? .25 -1.3. Figured it adjusted me to the next tier. I’m ok with that.

  • It won't matter because we're in the minority. Bungie have to cater to the casual player even if that means the rest of us get reamed for eternity. The majority of my games have leavers, not because of stat padding but because people simply aren't giving fun. There's still stacks, bad maps and games you know are going to be mercy ruled in the first 30 seconds when the score difference is 40+.
