Edit, la finale: we got an official response about the state of the armor and are getting more information soon. It'd be nice if we give them some slack and then see what they have to present for further discussions.
Since the rest of the thread is not relevant with the above revelations, I've moved it into the spoiler below, but it is still accessible in its entirety for anyone interested in what was going on here.
TL;DR: Pax west leaked the Garden of Salvation raid armor for hunters, which is a reskin of a CoO Eververse armor set, instead of providing a new set of Black Garden themed armor, which we previously saw in the Shadowkeep ViDoc.
Not TL;DR:
Earlier this day, this post revealed the new Exotic trace rifle, Divinity. OP pointed out that it is found in the raid collection, meaning the armor that is found along side it, is the raid armor set for the hunter from the Garden of Salvation raid.
The issue with that being, that the armor is basically a reskin of the Curse of Osiris Omega Mechanos Eververse armor set.
Now, where is the issue with that, I hear you ask? Well, the issue is that we had a preview as to what the Garden of Salvation raid armor initially could have been, as it was seen in the first Shadowkeep ViDoc.
Now, why this is upsetting, I hear you ask? Well, this is upsetting, because the armor we could have gotten as a raid reward, was moved into the monetization section of the game, namely, the Season of the Undying universal ornaments.
If you compare those 2 sets, you can see that they're basically identical, with model changes made to the hunter and titan helmet, plus the texture changes to account for the Black Garden theme.
This change in the aesthetic of a previously leaked armor, with an obvious black garden theme, with the Season of the Undying not being centered around the black garden, with the Season of the Undying universal armor set looking just like the previously leaked armor that was hypothesized to be the Garden of Salvation raid armor, while the actual Garden of Salvation raid armor is a reskin, makes it look like that they decided to use the better-looking armor set as an incentive for their monetizations, after changing it up a bit to fit the Season of the Undying theme more appropriately.
This is quite the bummer because getting the Black Garden themed Vex armor would have felt like a thing we asked for years to return to D2, where we basically scavenge the enemies we defeat for their stuff and use it for ourselves and with that in mind, I'm looking way less forward to playing the raid, now that I know that the armor it will reward is just reskins with glows slapped onto them.
Now, what can we do about it? Well, we can provide constructive and respectful feedback and hope the devs see that we're not pleased with the decision to axe the supposed raid armor to use it as bait for people to buy into the Season of the Undying.
What do you think of this whole situation, let's give your feedback down below.
20 RepliesThen don’t buy shadow keep. It’s bungie’s game, not yours. I’m happy to play it and couldn’t care less about re-skins.
-
I'd say so disappointing but after seeing that most of shadowkeep is reused places, reused bosses, reused exotics and more it's not very surprising.
-
7 RepliesPeople get so worked up over the silliest things. Honestly, it's a dealbreaker for ya?
-
12 RepliesBeyond the fact that this is totally unconfirmed and 90% unlikely to be true... As long as the armor looks cool and the raid is good, why do you care if it's based roughly on a previous set of armor? At this point, 5 years in, they won't really be able to create anything that doesn't resemble something else already done in the game. Otherwise, the armor would start to look completely insane because they'd have to start doing weird stuff to make it 110% unique. Hopefully they'll make reskins of all the VoG gear and weapons, and then not change them much
-
1 ReplyI don't see it. They don't really even look the same to me.
-
3 RepliesI don't care. I want good looking armor with good stats, that's all. I guess you think armor ideas are infinite? To be honest, I'd like to get away from armor looking like armor at all. Give my Hunter chick a catholic schoolgirl outfit or a nice bikini and I'd be happy. It's magic armor anyway... who says it has to look like armor? I'd like my Titan dressed up like Arnold from the original Terminator.
-
The armor shown is confirmed to be the Vex Offensive armor, the reason the trace rifle was there is because we will acquire a legendary version and upgrade through raid challenges. Stop assuming and do some research please.
-
7 Repliesthey reskinned basic suros weaponry with the siva raid in d1, i was mad about it but it seemed like no one cared
-
9 RepliesMy guess there's a good chance that there will be ornaments to change up the look of that base set of raid armor. But if you can't accept that armor, does that mean you are quitting D2?
-
Edited by Subzero_My_Hero: 8/31/2019 11:32:58 PMAdmittedly this is a big oof from Bungie. Leaks aside they had to have realized this particular issue would have come up either way. This is a bad look. It will be interesting to hear what they say, as Dmg did indicate they will address it. Hopefully this doesn't taint what otherwise looked to be a pretty cool fall expansion.

2 RepliesOhhhh Bungie, so close! You were nearly there and you tripped on your own laces right before the finish line. It's always a shame when things like this happen that put the brakes on the hype train. I'm not overreacting, poor loot from the apex of pinnacle activities is a big deal and it raises concerns about other aspects of the game. Things like how Eververse seems to take priority when it comes to cool, unique armour and cosmetics, the lack of a vendor refresh. After a year's wait we're only getting 2 crucible maps ported over from D1 and 2 strikes. It all kinda feels like losing Vicarious and High Moon support has caused Bungie to be unable to deliver as much content as people would think. I'll wait to see how Shadowkeep turns out, as for right now I am very interested to see what DMG has to say on Monday "back at the office". Not sure what they could really say that would make it OK (short of, it's not the raid set or we'll change it before launch), but i'll give them the chance to say something in their defence.
-
2 RepliesNot surprised. The Forsaken Vanguard armor sets were just reskined Mercury vendor armor.
-
7 RepliesHighly doubt the armor you're complaining about, is raid armor. Bungie said several times that they don't plan to spoil raids, or show off anything raid related so we can experience it ourselves. Stop complaining when you have no concrete proof of anything.
-
CoO was based on the vex. it would make sense to have a base model of that gear then expand on it. plus shaders can interact with it differently. either way its not that big of a deal, reskins are gonna happen eventually. but hopefully it would be modified enough to not matter.
-
Shouldnt accept reskins period.
-
Well if they would make ornaments and you got them for raid bounties that added a new look maybe they'd look way better. Maybe, D1 year 3 armor ornaments.
-
We shouldn't accept it but we are. They did it with all leviathan gear so its not a -blam!-ing surprise. Get ready for battlepass and eververse to always and only have unique armor. Everything else is reskin time!

welcome to Destiny💁♂️

Edited by Ur PaNic: 8/31/2019 9:46:35 PMCome on, man...
-
Wow bungie just wow, you had cool armor but decided to move it to eververse this just a -blam!- move on you
-
I tend to agree with the op Raid armor should be completely unique and original
-
This game’s whole loot pool is based off of reskins! Except eververse that’s where the originality is, I mean how will they get you to spend more money on the game if the great looking stuff is readily acquirable.
-
Edited by Hulk: 8/31/2019 9:14:16 PMThis is sad. Looks really bad on Bungie. Lazy and not creative. Especially with all the new players seeing this. Reskins should never be in a new raid and the major DLC of the year.
-
4 RepliesEdited by Anedime: 8/31/2019 5:27:11 PMThe armor you call the raid armor "that could have been" is still in the game. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MspAKr8THf4 40 seconds in. The titan is wearing it. And this is a new trailer from like two weeks ago so I doubt it's some cut contents. There's some confusion as to what armors are from where, but clearly both sets are gonna be obtainable. Edit: In fact that armor is also on the shadowkeep info page. https://www.bungie.net/7/ca/destiny/bgs/shadowkeep/undying_desktop_bg.webp

Reskins as raid loot is not acceptable, if they wanted to do reskins for the vex invasion activity that would be, but raid loot? That’s not okay, I have been pretty happy with what I’ve seen coming with shadowkeep so far but reskined raid armor?!?! R u serious! We will literally have the exact armor from the eververse transmit there’s no reason to chase after it at all

10 RepliesCan you at least put a caveat in your post saying that everything stated is not actually confirmed? I am not saying what you’ve posted might not actually be true, but you’re starting a fire before you even know what you’re looking at. Can I get a shoutout from all my people who went around trying to convince everyone there was a solar week because of an unconfirmed data mine?
