A few friends of mine keep telling me I should get into anime. I appreciate the art style and the aesthetic, but I’m not sure if I could handle the whole culture...
-
I believe I’m the expert here, with shows watched being in the triple digits. What concerns do you have?
-
Love it. However, like most things, you have look really hard to separate the wheat from the chaff, which can be tricky given the sheer quantity of anime out there.
-
I’ve tried it, and... most of it is really weird (not in a good way)
-
3 RepliesWhat.
-
Some of it is good and a lot of it is bad. One anime I frequently recommend to people who don't usually watch it is Monster. I believe it is as well written as some of the better live action series like Dexter and Breaking Bad. It certainly among the best, if not the best, anime series.
-
3 RepliesDon't, have some friends who watch anime and somethings just make me think "what the hell is wrong with you?"
-
i smell CRINGE
-
2 RepliesI had a classmate that was convinced that all animation was anime. Because in her eyes, “anime is just short for animation”.
-
3 RepliesYou’ll get equal parts waifu fanservice, fight scenes, and what is, on a very base level, charicature. Oh yeah, a hint of deviancy thrown in here and there. There are shows that balance these out with good writing and character development, but also tons of literal brain cancer. That’s as honest as I can be.
-
1 ReplyPersonally, I find that anime has more diverse/non-censored stories compared to most american shows. So short and simple it's just unique content which relates back to Japan's creative culture.
-
4 RepliesHonestly, it’s not bad until people start acting like they’re Japanese.

DEW IT
But Actually, it’s just an art form, nothing else. If you can get past the ramifications that it’s anime, it becomes really enjoyable. Start with the classics first before delving into the more recent ones. Good examples are Bleach, Naruto, Fullmetal Alchemist, DragonBall, One Piece, Sailor Moon (more of a girly one imo) and of course, Pokémon. Then you have to be more careful with the new shit. Unfortunately, half of it is trap central and hentai, the other 30 percent is poorly written factory produced dogshit. The only good new ones I’ve watched is Attack on Titan and One Punch Man. But just a tip, the mainstream anime is almost all shit *cough* My Hero Academia *cough* And lastly, avoid Sword Art Online at ALL costs.
-
1 ReplyThere’s the weeb fanatic, the hentai, and the normal person who just enjoys the shows for what they actually are. I’d say a solid 50-60% of people who watch anime are actually in that last category, including myself. Watching anime doesn’t have to be cringe; in fact, only the poorly-written anime is cringe. The better stuff is actually really enjoyable.

4 RepliesDoes RWBY count as an Anime
-
18 RepliesI love it; just have to find some good ones
one punch, mob psycho, shield hero, attack on Titan, JoJo's bizarre adventure, noragami, etc
NO SWORD ART ONLINE
-
Like any other piece of media, there’s stuff you’ll like and hate from it. Personally, it’s the best place to get Mech action (because it’s the only place that cares).
-
1 ReplyAll cartoons are animated...
-
My favorite medium for visual representation of individuals minds. I find it hilarious I love to watch fairy tale despite this final seasons lackluster quality, in about every aspect but then, the pure ranchness and everything that has happened up to this point, just kinda.. Works for me.
-
3 RepliesThey're just animated movies. Its just in Japanese culture, animiation isn't seen as just an entertainment form for kids, like it is here in the US. But like any other medium you get great stories.....like Evangelion, Appleseed, Fullmetal Alchemist and Ghost in the Shell..... ....and **not** so great stories.
-
2 RepliesI mean I like some of it, I don't really understand the hate surrounding it.
-
Only Dragonball is still cool to watch.
-
No one says you have to follow the culture just watch what you wanna watch if you don’t know which kind your into just ask for some recommendations
-
Don’t follow the group. If you enter anime do it on your terms. I watch a lot of anime, the culture that follows it is not special, but the occasional series is. What are genres you like? They have an anime for that. If you are going to get into anime do it for your own entertainment, not to follow a meme.
-
I’m not much of an anime fan, but I do watch it from time to time. I only watch a very few. About 3. But I’ll say this: there are a ton of cliches that can be found in all of them.
-
I’m pretty much indifferent, it’s not for me but I won’t condemn people for watching it As long as it’s not getting shoved in my face anyway
-
Just because you watch it doesn’t mean you have to be apart of any culture/group. Enjoy what you want and don’t let anything bring you down.
