Why can your government simply “shut down” pay for only those who are involved with the process at hand instead of dragging everyone else down with them?

That's quite a euphemism that you used. I agree that the interests of the US as a whole must be first in Congress. Too bad we have people in Congress like McConnell who are intentionally keeping the government shut down and harming federal workers in the process just to get his way or no way. There seems to be bipartisan work on opening the government already, but because a minority of Republican congressmen want to keep the government shut down over wall funding, the shutdown doesn't seem like it will end any time soon, and federal workers are the pieces that they are playing with, like they see them as toys rather than actual people.

Abortion should be encouraged and taught in schools as the right thing to do, but only when it's really inconvenient for the would-be mother in question. Nobody cares about us.
