Since Bungie has been giving out the base game for free, the booster business has been booming. Are you wondering why all you see in QP and Comp are underleveled characters, most of them slaying like they were born to play Destiny and ruin your day? It's even worse in Competitive, where a hell of a lotta Luna's Howl users are lagging around, with just about 50 games under their belt. Do you really think new players are just that talented? Some of them may absolutely be. The majority though are just exploiting the game for profit and ruining your experience along the way. Here are some facts: - I know at least a dozen people who are using Aimbots and a software lag switch. I've seen them do it, most admitted to cheating and all of them got their Not Forgotten that way. - I personnaly know guys who take over clanmate's accounts and earn them Luna's Howl and Not Forgotten. The majority don't play legit and use cheats. - I know 2 guys who got banned for cheating, a few months ago. Now that the game is free, the both made 30 accounts and counting, are back to full-on cheating and are selling accounts on eBay, with the Not Forgotten unlocked. - There are a ton of websites, so-called Booster Services, following the same strategy -as those 2 guys, buying Forsaken by the truckload, cheating their way through the Comp playlist as fast as possible and selling those accounts for up to 500$ apiece. The consequences are felt across all the PvP playlists. Genuine new players fall victim to the horrible matchmaking - more the lack therof - and don't even understand what's happening to them. I've seen very talented and accomplished CS:GO and Overwatch veterans, one of them a former pro, get mauled in D2 PvP without even understanding how. All of them just laughed at the brokenness of this game and uninstalled it after a few weeks. The problem are not just the account recoveries and smurfing in general. It's a combination of factors that contribute to the laughable condition the game is in right now. The root problem is the netcode. P2P, as complex as it may be in D2, allows high latency to be beneficial for the one who's lagging. As long as we don't get to play on dedicated servers, people are going to exploit this to their advantage. On PC it's as easy as downloading a tiny piece of software and binding the lag switch to a key. P2P leaves clients IPs out in the open, giving ample opportunity to DOS and DDOS your way to the top of the ranks. I know a lot of people don't believe that D2 ist that easy to exploit but it just is. Accept it. I'm pretty sure that Destiny has become the most exploited online game in history. At least of the one's I have played and I'm 38 years old. I've been playing online FPS games since Quake. I've literally seen it all. As much as I love Destiny, this has become an absolute joke and a nightmare to play. Because it's so easy to cheat and the game is basically free right now, prepare yourself for it to become even worse, as more and more "players" buy and/or cheat their way through the game without even a hint of a counter from Bungie. Forsaken had me very hopeful for the future of the franchise and PvE is mostly fine. PvP is in serious danger, though. Bungie HAS to start implementing some serious anti-cheat measures, invest in upgrading to dedicated servers for PvP and rework their matchmaking and ranking system from the ground up. If not PvP is going to belong to cheaters and playlists will get even more unplayable than they are right now.
