[Update at bottom]
Recently, there have been several posts that have been removed that called out some top ranked players that had extremely suspicious match history in Trials of Osiris.

Several of those accounts and teammates were banned or stopped playing shortly after those threads were created.
One of them that was very highly ranked is playing again on a new account, an account with a nearly identical name to his old one. On his new account, his ToO match history has many matches against teams that are listed as deserters, just like his previous account.
In order to not violate the CoC, I can't say who it is, I just want it to be known just how ineffective account bans and console bans are.
Bungie needs to come up with a solution for Destiny 2 that takes away the incentive to use a DOS attack.
My idea would be to make any match that was won against a team with one or more "deserters" only count as 1/2 of a win and 1/3 of a loss. This would mean after winning two matches by dubious methods, they would have one recorded win, but after their next dubious win, they would gain a loss.
What other things could Bungie do that they aren't already doing?
Let's hear your ideas…
Edit: There have been several good ideas posted. Let's keep it up, perhaps Bungie can "borrow" one of them.
Edit: Several people have raised the point that some teams would leave a match to spite the victor. To discourage this, teams detected leaving multiple matches could receive a penalty, the loss of their card or right to enter trials for 24 hours. Bungie did something like this in the first few weeks of trials by issuing restrictions to players that backed out when facing superior opponents. This should be only in trials, and players should be able to freely leave regular crucible matches with no penalty.
Final Edit: Some replies are getting a little sidetracked. This is not about calling people out in this thread, it's about what different things Bungie could do to prevent in D2 the frequency of DoS attacks that occurred in D1. Please share your ideas.
My last contribution is that the account bans and console bans that were issued in Destiny need to carryover to Destiny 2. Bungie has yet to announce if bans will carryover.
[Update]
Thank you to everyone that took the time to respond and offer your suggestions.
I have compiled a list of suggestions that were offered:
1) Wins vs desserter count as 1/2 win, and 1/3 loss. After three such wins, the card would register 1 win and 1 loss. This would only take effect in a match with less than 15 total deaths on the losing team. Teams that intentionally leave (repeatedly) receive a timeout to discourage leaving to spite the victors.
2) Dedicated servers to prevent an attacker from easily determining your IP address.
3) Continue with console bans and account bans. Destiny bans should carryover to Destiny 2. Work with Sony and Microsoft partners towards a device ban from Sony/MS.
4) Bungie publicly shaming cheaters that were caught, "wall of shame", etc.
5) Improve the "Automatic cheat detection" analytical tools used by Bungie that detect cheating to react more quickly to suspicious matches.
6) Change how trials works so that it's total wins, losses don't count.
7) Limit fire-teams one trip to the lighthouse per week, and require all fire-team members have the same number of wins on the card so all go together, or no one does.

3 RepliesI've said it before and will say it again. There should be no ban if you're caught cheating, instead Bungo should personally go to the cheaters home, each and every morning, and wake him up by throwing a cup of hot piss in his face.

1. Punish laggers as badly as cheaters. I know it's a little off topic, but chronic laggers have no place in any shooter, not to mention how hard it is to tell whether it's lag or a lag switch. 2. DEDICATED SERVERS YOU CHEAP, LAZY ACTIVISION EXECUTIVES. Sorry if I seem aggressive or angry there, but it's that important to me. Dedicated server make DoS attacks significantly harder, little Timmy can't DoS any average Joe anymore. It would also improve non-local matchmaking (peer to peer is only superior numbers-wise when everybody is clustered closer to each other than a server). 3. Allow name and shame, I don't care about witch-hunts, Bungie should allow at least video evidence on maybe it's own forum. Quite a few subreddit I've seen allow it, witch-hunts aren't common there, if existent at all. Maybe have a sort of court system where people can accuse accounts of cheating and have it structured like American court? I don't know, the current system is too restrictive. That's what I want gone. 4. Program the game to discourage or attempt to disable certain controller mods, I'm talking mainly jitters as I've seen a few reports of them.

6 RepliesWait so Bungie would never have noticed the questionable Stats Record and Banned they guy had he not been pointed out by the Community. But at the same time, Bungie doesn't want us to 'name and shame' wtf? If Bungie won't let us out cheaters, then they had better damn well do a better job of handling them internally.

Bungie supports cheating, it is a viable way to play Destiny👎🏻
-
I would just make it not count if there is a disconnect. No win, no loss. That would be the only fair way to do it. Yes it would be a hassle. However it would stop cheating a win by disconnect. Completely removes the incentive.

2 RepliesIt seems that the general population has no problem finding "cheaters". There seems to be a process in place to discover this activity. How hard is it for Bungie to set up an anonymous site where these possible cheaters can be investigated. Bungie seems to use the player base to debug "beta" gameplay, why not use the player base to police its own players? You have thousands of eyes looking for free, they should use this resource.

7 RepliesDedicated servers nuke the DDOS idea out of water as you have to take down a whole damn server vs mess with 1 persons connection. That would be the ideal solution. Plus if you take down a whole gaming server they are coming for you and coming after you like a hound on a hare. Otherwise: Till Microsoft and Sony start Mac Address bricking consoles and it large and scary amounts this type of thing will continue. And as an added measure (if provided) a credit card used to purchase the Mac Banned box would also be put onto a blacklist, so when a new account is created with that associated card, the new box is immediately MAC banned as well. Now while this can all be circumvented it does become a colossal pain in the ass to keep doing it repeatedly.

Edited by Rayland_Givens_: 8/10/2017 4:10:24 AMSince cheating will always happen when a legendary or ranked status is applied to an accomplishment, the way forward is the use of a book method. This would encourage trials gameplay at your own competitive pace. Buy a book that records your stats and when the book is complete you access a lighthouse area. Set stats that are obtainable by a good pvp'r, say 2.0 k/d over 5 wins. Bounties completed within a given match limit or whatever. That would destroy incentive to dos attack since team wins mean nothing and a player needs an opponent to complete book goals. You also remove the black market for people who ask for payment to carry weak players. The sweaty tryhards also have no incentive to mock or berate other players because they don't have any elo score or ranking system to validate their worth in a game mode. If you want a top honors do it by clan on B.net, because who wins trials alone? #Feedback

1 ReplyWill these losers be able to do it with the cloud server being the host? I'm not sure how it works so it's a genuine question.

7 RepliesEdited by Jonny_ Reggae: 8/6/2017 6:30:53 PMBan anyone for charging for carries , they would have no incentive to cheat , but if people are sad enough to pay to be carried then, maybe they should be banned also, as they are encouraging a reason for them to cheat

6 RepliesIn my 20 odd years gaming, more specifically the last 10 though, I've played a lot of different online games. Destiny is the ONLY one I've encountered cheaters. All other online games haven't suffered. So why is it that destiny is vulnerable like this?

4 RepliesEdited by Savathun's Tasty Morsel: 8/6/2017 2:29:42 PMThe most effective way would be an IP/console ban. Yes, someone can buy a new console, yes some can use an IP changer, but the trouble to do that would eventually prove fruitless, especially after the second occurrence.

yeah if they keep up with p2p ddos are going to become more common

They DO NOT care...... 3yrs of us all seeing what they have done 3yrs and you still have to ask

1 ReplyEdited by Project Zero: 8/7/2017 2:15:33 AMBungie aren't going to do a thing. Get ready to deal with the same shit in Destiny 2.

7 RepliesHow about we just leave trials out of the game. PvE would be much better without ToO
-
4 RepliesI don't play trials, but I play pve, can only run raid, nightfall once a week per character, then trials should be once a week per character since it is considered end game content. If they want to keep playing after they go to the light house, fine then they can't go to the lighthouse. I can't keep running raids countless times a week and receive gear, just my thoughts

2 RepliesThere is only one solution: Keep people engaged and playing. The more people the less it sucks. It's that simple. Week one of Rise of Iron I went flawless like 6 times, got this emblem, didn't rage a single time. Every week following it decreased in fun because there was zero reason for everyone to actually play Trials. Zero. So all you play are sweats. And I'm sorry but I'm a real person and that isn't fun.

7 RepliesI think that a lot of these shenanigans would be fixed by allowing only ONE card per character, or even ONE card per account per week. Once you make it to the lighthouse, thats it, you are done. Or do what was asked since ToO became such a disease fest, if people don't like only being able to do 1 card a week, or potentially 3 cards a week, once you make it to the lighthouse and you want to keep playing, you have the chance to buy a new glorious looking card with bells and whistles (to appease all of the children in ToO) and only play teams that gone to the lighthouse. I mean, something HAS to be done. I do not touch ToO with a ten foot pole. Every time I have played ToO, and I mean EVERY time, I have a negative experience. Whether it is stupid kids that leave hate voicemail screaming with their high pitched voices, people flooding my screen with join chat requests, hate mail in the form of texts with extreme hate-filled inappropriate "kill yourself" comments, me stupidly leaving the chat open so people join us to call us all kinds of racial slurs and more "you were a failed abortion" or "kill yourself" comments. I mean, c'mon.. ToO is filled with such extreme hate I do not bother playing it. Not worth my time.

5 RepliesEdited by EzE_408: 8/7/2017 4:10:59 PMWell. During our trials flawless card last night we ran into not 1, but 2, DOSing groups. The first group was losing to us 4-1 and they booted me. They shut down my whole network and I could not log in for several minutes while my Internet booted up. I checked guardian.gg and saw that the opponents had deserters in almost every match for the last month or so. I gather that, when they are losing, they ramp up their antics. That way there is a less or a chance to get detected. However, my 2 clanmates also remained in the match and were able to get to win 5. Since they had 0 losses, on their overall card, at the time, I played the card out having used my mercy. They wound up going flawless, but I did not. Pretty BS. Once at 9 wins, we all decided to farm for scarab emblems. We then encountered a second group that DOSed my 2 clan mates where they had their entire internet down as well, while leaving me to play 1v3. They were all terribly bad players. I checked guardian.gg and the same thing was observed. All were bad players with high ELOs winning matches against 1-2 deserters. There was little chance this was just connection related as both squads never disconnected while the teams they played always had deserters. I sincerely feel like name and shame needs to happen because 2 hours of my night was ruined because of some scumbags. I also should probably cancel my Destiny 2 console preorder because Bungie has shown a complete ignorance in dealing with these people. There is no way this is something that is difficult to detect.
