What's the point of deeming weapons "Exotic" anymore Bungie?

Iv'e been wanting to make a post about this for some time but haven't gotten around to it. It's obvious why armor pieces are exotic and should be for good reason. Guns such as Suros Regime, Hawkmoon, Hardlight, and a few other primaries right now just don't feel exotic... even Thorn. Why even bother using a Hawkmoon now when Eyasluna and Palindrome just outperform it in every aspect? Why use an Auto-Rifle when a high RoF pulse rifle is basically that but better, or a Doctrin? Basically we should just go ahead and remove some guns from the Exotic pool and drop them down to Legendaries or give them Life of the Exotic, because of they've been neutered. I don't know if it's the nerfherd who should be blamed for this nonsense, or Bungie for caving in and actually nerfing the primaries because someone most likely got outplayed but blamed the primary for being "Too OP".

  • PvP in Destiny is a joke without a punchline. It has no place in a loot-based game. Borderlands never had this issue, it left the brokenly good and awesome weapons the way they were. I quit Destiny a long time ago because of Bungie's insistence on listening to the PvP players instead of the people who actually play the main meat of the game. Exotics are useless now.

If you've ever played battlefront 2 you'll realize how overpowered every weapon is, and in that way it balanced it, so what if they powered up all the exotics and then it would all be balanced in a way, tell me if that makes sense

    • I agree they need to outperform everything in PVE, otherwise what's the point? PVP needs its own balance entirely separate.

    • I know right. Has anyone bothered to try and use invective. What they did to that is shameful. To range, no ammo Regen in PvP completely unusable. But they bring back matador. Everything they do to "Ballance weapons" just makes them worse.

    • The problem isn't that exotics perks are bad it's that most of their stats are so shit that there isn't a reason to use them. Take a look at MIDA, great PvP weapon, why? It's a great archetype of scout, good range, reload and stability and even better aim assist. The exotic perk is usable, it helps out but not game breaking. Now take a look at Thorn, it's exotic perk is amazing (or was). Now however, they nerfed its range and stability I believe so it's just that much harder to actually hit your target. Exotics are so inconsistent people don't want to gamble on them.

    • Yes the reason why a lot of weapons have been nerfed into the ground is for pvp reasons. But guns like the bad juju and red death are still viable for pve purposes which I'm sure is what they were designed for. Destiny was never meant to be pvp based as it's mostly end game content after you beat the main story line it's just a lot of people focused mainly on the pvp for the glory aspect. I know players with 3.0 kds that can't raid for the life of them.

      • Next they'll nerf Gjallarhorn and Trespasser because so many people are using them. Mark my words. They'll probably justify it with a graph showing weapon usage over time. It's so frustrating because these guns aren't OP, they're just the only ones that feel exotic!!

        • Bungie answers to the nerf herders. So yeah, the nerf herders are the reason exotics and most primaries are weak right now.

        • The only EXOTIC weapons in this game IMO are: Mythoclast Bad Juju Outbreak Prime Touch of Malice Zhalo (b/c arc burn) Ice Breaker Gjallarhorn Sleeper Sim and the exotic Swords.

        • Honestly, I appreciate that Destiny doesn't have a Gold=GOD mentality. Exotics almost all have their niche and their purpose. It's not just across the board BETTER. You want survivability? Red Death. Want Supers? Bad Juju. Like running in and dumping lead into a target? Last Word. Want to hang back and stunlock everything? MIDA. So on and so forth. Now, while there are some exceptions (normally to the negative, like NLB or UR), generally, Exotics are tailored to specific play styles and mentalities. Using them in that mold is great, trying to go against the grain generally less so.

            • Exotics haven't felt "exotic" since year 1. After year 1 they brought them more in line with legendaries due to the whiners. Some legendaries are better than exotics. I thought the whole point of it being exotic was that it was the most op weapon of its class

              • Agreed exotics are useless in my opinion exotics should be slightly op. But they haven't even got the power of most legendary weapons.

              • I feel you. There's a lot of exotics that used to piss me off (in the crucible). Thorn comes to mind when thinking of year one. Even though weapons like that were a pain to go up against, I was fine with it. I could either use the same weapon against them, or use other various weapons/tactics, and be successful. It unfortunate that many exotics are essentially useless, even when it come to PVE. So many cool, and fun weapons have been nerfed into obscurity, and are likely never coming back. Nothing feels exotic anymore, besides a handful of weapons/armors. It's seems that the only weapons that have survived so far are the mida and TLW. Even after the nerf, TLW is a god in a competent player's hands. I'm not saying no exotic should be impervious to patches, but should they be nerfed to the point that their exotic perks become useless or removed altogether? Many players are fine with this, so these arguments are likely falling on deaf ears, but some of us want to see the greats come back. I'm looking at you Icebreaker (RIP).

                • It's because they think balancing means nerf weapons into the ground until these little kids that try to go flawless every weekend will stop crying like little bitches. It's because anyone that gets killed immediately thinks it's the weapon that out played them and not for a second do they think hey maybe I suck or maybe the other player was actually better at the game, No it's immediately the weapon is op or lag.... Bungie catered to the whining public crying and crying to make out weapons weak so they die less... Thank the kids who play crucible and all the big mouth pubescent YouTube no lifers.

                  • I remember Bungie once saying play how you want. Then it became that's not how we intended you to play. Regretfully due to the change in mindset any weapon you use, due to it optimising your loadout, will eventually get nerfd. To respond to your point of PvP players calling for the nerfs to a certain extent I agree. The problem is that Bungie forgot hot to have a truly balanced PvP experience, either that or they just couldn't be assed. Crucible should have set weapons for loadouts, or the perks get deactivated, the same goes for armour. If they (Bungie) would of taken this approach then there wouldn't of been a need for as many nerfs as we have seen in the past two years of this game and, in PvE, exotics would still feel strong. Bungie proved at the start of year two that they could separate PvP and PvE in their weapon balancing with shotguns. This was the first, and what feels like the last, time they did this.

                    • Truthfully, I think that they should make several weapons OP, that way if you go up against an OP weapon, and you don't have the gun that they are using against you to make it fair and skillbased, the chances of you having a different OP weapon to combat the slaughter go up. I remember a time period where you just couldn't beat the DoP in Trials, and it took a couple of months to finally get my hands on one. Myself and a friend of mine tried so many different weapons to try and beat it and we got nowhere. The closest was the Universal Remote bit we still couldn't do it.

the simple answer is, get rid of crucible and then weapons can be fun, ridiculus and OP like borderlands

                          • Bungie's solution would be - Nerf all other primaries until they are out-performed by these lackluster exotics. So be careful what you wish for, because... Bungie - It's Nerf or nothing!

                            • I agree with you completely and to add on it what's most annoying is that we can only use 1 at a time..... Like what's the point in limiting their use if they aren't as good as legendaries (which have no limit in how many can be equiped....). I could see if they were godlike and that's why we can only use 1 at a time (which I'm sure was the idea behind this stupid system), but that's not the case for the vast majority of exotics weapons.....especially the primaries.

Thorn used to shred and I didn't mind getti g two tapped because I appreciated that the guardian who killed me went through the same monster quest I did.
