Oh how many times it's happened. I see a sniper at the back of the map. I pull out my Badger CCL/MIDA/etc and line up the shot. About this time, said sniper sees me and raises his rifle to challenge me. I peg him twice in the head, then he promptly gives me the proverbial middle finger and kills me with a headshot. Here's my issue: this happens a LOT. The occasional lucky shot I can deal with, but when I'm shooting a guy in the head, he should not be able to maintain the line of sight needed to headshot me anyways...with consistency.
Now I'm not the type to complain without offering solutions, so here's mine. In my perfect Destiny world(s), aim assist would be removed from sniper rifles as it's my belief that sniping should be difficult and reward a truly skilled hand. However, through discussion with an individual of a differing point of view, I realize that this would not be viable without crushing sniping enjoyment for the more casual crowd. Therefore, my proposal is to make there be significantly more sniper scope bounce upon receiving a headshot.
This way, if you take a shot to the torso/arm/leg, you can still fight through and land the kill-shot. However, if you're taking a face full of lead/plasma, you can't just say "lol cute" and consistently land head shots. I am but a lone guardian. I want to hear the thoughts of my fellow players.
Edit: I am totally open to alternative suggestions to what I've offered if anybody cares to share. I value constructive dialogue in the name of improving a game.
Edit 2: Some solid proposals I've seen:
-De-scope on headshot
-Place "sway" mechanic on snipers
-Extend ADS times/lower overall Handling for Sniper Rifles based on impact (Higher Impact = lower handling speed)
-Give sniper bullets travel time akin to Queenbreaker's Bow
-Perk that has a chance to descope snipers upon headshot
-Randomize flinch pattern/direction
-Scale the amount of flinch/de-scope based on a combination of the range and impact stats. So a weapon like Badger CCL would cause massive flinch or de-scope upon headshot but an auto rifle like Doctrine of Passing would cause little to no flinch.
Some less solid/reliable proposals:
-Git gud
-Lrn 2 Strafe
-Don't challenge snipers (they are Gods)
-Raise your K/D, then complain
-Lern 2 stratajize
I'll update this as I see more. Thanks guys and gals!

1 ReplyLol its alright i get sniped so fast in the head from across the map and they guys scope light didnt show....so the so called nerf they gave snipers are bs lol they still can no scope and zoom in fast enough for a quick scope.....so intill the snipers are fixed this game kinda feels like rip off cod in the sniper department. Although thats just my opinion

2 RepliesBuff primaries. We never had a sniper problem in Y1

1 ReplyOP uses shotgun. OP opinion is invalid.

14 RepliesAs somebody who's been sniping for two years now (since the alpha) I think this entire post is utterly dumb. Something about this gives off the vibe you don't have much experience in sniping and I think the state of recoil after receiving a bullet is already bad enough and adding any change wouldn't bring a positive outcome. Most of the time, landing a headshot like that requires a lot of skill or you're making a mistake that lead to you getting killed. When I see a sniper in the back of the map and I don't have a sniper on me, I usually back into cover and attempt to find a way to close the gap, not challenging in a snipers optimal range. Aim assist doesn't do as much as the community thinks it does, yes, some shots don't make any sense on a very rare occasion but the only thing aim assist consistently helps for is dragscoping, and chances are that's not happening if they're in the back if the map. There is alternative ways besides trying to nerf snipers to counter a hardscoper in the back, just like there are counters to shotguns or fusion rifles. My advice is don't challenge a sniper in the ways you describe here, instead try using a sniper and figure out what stops you from killing people in your scenario. Then apply what happened to you next time you see somebody hardscoping in the back :) I hope this helps you in any way Let me know your opinions

1 ReplyHave you also considered how it would affect sniping in PvE? because they can't just change how a weapon works in Crucible only. Besides i usually snipe from time to time, and while i find it to be a bit easy i have been rekt by people with Scout Rifles at range even when i have shot them a few times. I can say that it is pretty fair the way it's and that it just depends on who is using the weapon.

19 Repliesi believe it's your fault for challenging a sniper from a distance. pick your battles wisely because you're going to go nowhere if you just challenge a sniper from a good distance. use cover to your advantage or if the sniper has a bad shot you could use that to your advantage as well. it's the players fault not the games

4 RepliesWhy is getting shot by a sniper across map more frustrating than running around a corner and getting bludgeoned by a shotgun that happens just as frequently as getting sniped?
-
7 RepliesOr maybe... Don't challenge a sniper from a long range. In a lane. With something that takes multiple shots to kill.
-
I take on snipers all the time. I actually like downing them in a sniper lane. Usually will take out 60-75% of them. (Rest of the time I die, but I'll take those odds.) Just keep strafing. RDMs? And know when to move behind cover. Of course was easier (and I had higher success) when MIDA caused a heavy flinch, so it was sad when everybody else started using MIDA and that perk got nerfed.

3 RepliesHigh caliber rounds. Enough said.
-
Slow firing scouts don't make snipers flinch as much as fast firing guns.
-
3 RepliesGet some HC rounds for their face. Also maybe remove unflinching as a sniper perk?
made you look
Shoulder Charge him, until he quickscopes you.

increase flinch is the only solution worthwhile

2 RepliesSnipers are in a wierd spot in this game, most maps in destiny are geared toward shotguns and the only place snipers really excel is in elim. Snipers are fine.
-
I just got Patience and Time yet to me all snipers in PVE just instantly destroy enemies.
-
Literally no-one would use snipers if they did this

5 RepliesGid good, go and flank. Or maybe DONT CHALLENGE A SNIPER WITH ANYTHING IN A SNIPER'S OWN LANE. MAKE SURE YOU CHOOSE YOUR OWN ENGAGEMENTS, DONT LET THE OTHERS DO THAT FOR YOU... GEEZ STOP COMPLAINING IM TIRED OF THIS AND BTW IM SORRY I CANT TURN CAPS LOCK OFF

It happens to me a lot sadly. Idk why though, I shoot them with a high caliber pulse rifle yet they still shoot me in the head? Snipers need a balance. Decrease stability or something. Make it like cod whereas your reticle would fly all over the screen if your being shot at. Or they could at least make it like the older Halos whereas if your were shot while hard scoping, you will unscope. The only escuse to this should be no land beyond.

Edited by Pat: 7/2/2016 8:31:14 AMI completely agree. Hard scopers will tell you "Then don't go down sniper lanes" but guess what, EVERY PATH ON DESTINY HAS TURNED INTO SNIPER LANES. And before you look on my stats or profile, I have 1.4, 1.6, and 1.6 KDs, higher in trials. ELO is 2,030 and go flawless 3x per week. I love shotguns, but depending on the map say if it's widows court, I'll snipe. Its way to easy to do it though. Bungie does need to adjust snipers to make crucible bearable again. It slows the game down wayyy too much and two body shots are just too easy. My idea is to make scopes sway somehow or a de-scope method. Maybe a armor/weapon attachment that makes the sniper how they are now.

1 ReplyWhen hit snipers should just be unscoped
-
1 ReplyI never post in here. But i think there is a simple fix for the sniper problem: give the rounds travel time similar to fusion rifles and snipers in games like battlefield. It would balence them out without nerfing them too much.
-
Oh sorry, I saw sniper and destiny and was expecting some sort of joke.
-
14 RepliesYeah I keep dying from this one sniper called "party crasher" or something like that. Pretty annoying. Looks a lot like a shotgun though so I'm kinda confused...
