Hi. By just reading this title, I'm sure you realize I'm no year 1 guardian. I didn't start playing this game til mid november last year so yes I'm a kinderguardian (I can already hear the jokes and/or bashing just-a-coming ). I missed out on, what seemed like, a great history before year 2. You experienced so much in the year this game has been out. Crazy and stupid hard nightfalls, raids and the icy sting or warm, calming touch of RNGeesus, meeting new people and making friendships that have probably lasted til this day all thanks to this game. Now, I don't know who Phogoth is, I don't get a chance to do a lot of raids (due to my limited amount of friends, being a father to my toddler daughter and working overnights at wally world) or anything to that effect.
You year 1 guardians...
I envy you...
I wish to know what it was like. The experiences you felt completing your first raid, that time you came out on top in a rumble match, the overwhelming emotions that came over you when you got your first ghally, just... everything.
Shed some light on this scrub and share your favorite memories with me. Tell me your war stories and pass on your knowledge to those who have come after.
Edit 1: Wow, guys, I can't believe how much this actually blew up and is trending. Thanks to everyone who heard out a kinderguardian. I appreciate hearing your stories and just thinking wow. Again, guys, much appreciation.
Edit 2: Over 800 comments? Jeez, did not expect to have this kinda outcome. And I love hearing all the stories, it's fantastic. And I've had many offers to run through the old tales, should anyone like, I'm on the xbone and my GT is the same as my name. Thanks, again, fellow guardians, veterans and scrubs.

I have nightmares of the thorn days I feel that burn
-
I miss it, but I'm glad it's gone if ya know what I mean. Mats in general were hard to come by. And you needed Shards and energy like wtf. All the energy I used farming the shit, the mats should've been called Blood, Sweat, and Tears

3 manning crota on hard and getting a clutch kill on the last milisecond of oversoul

since i didn't really know anyone that played/and didn't know about LFG.....i didn't know how to get strange coins to buy a certain Rocket Launcher. i thought, eh, it can't be that good anyway. and then being on vacation the whole weekend when Icebreaker was sold. and going like 8 weeks before i finally got one to drop. actually sweating when doing Nightfalls - cause they were a lot tougher and if you screwed up......it was start all over. the nervousness of entering the Vault of Glass the first time. my stomach was in knots. it took forever. a couple hours each night for about 3 nights. when i finally got the Fatebringer to drop... after probably 30 tries doing just the Templar checkpoint. i think i screamed like a little girl. beating the Phogoth strike to get the thorn. i went in solo thinking how hard can it be. found out real soon i needed help. that is still probably one of the hardest things i have done in this game. when i finally got the Thorn - i was like i'm using this gun for everything!

1 ReplyLooking for 4 people to do the final boss on kings fall normal. only request is that you know what you are doing and are willing to work with a group.
-
3 RepliesBtw phogoth wasn't in the raid...it's a strike that had void burn and arc burn at one point

Getting a strange coin on the beta and having no clue how to use it.

2 RepliesEdited by ToastyWarmIce: 1/30/2016 11:07:34 PMGrinding for the vex mythoclast in VOG, I was so excited when I finally got it. My first Ghorn was a great feeling too. Player :"ok guys take those ghallys out" Me: "Yes sir" It felt good to have that gun equipped Just being excited in general for what was next in the world of Destiny, now all I do is pray that bungie doesn't mess up.

Definitely was better then the current state Destiny's in now...
-
You used to be able to turn materials in for marks, not the other way around. I'd spend hours getting materials to buy the vanguard weapons and armor. And getting to use etheric light on all of the VoG weapons was one of the best things ever. HoW weapons sucked ass. The prison was fun though
-
2 RepliesWhen heavy ammo was really important during VoG and you lost some if you wiped...
-
It was like year 2, but more to do and fun.

The nightfall was an accomplishment to complete solo If you could do that you were welcome into any team. The blue flame that came with the completion of a nightfall too. Elemental primaries. The ice breaker was an animal in pvp and pve

Edited by slopat: 1/31/2016 1:44:13 AMFirst completion of VoG took sveral evenings at 3 hours a pop. Was the most exhilirating and satisfying moment I have ever experienced while gaming.

Well if I was not a year one guardian, I'd have a reason to buy the version of destiny that includes all of the expansions as well as The Taken King! Instead I'm stuck in Year one without enough money to get it!

Edited by PureGewalt: 1/31/2016 12:54:53 AMmy top 3 memorys are.. when I first got my Vex Mythoclast me and my friend went straight into PvP an I was not dissapointed when I finally got that first ghorn I was doing the swordbearer as usual but with my titan it was f-ing around and swining through the air but we killed crota on the first try my loot didn't pop up and I expected sh!t until someone said that I got gjally my reaction was "no way" xD aand my first trials flawless my very first 9:0 chest gave me my 2nd ghorn lol

The great shard wall.

The first and only Gjallahorn I got was actually the first or second exotic I ever found. It was either Pocket Infinity or the Gjallahorn as my first, but I really can't remember now. I remember being upset at finding a "worthless rocket launcher" as one of my first exotics since I felt that all rocket launchers were functionally the same at the time and that the exotic ability sounded weak. I was jealous of my friends Mida Multi Tool and jokingly said I would gladly trade away my worthless Gjallahorn for an exotic primary like he had. If only I knew.

1 ReplyEdited by Brandon: 1/30/2016 11:07:31 PMHaving 3 of each weapon so there was no need to transfer. The light levels on the weapons now is good if you pull a 320 but shitty when all you pull are 315ish

I got my first glory hole (aka ghorn) when I killed crota on normal for the first time. Everyone saw _______ found ghorn! In the feed, and another member of the team claimed that he got it. However, when we went to orbit I was the one who got it! I almost jizzed

I was!!!! On xbox but now im sort of a kindergardian

Edited by Cat: 1/30/2016 11:23:29 PMHey you! Beta player here. I think the best thing about getting into Destiny from the start was the newness of activities. stories and Raids. "new" things now are mainly old things in reverse, or a variation of something done before. I envy you a bit too. You will not have the frustration of grinding for materials, grinding raids for armor and then as soon as you have the best DLC makes it average or sub-par. Collecting what counts as "money" in this game, then having the money system change. As much as Destiny was frustrating back then, the way it is now has lost most of its light for me. I only play now to help friends new to the game once in awhile. Meh. My Raid team has moved on to the Division Beta
