I envy you year 1 guardians.
Hi. By just reading this title, I'm sure you realize I'm no year 1 guardian. I didn't start playing this game til mid november last year so yes I'm a kinderguardian (I can already hear the jokes and/or bashing just-a-coming ). I missed out on, what seemed like, a great history before year 2. You experienced so much in the year this game has been out. Crazy and stupid hard nightfalls, raids and the icy sting or warm, calming touch of RNGeesus, meeting new people and making friendships that have probably lasted til this day all thanks to this game. Now, I don't know who Phogoth is, I don't get a chance to do a lot of raids (due to my limited amount of friends, being a father to my toddler daughter and working overnights at wally world) or anything to that effect.
You year 1 guardians...
I envy you...
I wish to know what it was like. The experiences you felt completing your first raid, that time you came out on top in a rumble match, the overwhelming emotions that came over you when you got your first ghally, just... everything.
Shed some light on this scrub and share your favorite memories with me. Tell me your war stories and pass on your knowledge to those who have come after.

Edit 2: Over 800 comments? Jeez, did not expect to have this kinda outcome. And I love hearing all the stories, it's fantastic. And I've had many offers to run through the old tales, should anyone like, I'm on the xbone and my GT is the same as my name. Thanks, again, fellow guardians, veterans and scrubs.

When I reached max level of 20 in the vaulus t'aurk strike on my hunter. I was using blade dancer. Those gold letters made me so incredibly happy. Now it means nothing... I'm done with destiny, at least for now.

34 Replies-Auto rifles being OP -Loot cave -FOREVER 29 -being excited for reset Tuesday -Mat farming -the original intro/title music being awesome -Iron bankruptcy (everything cost glimmer in IB) -First arc burn nightfall in the summoning pits being crazy hard -having time to do anything IRL at exotic chest in VoG because everyone is switching characters -vanguard mentor missives -handcannons could snipe -Xur selling useful things -black hammer being more exotic than most exotics (that og white nail perk) -fighting skolas and his "space aids" -rockets mcdickface before his nerf -cheesing bridges -trials adept weapons having elementals -feeling like a total badass when I first picked up the sword in Crotas End and that epic music started playing -i've prob forgotten more than I can remember about year one

Got my gally from phogoth after 800 hours! Love that guy phogoth. Got my vex mythoclast from pushing atheon off the edge. Beating crota on hard after three hours was definitely a high point haha Getting the helmet on VOG was also a great moment.... So many it's hard to remember :)

Yeah, you didn't get to go through the Vault of Glass a million times for all the gear just to have it made useless when The Dark Below came out. Then you didn't do The Dark Below a million times for all the gear just to have it made useless when The Taken King came out. But if you play hard enough and long enough, you'll get to collect all that fancy gear...just to have it made useless when the next whatever-it-is comes out. You want to know what the best part about Destiny is? Finding a good consistent group of friends to collect all that crap with. Too bad Bungie's nonsense will drive all them away. On to greener pastures.

Whilst I've enjoyed the new content, I prefer most of the year 1 mechanics. I miss my raid team, nearly all have moved on to other things and haven't returned. I miss my vex mythoclast (not when it was OP but when it was a viable option) as its so unique. I also miss having a point to complete nightfalls as now they are simply not worth it. That said I still enjoy the game, just not as much as I used to.

Jumping into the Vault of Glass hard mode for the first time with a team I'd never played with was interesting. Half way through the Templar fight our relic runner goes down and I grab it to save from wiping and we finish the fight with me having never run relic to that point.

The aggravation at trying to find ten rare or better fusion rifles to break down for my Pocket Infinity exotic bounty and being pissed every time my special engrams decrypted into shotguns or sniper rifles. My absolute elation when I got my first Fatebringer. Hand cannons are my favorite primary so I was all about it. Then the next week killing the Templar and having [i]two[/i] drop at the same time from hard mode. Opening the exotic chest in the Vault twice in one day and having a Gjallarhorn drop both times. That one kinda made my pecker tingle. My favorite moment was completing the Vault of Glass for the very first time in late October of '15. I still play with 3 of the guys on that team. Passing over Gjallarhorn when Xur sold it for the very first time, because why would I take up my exotic weapon slot with a rocket launcher? Buying the Ice Breaker from Xur the very first time it was sold and finding out shortly after how powerful it really was.

I remember exploring the dark below thrall abyss with fresh new guardians. We had so much fun just tryna find our way out. We spent countless hours trying to do the abyss and the bridge that we just invited someone who fought us how to do the little glitch to despawn the enemies. Then finally getting my vex on my second hard mode. It was so fun, now ttk is a big joke.

I remember being the one guy on everyones friends list that hated me because every gun that they wanted i got. Ghally, last word, thorn, icebreak, vex, black hammer, word of crota, fatebringer, patience etc. i had most of the guns people grinded for. It was awesome being needed in a raid as a hunter in crota, great when all you needed was ice breaker for oracles. I loved having a large group of friends and being in a clan that we all got together regularly. Getting almost every exotic that ppl wanted or legendary gun or gear made me happy and when it came down to people just giving up in the game and people crying about nerfing and needing to pay another 40 for the new expansion killed it for me. I just go with the flow and the new ppl in destiny think they have it rough when they have hawksaw, black spindle, hung jury, doctrine passing, and every gun that melts a guardian with every quest or drop. Year 2 trials is so much harder cause there are less exotics to compete with and a select list of legendary guns that destroy ppl. Strikes used to be twice as long, now they are like mission times. Raids now arent as fun cause now it feels like every lfg you find now is like a one night stand. New guardians cant keep a team anymore or a clan. I miss year one when Scrota and the maze was the fun parts.

When I got Vex Methoclast from my very first VOG run greatest day I sh[i]t myself and my beloved Ice Breaker when Night Fall actually gave out good rewards still sits in my inventory can't bring myself to dismantle it

The best moment of Destiny is when everybody passed up Ghorn when Xur sold it, I just wanted an exotic so I bought it. Little did everybody know that weapon was going to be a crutch for a very long time.
