Only 3% of the Community even participates in ToO. Bungie fail.

Bungie, according to your "Statistics of the Week", 820,986 people participated in ToO this weekend, and of those, 133,444 made it to The Lighthouse. So, using your (bogus) statistic that 25 million people are playing Destiny, that means that only 3% of the Community even participates in this PvP endgame content. Moreover, less than 1% of the Community enjoy the rewards of Mercury! Do you consider these numbers some kind of success? You shouldn't. What you've created at the expense of the entire Community - given that every minute spent devoted to ToO development and maintenance is time/energy away from the rest of the game - is an endgame activity that a miniscule fraction of the Community even tries. I am interested in hearing other folks' opinions on whether and how ToO could be made more accessible to more people. I have two suggestions that are sure to raise the hackles of the ToO pros: 1. Once you go flawless on a particular character, that character is no longer eligible to compete in ToO until the next weekend. For those of you badass enough to do it, you can take all three of your Guardians to The Lighthouse, you simply can't keep playing on the same character once he/she has been there. 2. Provide optional matchmaking. Perhaps, go so far as to have two separate ToO: pre-made fireteams and matchmade fireteams. Hell, you could even slightly reduce the quality of the rewards in the matchmade Trials league, though this seems unnecessary, given that going flawless would be arguably harder with a matchmade team of randoms. Now, these suggestions will piss-off anyone who already thinks this game caters to casual players - which it really doesn't; a game with this much grind can't be enjoyed casually - but understand that my motivation here is to challenge Bungie to really use these numbers they vomit at us each week, and ask whether what they are doing is working. Ninety-seven percent - that's 24,250,000 players! - don't even step foot in ToO. Successful endgame content, Bungie? I think not.

  • I won't even bother reading any of the other posts in thread......the fact that almost every time I see a guy in regular crucible with a SH!t connection he has Osiris gear tells me I don't want any part of it. It's obvious how probably 50% of the "winners" achieve anything from that fact, and all the Osiris players who've mentioned bad connection enemy teams in other threads.

    • trials may give endgame gear but its not as op or really good this time around as in HoW. pvp players have trials and pve players have the raid. both even. matter of fact trials is going to be useless when challenge mode comes out and has 320-330 light gear. they might update trials to reflect on that or they may not. people complaining just want to go flawless because they cant or are pve players. bungie learned from their mistakes in HoW. the raid gives gear just as good as if not better than the trials gear. so pvp players have their thing and pve players have their thing. dont see pvp players complaining about the raid, but plenty of pve players complaining about trials. the only problem trials has is lag. thats it.

The #1 suggestion is really iffy because people do like to help others get to the lighthouse, but in the same instance you don't want that same guy/girl to keep taking away the opportunity for others to go 9-0. So that one is up for debate. Otherwise here's a few from me: -reduce the 9-0 to 7-0 to make it less of a hassle to get to the lighthouse(and just to make the whole #7 fetish for Bungie) -put in random maps per new match as that would make things unpredictable and play to peoples different strengths/weaknesses -make the dropped ToO primaries in the matches have ALL random perks so that the lighthouse primaries are more appealing(or at least acceptable) -get rid of the new matchmaking type, as that has alienated a lot of players from one another, and has more chance to pair teams with people from other countries, thereby increasing chances for matches with terrible connection These might make ToO more appealing in my opinion, but mainly what I'd like to see is 9-0 get reduced to 7-0... like why 9-0? Pointless really, I honestly thought when ToO first came out it'd be 7-0 because Bungie loves that number. Oh wait, it just occurred to me: Grind...

      • I've been playing since beta and have yet to step into ToO. Why? Because the months leading up to the release, PvP was already being exploited by connection issues and lag switching. Creating a mode that gives rewards for win streaks when these issues already existed was a stupid idea and I realized the frustration wasn't worth the rewards (kinda sums up all of Destiny really). I don't feel like I'm missing out concidering every time it comes around there's pages of rage posts from being lag switched or connection dropped with only 1 more win needed to go to the lighthouse.

        • Bungie have absolutely annihilated our pve favourite weapons for pvp kids who cried about their use in pvp. So that's your answer. They are trying their -blam!-ing BEST to force this game into a pvp market. So just quit if you play pve. They will never, ever hear you.

          • As soon as ToO came out back in HoW I said... I will never play that. The idea of a game mode where I have to win nine in a row sounds terrible and infuriating. And honestly I don't want to have to pay for a new controller after rage sets in. So then one time I played with random people for a while and we decided to get together and do ToO. So we get to the end and guess what only one of us was able to get to the lighthouse. What happened you ask? He got booted right as we got matched in a game so he didn't take a loss but we did. That right there made me say... Never again. So far I have held true to that one. I won't play it again. There is no point if you don't go to the lighthouse.

            • Trials and iron banner gear is too under powered to matter, it should drop or be sold at 300 defense and attack. Make it like it was in year one so those of us who don't have time, or can't stand raiding for two hours for NOTHING can raise our light over 292-295. End of match drops are also not frequent or at an impressive enough level to warrant the grind. They say they've adjusted iron banner for next time.....I will run it again but if I don't get more than 2 class items I'm done!

            • I don't ever see myself getting invite to the light house cause to many lagging players, cheaters and trying to get a flawless game is hard. Bungie have the numbers then need to change up ToO where more players can get invite or at least win 5-0 flawless then maybe more will play ToO. The beat solution is to have the bounties become daily instead a one time thing and have to wait for next ToO.

I played trials before the TTK and my biggest complaint was the trouble I had just being able to play it and I don't mean all the loosing matches and such. It was the hours of my life wasted messaging people from the100, destinylfg, and posting on these forum about looking for a group. Fact is, of the 3% who play trails, 2.9% are players who are so caught up that they go online and check stats of people and won't bother with you if your stats aren't so great. So in other words, simply because I never got to play much, my Stats were great so finding a group was that much harder. Talk about a lousy situation. So, how does someone even get a chance to raise their stats if noone will help you out? Anyhow, over all, based on the low stats, and lack of promise it represents to us who struggle to even just try it, trials if a fail in my book. So much of a fail that you can almost cout it as an equal opportunity infringement.

              • The 25 million number is how many they sold , 3 million give or take is how many play regularly 2 hours a day from the stats they post which puts that percentage up to more like 25% vs the 3 % you propose . Thats the problem with using stats like this for yer argument as crunching numbers have many formulas for using those stats to get the numbers you want to make an argument look more or less correct.

I say once you buy the card and activate the boons and go through one match you are ineligible to buy another card after deleting it until next week. You either finish the card and deal with the loss you got and wait till next week ofcourse this is for each character but thats rewards for if you grind the game

                  • I agree... I think the 25 million figure is just boasting for how many people actually gave them money. It's obvious they don't care how many people actually are playing, but instead, how many people are paying. I have a question for you since Lost Sols doesn't seem to want to answer my question...I would like to see a segment on consumerism in the next podcast. In particular, if continued support (giving more money) or not supporting (a boycott) is the key to bringing about change or improvement to destiny/video game industry. Thanks.

                  • I realize this has been beaten to death but I refuse to play trials because of the trolls and the lag. There's nothing valuable enough in trials to make me want to tolerate the frustrations associated with this event. Honestly tho, there's nothing they could offer to get me in there because of how its setup. Your average PvP player has no hope of going flawless or ever seeing the lighthouse, so what's the point?

                    • I could not agree more with your first suggestion. I can't stand the people who make a hobby out of spending the weekend ruining other people's passages. Once you go flawless, you should either not have access on that character, or be put into a separate matchmaking pool consisting only of those who have gone flawless (I like this one better).

                      • Once you complete your passage you shouldn't be allowed to play anymore. Trials of Osiris' greatest reward is going to the lighthouse, so once you go 9-0 why would they let you play again and try to go to the already unlocked Mercury.

                      • The "25 million" means REGISTERED USERS, which 3/4 of them quit after level 15 in vanilla. I can name at least 5 friends who tried destiny for about a week, and then went back to CoD. There is a reason why they aren't revealing the actual numbers.

                      • Bungie should not reduce the rewards of trials matchmaking because in pve you do three strikes and get about the same if not more rewards than 7 trials games. And no way 25 million people play this game, maybe 3 million. And if you don't want to play trials you don't have to. That's why people don't. And trials is supposed to be competitive so matchmaking would be stupid because you would get people that always quit out. And if you go flawless on one character you don't need to be kicked out of trials on that character. That would make playing pvp no fun. If you do a weekly heroic on one of your characters you don't get kicked out. In fact you actually get more rewards. Bungie favors pve even though you might not see it. Getting kicked out of trials on a character would make it even worse. If you can't go flawless then go back to pve. Stop complaining and trying to make trials easier. It's a competitive game mode. Come on.

                      • I seriously doubt there's 25 million players that actively Destiny. Maybe 1 million, but that's pushing it. From what I've been hearing, ToO isn't worth it, because the rewards are terrible in comparison to playing regular PvP. What happened with Year 2? It seems that Destiny has objectively gotten worse in every aspect, and has turned me off of buying any other Bungie related video game.
