Going for Savior, Need Comp Advice (UPDATE!)

UPDATE: Got to Heroic last night! Thanks everyone for your help, this was awesome!! (For the curious, I rolled bottom tree Striker with OEM, Dust Rock, Trust, and 21% Delirium. Lost once, then won three straight.) ------- I noticed that I'm only a few triumphs away from earning my first title. Super exciting! Unfortunately, this means I have to get the Komodo, and that means I have to play comp up to Heroic. I'm okay in PVP, but I really don't play it unless I have to, and I went 1-8 yesterday digging into comp for the first time. So. I'm in over my head. What advice do y'all have- loadout, strategies, builds, mindset, etc. -for a solo Titan trying to earn enough glory for the Komodo?

  • Pretty simple. Play freelance, stick by your allies (except when AoE attacks are incoming) and don't be a liability to your fireteam. Just use what works best for you. If you have to meta scum, then meta scum. They're doing it too.

    1. Play Freelance. That way you don’t have to play against teams on headsets. 2. Play the meta. Unless you are a murder-machine with some off meta weapon, comp is not the place to experiment. 3. STICK WITH YOUR TEAM!!! Comp is a team game. The goal is to win, not pad individual stats. Nothing make me angrier than players that run off like headless chickens, or wander off when you set up for a fight and you’re expecting them to have your back...and then you get shot in it. Even good players are guilty of this. Thinking they’re slaying out, and all they are doing is leaving their teammates vulnerable to getting picked off. 4. Your abilities are precious. You can waste them in 6s, no big deal. But a well timed super can literally be a game changer or snap the neck of a team on the ropes. Three times yesterday I wiped entire teams with Stormtrance. As you play more you’ll get a better sense of when to use your super to make a play. 5. KNOW THE MAPS. Absent-mindedly wandering into a long sight line can get you sniper, and stumbling at round a blind corner can get you shot gunned. You not only cost your team a cheap death, you leave your team mates vulnerable until you can Respawn and regroup. 6. Manage your streaks. If you get a win streak going... ride it. If you get on a major losing streak you’re probably in an unfavorable (for you) player pool...get out. Go do something else and come back. Don’t squander your progress. 7. In OT, if you have a life advantage, get to the capture zone and force them to come to you. A good player will lead you in a pointless goosechase until you stumble into an ambush. Just don’t run up and stand in it. Be smart.

  • Do solo queue. Getting 1500 glory is pretty easy. Just don't expect to win every game. Play with your team mates and concentrate fire. I'm guessing the linear fusion kills will take longer

    • Comp is pretty watered down now. Me not good a PVP player but even I was able to get to fabled for Randy’s throwing knife. I have this part of the quest to finish and I’ll get my Komodo. I’m not even dreading it despite how much I hate Comp. As a titan; OEM, dust rock blues, recluse and ward life should do it. Bottom tree striker too. Play like a sweaty -blam!- and you’ll get to whatever level in no time.

    • You're gonna hate this but you'll have to play dirty to win. Trust me it sucks but it's the only way to get what you want. If you have jotun use it. If you got a shotgun you like. Use that. Anything that can help you win. Use. It's like the dark side lol.

    • Stick with your team, unless they do really stupid stuff. Use whatever weapons you're comfortable with, although double primary will punish you. If you can snipe, then do snipe. Getting a pick from a good safe distance is a good way to gain life advantage. Use your super wisely. Got your super, great use it. Last man standing? Enemy have lives left? Don't do it, wait until the next round. Play dirty. Lord of wolves, erentil, whatever. Don't get tilted, ignore teabags, hate mail all of it. Stay cool and play. Losing, it happens, if you start to go on a losing streak, walk away, have a brew chill, then come back to it later. You got this.

    • On top of what Budgiezilla said, all the ranks up through Fabled have a floor, so you won't drop below a certain point even if you go on a losing streak. On top of that, you earn bonus Glory at weekly reset, so long as you played at least 3 matches without quitting in the previous week, to help you along the way; if you find your Glory is above 890, it's better to quit and let the 160 Glory points at reset take you up to Heroic rather than risking another loss. I believe most of the information in this article is accurate, but not 100% certain: https://www.shacknews.com/article/111876/crucible-glory-ranks-and-point-requirements-destiny-2

      • Loadout wise. Your a titan, use one eyed mask if you have it. Even after the nerf it's very good. Weapons, personally I'd avoid auto rifles and scouts, they're just not in a good place. You want to cover as much distance with your loadout as you can. Pulse rifle with a shotgun is a solid combo that covers mid long, all the way down to face to face. Build: spec as much recovery as you can and at least 60 resilience, ignore mobility. Bottom tree striker is probably the best titan subclass for pvp, but I don't titan much so if you prefer something else then go with it.
