Alright prokillers, here's your chance to school somebody who will actually appreciate it.
Quick backstory; Last time I played an FPS in PVP was when Marathon was hot property, so some of my problems may just be because I'm really rusty.
Anyway, what's the deal with PVP in Destiny? I feel like I'm just doing it all wrong...every time I blink somebody gets me with a one-shot kill and it doesn't seem to matter much what weapon they're using, or what I'm trying to do to stay alive. None of my weapons feel anywhere near as powerful as what the other team is using. Honestly I really want to like the Destiny PvP experience, because I've got a sentimental attachment to Bungie and this game is lots of fun for me in PvE.
So help me out. How do I get the most out of this game? I've got military experience (which basically boils down to having a great deal of training in following instructions) and lots of time to kill once the game ships (retired), so if you folks can boil this particular PvP system down to some basic tactical and strategic elements I'll be able to pick up on it and have fun with it, but right now I'm feeling pretty worn down after having the brakes beat off me repeatedly in the beta.
Thanks in advance for your thoughts (and for the inevitable insults from the kids table).
p.s. Don't think I'm blaming the game...obviously people are winning at PvP, so the system works...I just down understand how it works yet, so I'm not one of them.

This thread is old. He hasn't been active since December I think.

It's all about head shots.

My stats aren't great, but I have fun. My tip: go to the forums and look at what people are crying the most about. Do that. I mean, they're probably going to be crying anyway, right?
-
1 ReplyJust cry to bungie they will make you a pro. I mean they help everyone else who cried...

1 ReplyFunniest thing in Pvp, regardless of who's playing once you get killed it seems like the other team has more powerful weapons. My advice is just remember. You're gonna die. Often. Once you get that through your head you can have fun with it. You will learn when to charge and when to defend. Have fun with it is the best advice any one can give. It is just a game. Otherwise red death might be the best advice.
-
1 ReplyOne of the main reasons is your guns, play pve a lot to get guns like red death, thorn, or word of crota for thorn, and heavys such as against all odds and jolders hammer. Another thing is map awareness, know the spawns, know the right points to control, and know high traffic areas. Head shots. Are one of the most important part of pvp, snipers are one shots, and alot of high impact pulse rifles are a two burst. Just get used to the game mechanics and how people play the game, lots of people will leave the game if you are with a group of friends that know your play style. My friend and I played double skirmish and 10/12 games we played the other team ended up leaving. But really just have fun playing the game and know the maps, you will have a much easier time if you get better guns as well.

2 RepliesAnswer these questions and use the answers to help u in PvP 1. What Primary Gun do you feel most comfortable with? (Hand cannon, pulse rifle, auto rifle, or scout rifle.) If u chose hand cannon use thorn or last word if u have it. I recommended bad juju or red death if u like pulse rifles. I have no suggestions for auto rifles because they were nerfed pretty hard. For scout rifle I would say the vision of confluence. 2.Are u more of a safe, staying-back kind of player or close combat player. If u stay back most of the time use a sniper. I usually use black hammer. If u are a close combat player, use shotguns. Two of them I recommend it Felwinter's Lie or two to the morgue. 3. Do u like quick kills with rocket launchers or little slower kills with machine guns? I prefer radeghast's fury or any tracking launcher. For machine guns two I recommend is against all odds and deviant gravity( dead orbit machine gun) Those should settle your combat setup. If u are a Titan, use armamentarium for ur exotic slot If u are a warlock, use either obsidian mind or heart of the praxic Fire. If u are a hunter I recommend mask of the third man for bladedancing and achlyophage symbiote for gunslingin' I hope that helped

A quick crash course. Step 1 learn the maps, very important. Once you know the maps you can developed on the fly strategy based on enemy positions. Step 2 Funnel enemies into choke points. Grenades become force multipliers in those situations. On that note, learning your grenades is also important, for example the lighting grenade of a titan does insane amounts of damage if you stick it to the wall behind entrenched enemies. Those are what I have off the top of my head. Also, read Tzu Sun, which you might have already.

Because reasons.

It helps A LOT if you have a team of your own instead of joining randoms. Communication is always important. Teamwork is key. If you want to solo then just do rumbles.
-
1 ReplyThe two most important thing are practice and headshots. If you like auto rifles (they are my favorite) you want a high impact and high stability auto rifle. You basically want high impact on everything. Go for the headshots. They give you about a 45-55% damage increase. Don't play in the Dark Below PvP yet. It takes great skill to not die tons. This is my load out: Class: hunter Subclass: bladedancer Primary: auto rifle Secondary: shotgun Heavy: machine gun Bladedancer: go for recovery

2 RepliesLol I always get in top 3 every game. You just got know what your doing and use ur radar. Its so helpful. USE IT!
-
Move slowly and with your team. Use your radar. When you see red on the outline...STOP. Ready your weapon and figure out where the enemy is coming from. Don't rush him. Try to throw a grenade if you have one as he rounds the corner. Anticipate the movement of the enemy and maintain enough distance to survive. Stick together and use grenades wisely and you should at least go positive.

1. Find a team. Honestly, the Crucible kind of sucks playing solo. One way or another, you will end up on the bad team or facing other teams. Try your absolute best to find at least two or three other people to play with. Also, talking to people just relieves stress. It makes it much more enjoyable. 2. Adjust your sensitivity. My main problem. I used to play on 8 sensitivity. I consistently missed shots and overall couldn't hit the broadside of a moisture evaporator. I took it all the way down to 4 and played more passively. This instantly increased my kills and also forced me to play more cautiously. 3. Have a goal. Tell yourself you are going to at least get a certain amount of kills or have a certain K/D every game. This is a serious motivator. 4. Find your weapons. At this point, exotic hand cannons rule the crucible. Mainly Thorn and The Last Word. These cater to more of an aggressive play style. I used a scout and a shotgun for the longest time. Fang of Ir Yut, the Rapier, or maybe the Badger would be great choices. These types of weapons provide a more cautious play style, with a shotty for close range engagements, until you feel comfortable to maybe switch to a hand cannon. 5. Have fun. All these aforementioned things don't do jack shit if you are pissed. Trust me, I know from personal experience. Chill out, and accept that it will take plenty of time and practice to become good at the crucible. I've been playing since launch and I am still mediocre. Hope I helped at least a little bit :)

I'm 23, and I've been playing video games since my brother introduced me to Duck Hunt on his Nintendo. Now, with the right weapon, Destiny PvP is pretty similar. That weapon is a shotgun. (If you can't beat 'em, join 'em. At least until you get the hang of it.) I've played all kinds of games, mostly MMO's, but I've also played the call of duty franchise for years. Personally, I like to play straight up team deathmatch until I get a feel for the maps. Knowing the maps is half the battle. You've got a guy running full speed at you with a shotgun, and your instinct is to back up. The only problem with that is, you're standing on the edge of a cliff. So know your surroundings. Then you need to pick a game type that's right for you. I get bored with team death, and people end up corner camping anyway which is just frustrating. I like a good objective based game. In Destiny, that's Control. The statistics show that the majority of the community would agree with that statement. With an objective based game type, you're not really playing against the enemy. You're using the map and your position to predict the enemies movement. That is your biggest goal. You familiarize yourself with the maps, the spawn points, and the paths to each objective, and you will be miles ahead of 80% of the PvP players. When it comes to an actual encounter, you should focus more on making them miss than hitting them. I'm constantly backing up when I'm engaged. If you've got a shotgun closing in on you, side step. They almost never see it coming, and it gives you time to get them in your sights. Lastly, remember that when you get backed into a corner, you have one hell of a vertical leap.

Destiny is a lot faster than some games like halo when it comes to PvP, u just got to get used to it. and doing well in crucible depends a lot on ur load out. Try to find the best combination of guns and armor that suits ur play style. Good luck.
-
Edited by TheArtfulToddger: 4/16/2015 9:49:23 PMLearn the maps, learn where people like to sit and how they move around the map e.g in the anomaly, people sprint everywhere and will come around the corners very fast whereas in a map like blind watch people tend to edge around corners making use of grenades and supers due to high level of CQC weapons
-
Just find ur own style of playing dont try to copy some1 else for me i just use last word or thorn i play as hunter gunslinger double jump special:sniper heavy:machine gun You just have to find a weapon u can use better then any1 else if that dont work the u just bad 😅

You didn't power up the bass-cannon and "well what is it."
-
Because your not using OP crutch guns like everyone else.
