Alright prokillers, here's your chance to school somebody who will actually appreciate it.
Quick backstory; Last time I played an FPS in PVP was when Marathon was hot property, so some of my problems may just be because I'm really rusty.
Anyway, what's the deal with PVP in Destiny? I feel like I'm just doing it all wrong...every time I blink somebody gets me with a one-shot kill and it doesn't seem to matter much what weapon they're using, or what I'm trying to do to stay alive. None of my weapons feel anywhere near as powerful as what the other team is using. Honestly I really want to like the Destiny PvP experience, because I've got a sentimental attachment to Bungie and this game is lots of fun for me in PvE.
So help me out. How do I get the most out of this game? I've got military experience (which basically boils down to having a great deal of training in following instructions) and lots of time to kill once the game ships (retired), so if you folks can boil this particular PvP system down to some basic tactical and strategic elements I'll be able to pick up on it and have fun with it, but right now I'm feeling pretty worn down after having the brakes beat off me repeatedly in the beta.
Thanks in advance for your thoughts (and for the inevitable insults from the kids table).
p.s. Don't think I'm blaming the game...obviously people are winning at PvP, so the system works...I just down understand how it works yet, so I'm not one of them.

Its ok... let me tell you a little story. Bought Halo and I was never good at it. Kept playing and playing because it was so fun and I got better and better and better. My PvP skills got sharper, aim, strafing, map flow, spawns, weapon spawns. I'm not the best at Destiny but my crucible skills come from years of playing Slayer in halo!!! I use the same tactics I've learned over the years of playing halo.

I think you need to find a weapon that suits you the most. I just got TLW from xur (xurners FTW) along with LDR and have been doing way better than I did before with most any gun. Now I just need a solid PvP heavy.

best I can suggest is pay attention to your motion tracker, flank when possible, and don't throw your body at whatever choke point because you're surrounded by teammates and feel like you have support. the flank is always better, few teams of ransoms watch their side approaches. also, try all three classes out. if I take my Titan into the crucible, I'm going to do terrible. my hunter is passable, but my warlock is what keeps me with a positive kd and enjoying matches the class you initially picked may not be the right one for your actual natural play style. when heavy ammo is announced, don't camp directly in front of the box. keep an eye out for those running towards your team who would love the chance for a multikill sometimes helping your team by ensuring they receive the heavy ammo is more important than you being there to get it yourself. once you're confident, try to be the guy attacking the other teams heavy ammo spawn, as a lot of people there will be camping directly in front of the box looking at it(don't understand why so many people do this. stay aware of your surroundings!) you said you were using blink, which opens up a nice tactic with a shotgun and decent sensitivity you can run towards people, blink over them, spin around and kill them. better players might shoot you down during the first jump and react faster to turn around themselves, but a lot of players start frantically spinning trying to locate you. with a shotgun, you should be able to kill them while they're disoriented.

It just takes practice start with control then move to rumble rumble will help sharpen skills that you learn in control

Learning Destiny PvP is a lot like learning to ride a bike. You have to crash and fail a few times before you get the hang of it.

1 ReplyYou've got to go through a lot of painful matches to get a feel for it. obviously using supers and the specialized class jumps/boosts is a different mechanic to use than a lot of games. Lag sometimes plays a huge factor (beware the red bars) but there are a lot of very skilled players out there, on both systems. There's no one-size-fits-all solution or build. you just have to find what subclass is the most comfortable for you to use and what weapons fit your engagement style the best (i.e. long, mid or close range). I try to switch mine up and lately i've hit a stride that is really increasing my KD but i'm not getting quite as many total kills (not a camper, just playing smarter). If you want to get better, especially in stand offs with people, run a bunch of Rumble. It sucks at first, and you might get teabagged a lot at first if you get taken to town, but after a while it definitely makes you much more aware of your surroundings and how to move while shooting. In control DO NOT take all 3 capture points, it always messes up the enemy spawn. Also, unless an enemy is directly on top of you, wait for teammates that are close before you pop heavy ammo; I always have randoms grab it for themselves instead of waiting for me even though I am literally running towards them (BASTARDS!). I'm no expert but I always seem to be improving despite my limited PvP experience. I also have a lot more fun playing with guys from my clan, whether they are good or not, and enjoying that time makes me play better (usually). Sorry for the long post. Good luck out there and good shooting.

Use cover, Corners are your friend. Corners are also your enemies, but theyre more your friends first.

Playing defensively and sticking close to your teammates is important.

Best advice I can give, is to USE YOUR RADAR! For you to be a great player, constantly, that has to be like your second nature to look up every few seconds.

3 RepliesPlay more halo style then COD style

Simple math Fist of panic + panic bomb+too op hand cannons × shotguns = me and you sucking.lol

The reason why your so bad at a videogame is because your better in real life which in my opinion is more desirable

Edited by Yoshi: 4/20/2015 6:57:36 PMFist of Panic and Panic Bomb. Panic as in you're about to lose a 1 on 1 because you missed your felwinters lie and/or all of your thorn shots.

I am by no means good at pvp on destiny. My kd ratio and w/l ratio will prove that. Lol I do believe I find myself doing better wen I treat destiny like halo.. Aim for the head. Head shots are key. I have prevailed unbroken a few times by not charging up and aiming the head. I was NOT camping in a corner I was just simply not getting up close to meet someone's shotgun. Hah. Not sure if this helped at all but that's what I've noticed. Head shots seem to help the most.

Your playing's bad, and you should feel bad.

Edited by highlander1590: 4/20/2015 7:07:21 PMI am by no means good at PVP (as my K/D will attest) but I have done my share to fulfill bounties and I like the Iron Banner. I have had a few good matches along the way though. Not sure what class you are using but take advantage of your supers. For example when I run my warlock I like to use my sunsinger and get in close and mele enemy players. I also try to stick them with grenades as a first option . . .even before I aim my weapon. If you can stick them with one . . . they just about always will die. People will give you all kinds of good tips that will help you out as there are many answers to your question. Lastly I suggest trying the Iron Banner. I like that much better there you can take advantage of having a higher level than some other players and you can really take make good use of any exotic weapons that you may have.

OK first off I'm absolutely terrible but one thing that has helped me, in control at least, learn the maps. Learn spawning locations, heavy drop sites, and areas that are heavily trafficked. Ex: rusted lands control, grab A asap, heavy is near by, prime hunting location with relatively easy kills to prepare for and fairly easy to defend. Another place that is a hot control spot is b in asylum but that is a difficult one to take as well as defend but heavy is right there.

2 RepliesBecause pvp in Destiny plays way too much like COD, or BF multi. Ur gear dont matter, just ur guns. So if ur good @ COD, & BF and have top tier guns ur good. Sometimes COD, & BF experience and luck helps if u dont have Top Tier guns...

Can't land headshots

I'm not an amazing PvP player in destiny but I was pretty decent in wow and you have to take your weapons perks into consideration. From what I saw, you don't have many strong PvP exotics. Try using red death and last word. From what I saw those were the best you have. In destiny, skill falls second to how good your weapons are. Clown Cartridge and Final Round aren't really great handcannon perks. Luck in the chamber would be much better. I'll equip 3 different classes with the perks you want for each weapon type of weapon(except handcannons, just use thorn/last word) on each character. Feel free to look to get a good idea you perks you want on certain types of guns. Also consider the guns stats. This isn't like most FPS games.
