Alright prokillers, here's your chance to school somebody who will actually appreciate it.
Quick backstory; Last time I played an FPS in PVP was when Marathon was hot property, so some of my problems may just be because I'm really rusty.
Anyway, what's the deal with PVP in Destiny? I feel like I'm just doing it all wrong...every time I blink somebody gets me with a one-shot kill and it doesn't seem to matter much what weapon they're using, or what I'm trying to do to stay alive. None of my weapons feel anywhere near as powerful as what the other team is using. Honestly I really want to like the Destiny PvP experience, because I've got a sentimental attachment to Bungie and this game is lots of fun for me in PvE.
So help me out. How do I get the most out of this game? I've got military experience (which basically boils down to having a great deal of training in following instructions) and lots of time to kill once the game ships (retired), so if you folks can boil this particular PvP system down to some basic tactical and strategic elements I'll be able to pick up on it and have fun with it, but right now I'm feeling pretty worn down after having the brakes beat off me repeatedly in the beta.
Thanks in advance for your thoughts (and for the inevitable insults from the kids table).
p.s. Don't think I'm blaming the game...obviously people are winning at PvP, so the system works...I just down understand how it works yet, so I'm not one of them.

Edited by Andy2Spooky5me: 1/24/2015 6:59:03 PMHigher leveled players will have advantages because of gear that gives more strength, int, disc. their supers charge faster, melee and grenades. they probably have better guns such as exotics and vex. which can really outgun people if you aim for headshots. the vex with the right upgrades can hit 45-51 while other guns can be hitting 20-30. handcannons like thorn and TLW and hawkmoon come into play with 2-3 headshots you can be killed. guns are a big factor in pvp because if you can push out more damage than your opponent then you will win the gunfights. you just need to hit your shots and hope that the enemy miss some of theirs. destiny isn't at all about objectives. you can have all 3 flags captured and still lose the game if you don't get kills, the flags are just their to multiply points gained from kills so in the end all PvP is kill based.

1 ReplyI used to just run into objectives or busy areas with my shotgun and hope for the best but never really managed to get much more than a 1.5 KD doing this! Now I've found these are good tactics to adopt in order to come out with higher k/d after games! : hanging back with a scout rifle to pick off players or to thin the ranks of the opposing team before charging in I've found to be very useful! it's important to not be afraid to run!! If your capturing an objective and you see a bunch of the other team coming towards you get out of there! At most you'll get 1 possibly 2 kills before some kid nova bombs the objective! I like to try run to my nearest team mate for support Grenades!!! Probably do most damage with grenades especially seeking ones! Try to get into the rhythm of grenading rooms before entering. I have often gained double or triple kills from doing this where before I'd have been massacred Stick with teammates as this makes you more of a threat and allows you to quickly deal with opposing players on their own! But don't stay too close to avoid all getting wiped be some supper attack:) I tend to hang back a bit and try to keep an eye on what's happening Most importantly keep an eye out for the heaven ammo drops!!!! These can allow for easy 5 kill streaks ( use a machine gun for PvP) learn where the drops are and as soon as they are inbound get over to it!!!!!!! Hope I've helped :)

Learn the maps

For me the only reason I'm good at crucible is A. Map knowledge And B. I just play loosely. I know it sounds weird but just let it go. I can't really explain it. Just go fast. Don't think about it just do it.
-
Edited by SweetZombieJesus: 1/24/2015 2:44:36 PMI agree with the previous reply... Map knowledge is huge. My K/D was barely .5 before I started using map space more efficiently. After that... Stick with teammates if you're playing a team based match. Always helps. And really breakdown what weapons best suit the space you're playing. I don't run with a Mythocast, so I tend to change up my rotation to suit the environment. Shores of Time I tend to run with accurate long rage stuff. Truth or Ghorn as my heavy, LDR for a secondary, and hawkmoon or vanquisher or bad juju as my primary. That map... People camp in the back corner between zone C and B... So satisfying to nail those bastards... LDR is a beast!

.92 K/D in control isn't terrible. You're pulling your weight. A lot of the PVP is understanding maps and other player tactics. Practice makes it better, also the right perk choices make all the difference. Pick the right engagements for your loadout. If you're using an autorifle don't pick a fight with a sniper from across the map. If you're scout rifling don't close the distance. So on and so forth.

2 RepliesThe description of destiny pvp is shotgun melee..... Or melee shotgun lol when I see post that say pvp players are better the pve players it's funny lol Good pvp players really don't exist 99 % of my deaths r from a shotgun And the other 1% is from thorn, fusion rifles, vex and sorus..... If I die from anything else I am shocked

2 RepliesMan don't worry. Here is my tip if you want to become from noob to pro in 20minutes if you are lucky
Find Vex and you are pro. You will melt everyone.
Edited by Hitchenson: 1/24/2015 2:30:22 PMHow I got a 2.84 overall K/D: NEVER. STOP. DANCING. Ignore the use an AR comments, though. ARs are trash/for trash; get a good handcannon.

1 ReplyUse and auto rifle or the vex and always keep running never stop moving

1 ReplyEdited by Average: 1/2/2015 5:06:38 PMi wouldn't sweat it. most of the people who are good at the crucible are good for one of a few reasons. one, they played halo and cod multiplayer a lot. destiny crucible is basically an extension of those games. two, they are extremely familiar with the maps, spawn spots and heavy ammo spots. three, they go in with groups that also meet the previous two criteria and they communicate while taking advantage of the first two criteria. and lastly, they just know how to play as cheap as possible. shotguns for instance, they are basically completely useless in normal pve gameplay, but for some reason you get one-shotted by them in the crucible. they also know other methods of how to play cheap with all sorts of other weapons that are of no use in normal gameplay. i wouldn't worry about it. destiny is about raids and strikes, man. you can be the best crucible player in the world from the day the game comes out, and a lot of them still have a 29 or 30 next to their name and the game has been out for months now

First have decent internet connection so everything is unkillable from lag, second get a good shotgun that has RANGE, third watch the radar and learn how it works
-
A few tips off the tops of my head are.. 1. Pay as much attention to you motion sensor as possible. 2. Try and stick to the edges of the map and not get yourself into spots where enemies can come from all angles. 3. Stick with teammates. I always make it a point to play support and be the guy to clean up or be back up when a teammate needs to back down. 4. Don't chase! If you see a guy by himself and can't take him down before he runs away. The chances are a teammate is going to come help or even worst.. spawn on top of him. So it's always best to avoid running in after people unless you have the numbers.

2 RepliesEdited by Wrath: 1/9/2015 12:42:16 PMFrom a top Hunter Watch your radar. Play slowly. Strafe and aim for the head - find a hive knight with a boomer on the moon and practice dodging his shots left and right while landing Headshots or practice. 1 ReplyJust get a SUROS. Once you've equipped an auto rifle, being good at the game isn't important, just hold down the trigger and use a panic when you're about to die.
-
2 RepliesPVP is useless. Anyone thinking they are something are pathetic!!!!!!!! Such a dumb but good game!
-
2 RepliesHey man, go to twitch.tv then click Destiny and watch pro players stream as they PVP.. I enjoy watching Wish You Luckk, he's number 1 World Wide in destiny crucible at the moment.

Because Destiny pvp sucks so bad lol pve is great though
-
I am sure I didn't write that but it sounds like me lol. I find there are some very OP attacks and weapons in PvP so always struggle with it and my reactions and coordination suck big time which doesn't help but despite all that I actually quite enjoy it.

Latency disadvantage because gaming networks are too -blam!- in cheap to use real dedicated servers. Halo 5 supposedly finally will use cloud servers. This is hard pvp...tough to learn. Makes it even harder when one night things seem ok and then the next you can't buy a kill. Try looking into your televisions input lag too. Might help shave a bit off. Certain settings can be adjusted and on some TV sets a certain port (usually PC) is faster. Most also have a gaming mode. If it seems like people are a step ahead all of the time maybe that will help. Maybe at some point we can have real servers instead of latency competition.

its just like anything the more you do it the better you will become no one starts out good

Git gud scrub. I kid. First thing is first, stop being a bullet sponge. In a one on one encounter, strafe side to side while shooting for the head. This means you have to get your aiming skill up. In a one on ??? focus on one person at time; find cover while doing this. Actually, in any weapons encounter you should be looking for cover. If there is none, run and slide. If you come around the corner and you immediately encounter someone, shoot a couple then, melee or vice versa. Also, stick with the group if possible but dont senselessly run into a room behind them when you know the enemy is there. You need to flank the enemy while your teammates soak up the bullets. Finally, here is my most important tip: PICK YOUR BATTLES. Learn when you need to escape with your life. You absolutely DO NOT NEED to kill everyone you encounter. When I learned this, my KD started rising.
-
I could give you the secret of how I obtained my outstanding K/D of 0.07. But than you'd have to kill me :8( Ed
-
What else do you suck?
-
Because it suck. Heavy ammo is overpowered. Fusion rifles are a bit overpowered they can oneshot from bulshit range. Not to begin with anoyying shotgun -blam!- with way too much ammo they can and are using it as an primarie wich is bulshit. If u kill somebody u see the kill 5 seconds later. No im not happy with the crucible
