Alright prokillers, here's your chance to school somebody who will actually appreciate it.
Quick backstory; Last time I played an FPS in PVP was when Marathon was hot property, so some of my problems may just be because I'm really rusty.
Anyway, what's the deal with PVP in Destiny? I feel like I'm just doing it all wrong...every time I blink somebody gets me with a one-shot kill and it doesn't seem to matter much what weapon they're using, or what I'm trying to do to stay alive. None of my weapons feel anywhere near as powerful as what the other team is using. Honestly I really want to like the Destiny PvP experience, because I've got a sentimental attachment to Bungie and this game is lots of fun for me in PvE.
So help me out. How do I get the most out of this game? I've got military experience (which basically boils down to having a great deal of training in following instructions) and lots of time to kill once the game ships (retired), so if you folks can boil this particular PvP system down to some basic tactical and strategic elements I'll be able to pick up on it and have fun with it, but right now I'm feeling pretty worn down after having the brakes beat off me repeatedly in the beta.
Thanks in advance for your thoughts (and for the inevitable insults from the kids table).
p.s. Don't think I'm blaming the game...obviously people are winning at PvP, so the system works...I just down understand how it works yet, so I'm not one of them.

Edited by Gorilla Warrior: 2/8/2015 5:20:36 PMYou will get better as you learn the maps. I had a k/d ratio below 1 until I started putting more value into each and every life. I've been able to get my clash k/d ratio up from 0.7 to 1.2 recently by just not throwing myself at the other team, desperate for a kill. I'm not usually the top scorer, but I pretty consistently have the least amount of deaths and combined with a positive k/d ratio I feel semi useful to my team in clash. Haha better than feeling embarrassed at the post match screen. I'm not good enough to play aggressively yet, but playing conservatively and reminding myself each life is important has helped in the short term at least.

Because you probably didn't play Halo CE up to Halo Reach.

What is your primary?

Step 1: find a fusion rifle, practically any will do Step 2: Shoot fusion rifle at opponents Step 3: profit Step 4: Drink the tears of everyone who hates on you. Step 5: profit even more

Alright if you're playing clash or control here are my biggest rules: 1. Teamwork really helps. Yes there are people who are good enough and can run around solo against a team of 6 and clean up. But if you're playing a team game, man use your team! Play with them, get kills together. That's how team games are designed no one expects you to be a hero and kill everyone yourself. Which brings me to my next point. These next points are relevant for all PVP types. 2. pick your battles. if it feels like your in a bad situation then get out of there. So many people are so impatient in PVP they just run around, get a kill, and die. Respawn. And repeat. Pick the right fights. Ones you know you're going to win. And if you're shield is down or you're about to die just go. Find something else. 3. So I understand you feel like everyone is more powerful so the above points might seem useless but there's one more thing. you gotta play it smart. when you see a guy don't just charge him everytime and start shooting. Play around with the map, use obstacles, move as much as you can! That can't be stressed enough MAKE YOURSELF A HARD TARGET. I think that's the biggest one man. Anyways I'm no PVP legend but I do pretty solid. Try all of these tactics and you should find it helps out. Good luck dawg.

A little word of advice. It doesn't matter if you make 4000 points in a game of you give the other team 8000. Avoid unnecessary encounters. Let you pray come to you

Dont feel bad my brother its not just you. Many of us suck at crucible i sucked so bad on my first account i haven't been back on this one . I think if you play melee pvp for a long time then switch it takes a while to transition . I am used to hitting charge or stun then moving in. Here its mainly distance fighting or blind spots. In some pvp its about twitch reflexes .in shooters that screws you all up, better to have a steady hand good hand eye coord. You try to train people here they shoot you in the back of the head. Lol

The best tips I can give are: 1) Know the maps; corners, cover, natural funnels/'game-trails' 2) Hold down a small area (not camping with a sniper or shotgun) and patrol it. I find this works best on Control where you can protect two bases. Typically the opposition see a free base and run, you can see their movement on the radar and pick them off whilst their unawares. 3) Select your loadout of both gear and armour perks/boosts wisely. Choose guns that suit your playstyle and your tactic (I typically run with TLW, Praedyth's Revenge and Swarm as it allows me to snipe to cover bases and also destroy them in close-quarters) Remember that all level advantages are disabled so selecting lower powered weapons is fine. I've found the best Auto Rifle is a green Cydonia-AR3, best shotgun is the blue Sidewinder, best sniper is apparently a blue Amina-77 although I don't have this. Look in to the intellect, disciple and strength from your armour and adjust this to how you play. Dropping down two levels to max out one of these is fine. Boots with increased heavy ammo perk and a machine gun will go a long way 4) Don't rush in, let them come to you. I make it a priority to stay alive, if I come out of the game with only 10 kills and 5 deaths then I take this as more of a success than going 15 kills and 15+ deaths.

1 ReplyEasy. Shoot people in the back and side while they're not looking. Follow teammate around and let them engage first while u cherrypick.

You'll find a lot of tips in this thread and those tips will add pennies to the jar. The real method to improve is very similar to any other craft: 1. How much time are you spending per week in PVP? (Practice) 2. Without blaming your teammate, the connection, or the opponent's advantage.. ask yourself why you died? If you take this question seriously and take responsibility for your deaths, you will learn how to begin winning more duels. (Learn) Bonus Tip: All PVP at its root are duels, or 1v1 matches. Understanding why you lose a duel will help you learn to win the next one.

Well, blink is kinda advanced. I'd hold off on that until you get comfortable with the regular style jumps or even glides. Also, keep trying different weapons. A lot. Even among one class, say hand cannons, there are a variety of kinds. High impact, low ROF, or vice versa... Auto fire, etc. I find it takes a few hundred kills with each main type to get a feel for what's comfortable. Play with the skill trees a lot, too. Some sights suck and others are great... Same goes for special weapons (I find snipers useless in PVP, but shotties and fusion rifles suit my close quarters style) Also, don't be afraid to super, a lot. It gives you an nice cushion. Oh, and stick next to your teammates. It's a good way to build up your skills. GL!

Edited by COOZE: 1/28/2015 8:24:11 AMThis game was built around the co-op campaign/raid gameplay. Crucible, or PvP, seems like an added afterthought which is poorly constructed. It's unlike any other shooter because compared to them, it's garbage at best. But it's not what Destiny was created for so you can't really blame them. They tried, and failed. But at least there's something to do after Tuesday's lol.

Pocket Infinity is the key.

You won't get good at the Pvp because it's to leggy, it's not ur fault bro.

rumble bumble + blinky dink + shooty shotgun = master race

Just keep playing. You will learn how to counter certain situations and say, "next time I'll do this"

Get the No Land Beyond. Instant death once used properly.

Lol it would be nice if they implemented a proper matchmaking system. Skill is great, but fighting Vexs and Thorns (especially when it's a whole team of them) is ridiculously tough with normal guns.

Get urself tlw or vex, but above all u need good internet

Edited by MJVigs: 1/28/2015 12:56:32 PMPick an area of the map and patrol it. Pick a spot where you have at least one long sight line and a place to escape. Try and ambush enemies that come too close, and get some shots on ones from a distance.

People Dont understand the importance of head shots or precision shots. If i run a instance with noobs i always see to few precision shots and too much autorifles spraying. Learn how to shoot precision shots. A good way to learn that is to use a handcannon. Wou will die alot at first. But once you get the hang of it you will dps more than you have ever done.

Im in the same boat takes a few games to get my mojo. Head shots, crouch slide and if that fails run around and punch some heads......
