Alright prokillers, here's your chance to school somebody who will actually appreciate it.
Quick backstory; Last time I played an FPS in PVP was when Marathon was hot property, so some of my problems may just be because I'm really rusty.
Anyway, what's the deal with PVP in Destiny? I feel like I'm just doing it all wrong...every time I blink somebody gets me with a one-shot kill and it doesn't seem to matter much what weapon they're using, or what I'm trying to do to stay alive. None of my weapons feel anywhere near as powerful as what the other team is using. Honestly I really want to like the Destiny PvP experience, because I've got a sentimental attachment to Bungie and this game is lots of fun for me in PvE.
So help me out. How do I get the most out of this game? I've got military experience (which basically boils down to having a great deal of training in following instructions) and lots of time to kill once the game ships (retired), so if you folks can boil this particular PvP system down to some basic tactical and strategic elements I'll be able to pick up on it and have fun with it, but right now I'm feeling pretty worn down after having the brakes beat off me repeatedly in the beta.
Thanks in advance for your thoughts (and for the inevitable insults from the kids table).
p.s. Don't think I'm blaming the game...obviously people are winning at PvP, so the system works...I just down understand how it works yet, so I'm not one of them.

1 ReplyPvp is more about your weps than anything imo.

2 Replieshey aboniks, i dont want to brag but im doing really good in pvp with an avarage k/d of 2.4 a high score per round etc. I want to suggest you the following things if you didnt already. The things i want to look over with you are -weapons -map -range -class -jump Starting with your weapon loadout depending on what you think of your aim you should pick your primary but lets go for my build with an autorifle since it doesnt cost you much when you miss compared to hand cannon/ scout rifle. You will be using an auto rifle like: up for anything (buy it from the vanguard) nice rate of fire and an ok damage and low recoil. And a high charge rate fusion rifle like calming or recently sold plan C. Theyre fairly easy to use and you can make quik kills. Teqnique: use your fusion as primary weapon, shoot once, look at health and ask yourself can i make another shot without dying or not. You can: do it You cant: switch to auto rifle and like 3/4 would deal enough for the remainder of health. Map: Every map has close to medium quarter area"s STAY around the area where you have the advantage (on anomaly its the entire outer ring) for the build i gave you medium range is perfect. Dont forget to look on your map often, it is pretty precise imagine where U would stand it helps a lot. RANGE: Only fight on ranges u know u can win! If u see a sniper on long range DONT BOTHER trying. He is in his element u wont probably win that. Just walk away and forget it not everyone u see needs to die instantly, walk away from impossible scenarios. Class: recovery and agilty are both good pvp stats, armor helps almost nothing. If your a warlock go fusion grenades if not use your grenade as finisher. Like when you win the fight and they go to cover use it to finish him NOT to start the fight. Jump: blink is the best choice you can disorientate people completely with it. Try it. Hopefully i helped. Top-gun29

Your not bad at it everyone else is a Laggy shotgun/fusion and panic super noob. Your welcome :D

Edited by GouldBerg988: 2/9/2015 9:40:26 AMYou have like 50 matches, it takes time, be a little more patient. I am also a FPS noob and needed 100 games on every char to get positive. I still need like 3-4 matches on every map to get into my comfort zone. Look for youtube channels that give useful PvP Tips. My favorite one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YpOAuR6CHFY

I like the Crucible personally... I'm very competitive and it allows to test my skills against others.
-
Vex Meth, Plug 1 fusion and you'd be amazed. I don't play Crucible but those guns are fantastic. I do play but 1% of the time

1 ReplyStrafe Law 101: They cant kill you if they cant hit you.
-
My biggest tip would be just knowing when you're beat. Sometimes a player gets the jump on you and there is no way you will we that battle so disengage and get out of there wait for health to regen and fight again. So many times I see players run at me with low HP and I just 1 shot them.
-
3 RepliesEveryone has their own play style when it comes to the crucible. You gotta find what you're best at and stick to that. Of course you need to be an all around player, but there are players who focus on only one play style. For example snipers, auto rifle only, campers, etc. I attached this video to show you how I play. I'm mostly a sniper, and I've excelled in the ability to snipe just by sniping all the time whenever I play pvp or pve. Subscribe to my channel if you like what you see. I will be posting more videos. Ps pvp is not for everybody. And destiny knows that, that's why the game doesn't have a strong focus on the crucible.

Auto+fusion rifle+rocket launcher= Boom. You should also turn your sensitivity up. Your ahead moves all slow if you don't turn it up. Player: I need to see! WHY DOES MY HEAD ONLY MOVE LIKE ONE INCH PER MINUTE!!! I HATE P- (Guardian electrocuted to death be fusion rifle)
-
7 RepliesYou're probably bad because this game has no balance whatsoever. You either have to use one of 4 primaries (TLW, thorn, suros or VEX) to even compete unless you have exceptional skill. Otherwise it's just shotguns, fusion rifles and auto rifles everywhere. I personally use bad juju and pocket infinity, go at least 2.5 most games I actually try in. My advice, get one of said weapons and win instantly, or find a good gun you like and get used too. Or alternatively play like everyone else and camp in corners with a shotgun.
-
Because you touch yourself at night. But honestly, there's quite a skill gap in destiny and it only gets larger with time. The ttk is pretty high in destiny with primaries so you have to practice aiming and using your radar. Along with studying the maps and learning which areas have more traffic than others, weapon experimentation to find which weapons suit your playstyle to get kills efficiently, all the required skills take time to develop. If you can find a clan to join you in some pvp, they can give you tips on the fly so you can adjust your strategies in real time. That's my best advice for developing in pvp the quickest: play with friends.
-
Keep your distance from your enemy, there are so many things that can kill you close quarters. Back off and use some distance.
-
2 RepliesCan someone rate my KD from 1-10. I play control mostly. (be honest my feelings won't be hurt)
-
Go for headshots Boost agility. Armor isn't worth it in pvp Strafe and fire Stay with your team Run when your unsure Collect yourself before engaging. If you can see them on your minimap, they can see you. Chances are that they will come to you...get them in a choke point if able. Crouching blinks you every 5 seconds in minimap Guns you have are decent, but if you die before using your lmg, use a rocket launcher. A fusion rifle over that invective may serve you better Shadow price is a great auto rifle Play conservatively...2v1 spells doom without super/heavy ammo
-
Buddy up with a team member, stay outside of kill zones (shoot in them), observe how you are being killed and adopt those tactics.
-
You want my advice? Make a warlock. Tankiness of a titan and the blink of a hunter. Best of both worlds. Get s shotgun with rangefinder or shot package. Practice with that and blink. Find a nice auto rifle. I recommend the vanquisher, Suros or, if you can aim well, the Monte Carlo. Works well for me. Then get an rpg with high velocity, blast radius and reload speed. If you can get proximity detonation, that works. I'll shift my warlock around so you can see what I use. Look at my subclass setup too.
-
the raids help a lot actually, train with those then try pvp again afterwards.
-
Nade first. Then fire. You have to learn your fighting style. Pvp and pve are completely different animals in Destiny. What works in pve will just get you demolished in PvP. But you always start with nades THEN bullets, super as soon it's charged! Don't wait for groups or "perfect" moments. If your supers up and you got one guy in front of you only GIVE IT TO HIM!
-
Edited by girflush: 2/8/2015 7:20:11 AMYou just have to play, a lot. Exotic weapons help but I've seen plenty guys top of the leaderboard with rare guns before. The essential skills IMO are quick and accurate target acquisition, quick decision making and reaction, strafing and movement, map awareness, and an awareness of what your opponents are attempting to do, their playstyle and methods..

Hey aboniks, I'll try help here as much as I can but personally I can't be certain as I've always been naturally ok at pvp.. I find that in the crucible it DOESNT matter what gun you use (some exceptions e.g. KHVOSTOV) I think team work is the main helpful tip I can give you, good communication with a team off friends almost assures victory.. If you can't get a team then take time to get to know the map, ask it out on a date and find the best spots to be in, also ways to flank said spots if enemies are in them.. Next is knowing where the heavy ammo will spawn, this is MAJOR because lots of times heavy ammo has turned one of my bad games into one of my good games, a spree from heavy ammo can get you in the right mind set to win... Another tip I have is supers, know when to use them, some supers like golden gun and sundance (not sure the name of the sunsinger super even though it's my most used XD) super are essential to winning, you need to know your super better than you know your own mums name... My last tip is not giving up, countless times I have been in a team where my score is marginally the highest yet I've lost due to a bad team, also many times my team has been down a few thousand points but pulled together at the end and sought victory, if something bad happens don't feel cheated, if you played well then be happy if you won or lost, and if you feel as if there's no hope left to win then what do you have nothing more to lose!.... I sincerely hope this helps you excel in PvP :)
