Alright prokillers, here's your chance to school somebody who will actually appreciate it.
Quick backstory; Last time I played an FPS in PVP was when Marathon was hot property, so some of my problems may just be because I'm really rusty.
Anyway, what's the deal with PVP in Destiny? I feel like I'm just doing it all wrong...every time I blink somebody gets me with a one-shot kill and it doesn't seem to matter much what weapon they're using, or what I'm trying to do to stay alive. None of my weapons feel anywhere near as powerful as what the other team is using. Honestly I really want to like the Destiny PvP experience, because I've got a sentimental attachment to Bungie and this game is lots of fun for me in PvE.
So help me out. How do I get the most out of this game? I've got military experience (which basically boils down to having a great deal of training in following instructions) and lots of time to kill once the game ships (retired), so if you folks can boil this particular PvP system down to some basic tactical and strategic elements I'll be able to pick up on it and have fun with it, but right now I'm feeling pretty worn down after having the brakes beat off me repeatedly in the beta.
Thanks in advance for your thoughts (and for the inevitable insults from the kids table).
p.s. Don't think I'm blaming the game...obviously people are winning at PvP, so the system works...I just down understand how it works yet, so I'm not one of them.

1 ReplyCause everyone in pvp uses exotics like last word, suros, and thorn and that out guns every legendary out there. If you want to win fight fire with fire buddy. Panic supers, op exotics, and camp with shotguns or use blink while using a shotgun. The one I hate most is when people use plan c lol omg I lose my shit

Learn the maps.. If you can judge where someone is on the map based off of the radar then you'll be able to control the game. Personally I like to use a slow RoF auto rifles and a shotgun. Mainly controlling the map and leading people into close quarters so I can two piece them (shot gun/melee). That being said if you're having a hard time staying alive, try hanging back and following a player that is down well. That way you can still assist in kills (getting lots of points) and learn different playing styles.

2 Repliesconnection can play a big role. some games the host is just crap and my bullets that should have clearly hit someone misses, or shots that should have missed didn't. I had a game today where I had 10 kills and 0.5 kd. next game no lag, went 27 with 1.93 kd. The game seems to not give a shit about who the host is, and gives it to timmy who lives next to mcdonalds and is stealing their wifi.

Because of shotguns, fusion rifles, warlocks 10 foot melee radius, shoulder charge, and any super

I use brutality I get angry and these battle tactics come Over me, I blame the players for all my problems and FIND A WAY TO KILL THEM Like a Titan I'll charge you, no hesitation, keep shooting, there's no stopping what's coming to you

It's all strategy. Shotguns are okay but won't make u a dominant player. Take the time to learn how to snipe. Don't run into rooms where players are waiting for u. If you know the other teams are using shotgun then hang back and back up while your shooting at them. If you kill one player and the other player is near toss your grenade and back off. Run away if u have to. Know where your players are as well as the other team. They protect u. Praedyth the sniper is a two shot body kill with quick rate of fire so you can get two shots of in the time of one with other snipers unless they get a dome shot. Strafe a lot while shooting. There's a lot more but that's what I've got for now.

3 RepliesI wish they didn't have radar, can't flank or do anything smart someone can always camp the radar, so joint

58 RepliesEdited by DeraIeS: 1/21/2015 4:14:38 PMI copied my post from another thread. I hope it will help you somehow. If u have any other questions just ask. http://destinytracker.com/destiny/crucible/ps/DeraIeS Hunter Bladedancer K/D 3.08 Weapons - Shadow Price, Found Verdict, Corrective Measure Exotic armor - Knucklehead radar Skillset: Arcbolt grenade Blink Vanish Backstab Path Forgotten - Thoughness and speed Quickdraw Way of the Fearless - Toughness at all cost Stalker I mainly play control, but I also play skirmish, salvage, and class if there is a bounty for it. Tips: Most important thing is to understand how your class works. I think that I mastered bladedancer in 100%. This class has pros and cons as every other class, but if you learn them you will benefit a lot. It is important to understand what you can do and what u cannot. I have chosen particular equipment and skill setup because they fit my playstyle. I always knew that bladedancer will be my main character, even before the game was released. In my opinion bladedancer is hardest character to learn and to play. I remember my first tries with blink when i unlocked it. I totally hated it as it was really hard to use it. I was not even able to jump into the window on Firebase Delphi from point C building and i got back to double jump few times. However, I still tried to learn to use blink as it was just cool. Now i am just glad that i did try as blink is the best jump in the game for pvp. It gives so much mobility that it's just incredible. I use it to get very fast to certain locations, backdoor opponents, or just escape from them. If i get into very bad situation like 1vsXXX opponents i can just blink away and hide or blink in and use arc blade. I started with blink as it is most important and most challenging part of bladedancer, but now grenades. On the start i thought that bladedancer has worst grenades in the game. First grenade which u have to stick to an enemy to kill and second which can only be used to block the pathway are not too impressive. In contrast to them arcbolt has awesome uses which i started to see after some time. It is the truth that it does not kill, but there is more to that. This is the best grenade because it instantly deals damage to all opponents in the very wide area. It is great to throw it on the point and then just finish all enemies off as they lost most of their hps. I decided to use Backstab perk for the blink strike, because in my opinion it is most useful in pvp. There is no sense in reducing its cooldown as it is already very low with a lot of strength and invisibility is not that useful in close range combat in pvp; i got an advantage from it only one time. That is a reason why i think that backstab is the best, one hit kill. I decides to go Armor - Agility - Recovery because recovery is totally useless in 1v1 combat. Hunter already has a lot of mobility, so armor is most important as you can take more damage. I chose quickdraw, because i did not need 3 sec longer invisibility, and did not need to run and slide faster because as i mentioned hunter already has a lot of mobility. Moreover, i prefer to use blink to get to enemies than just run on them. The last part of the skillset is arc blade. The reason why i have chosen invisibility over extended arc blade or heal after kill is pretty simple, because i benefits from it more often. I use arc blade around 2 times per match. I don't like to waste it on one person or use it as a panic button. Many people whine about that bladedancer is op because of arc blade, but for me the reason why bladedancer is special are blink and invisibility. I use it very often to challenge my opponents as it gives me an advantage as i am not fully visible and opponents are not sure if they really see me, found verdict <3 Moreover, it is good to become invincible when you are low on health and need to wait for ur hp to recover. And for the gameplay. Use the radar, it is your best friend. Try to predict where ur opponents can go or can be. Don't run mindlessly on the target. If u see few enemies and u don't have ways kill them try to lure them out and kill one by one or find another way and backdoor them. Use ur abilitiws wisely, don't just waste them. They give u a huge advantage over opponents. Use blink to move fast. Always use cover and get advantage from the location in which u are. Remember that if you crouch for some time u disappear from the radar for short time, it will confuse enemies. If enemy is just on ur head blink in the air or blink away so u have a chance to spot them and kill. Blink is also a great tool to dodge supers. And the last thing, arc blade can also be used as escape tool, it does not matter that u did not kill with it. U survived and you can help your team. I guess that's a pretty long explanation of my choices and playstyle. I hope that i helped. My best match ever. Great multikills and 3 supers dodged http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=t0dmGNgWFg4 Short clip with very fast start on skirmish. I have taken a whole team down instantly. http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=usVDeLQgGH4 Edit, Use hvy ammo, always. Edit 2, if u have any questions or comments just write ;) Edit 3, i decided to go for max armor because it affect combat most. Hunter already has a lot of mobility and recovery is used out of combat. Maybe it is only 1 bullet more which you can take, but it was too often the difference between life and death for me.

Edited by An Actual Noob: 2/10/2015 10:02:13 AMMap control is huge in this game, it can completely shut out teams because the maps are pretty unbalanced and the radar blocks every opportunity to make a push, if a team spawntrapped yours theres almost nothing you can do, most teams that set up snipers on every entrance to their spawn, usually efrideets spears with final round, cheap as f and i quit out at that point because its pointless to try with 5 morons that are suiciding into the enemy spawn. Know your limits, focus your map awareness and predict enemy movement, dont push alone, learn to snipe and for starters get a last word, the easiest most op primary you can use. When heavy pops up dont grab it alone as its a potential gamechanger. Get a proximity rocketlauncher with high velocity, gjallarhorn and truth work best, legendarys really depends on rngesus ofc watching streamers that are good at pvp can teach you a lot and dont be afraid to ask them questions about their decisions in their games. Examples of who you could watch are probably "wish you luck" "AEgabriel" "WTFisPOSHY" and "Fizzor" just to name a few

Takes time first you hate it then you get good and it becomes more fun but i still am not a fan.

Make a Hunter Get the last word All you have to do

Here's a few pointers (kd "whopping" 1.3 :p) *Always try to keep track on where the enemy team is. You can estimate their location by looking at where your team dies, where it doesn't and which points does your team hold (control). They'll most likely try to go around your friends and take the point that no-one is defending. *Aim for the head (no shit sherlock!) *If you know that enemy is behind the corner, start shooting just before they come out. *When capturing a point with a teammate and an enemy is approaching, one of you should go and face the enemy instead of just pooping on the flag. That'll stop the enemy from killing you both with ult. *Be mobile. Don't stop.
-
Try to focus on map control
-
Strafe. Use cover. Don't be afraid to run. Use guns with high stability.
-
First you need weapons. Ar/shotty combo is good if you have aiming problems. Second, learn the maps. Know where and when heavy ammo spawns. Play smart. Dont rush 24/7 like a midless chicken. If one path doesnt work for you, choose another. Radar. Learn to use it effectively. Start from those.

8 RepliesSince no one is mentioning it... I checked your profile and nearly half to more than half your kills are ability, being Titan I'm guessing shoulder charge or super. Melee should be your last resort or only used when you know you can get a kill with it. Example, you're in someone's face and both of you have expended your weapon, instead of trying to reload just charge in and punch them. Keep your distance otherwise unless you are confident with cqc with such weapons. Most people in pvp use autos, shotties, and fusion rifles, and all of which are weak to range (autos not as bad as the latter). When your team charges in hold back or follow after a team mate and stick to them. Sometimes winning a match is all down to map control and knowing where to sit or go. You're equally stronger with a meatshie... Er... Teammate... Though take some time to learn the maps, sniper spots, ammo spots, ect... As these areas will be clustered. https://account.xbox.com/en-us/gameclip/590a54e6-11bb-4a8d-9495-3b11fe2bfeed?gamerTag=KSI+JaxTheSkunk&scid=03a80100-9ff3-46ea-be76-e00e7fe465df Use your location to your advantage and save your super for when you can inflict the most damage... Don't just use it on one person wasting it when you can destroy and entire team clustered together with it. Pm for more? Add me if you're xbl and want to run with me.

Ok, here's my 2 cents and maybe someone else can prove me wrong: 1. don't run or at least stop running way before you think you'll see someone on the other team. 2. use fully upgraded weapons, a blue fully upgraded in crucible is better than a purple or yellow one that isn't. This is what I've seen--if say all weapons are evened out at like a 100 damage each, each upgrade you don't have screws you over against armor that is fully upgraded.
