Alright prokillers, here's your chance to school somebody who will actually appreciate it.
Quick backstory; Last time I played an FPS in PVP was when Marathon was hot property, so some of my problems may just be because I'm really rusty.
Anyway, what's the deal with PVP in Destiny? I feel like I'm just doing it all wrong...every time I blink somebody gets me with a one-shot kill and it doesn't seem to matter much what weapon they're using, or what I'm trying to do to stay alive. None of my weapons feel anywhere near as powerful as what the other team is using. Honestly I really want to like the Destiny PvP experience, because I've got a sentimental attachment to Bungie and this game is lots of fun for me in PvE.
So help me out. How do I get the most out of this game? I've got military experience (which basically boils down to having a great deal of training in following instructions) and lots of time to kill once the game ships (retired), so if you folks can boil this particular PvP system down to some basic tactical and strategic elements I'll be able to pick up on it and have fun with it, but right now I'm feeling pretty worn down after having the brakes beat off me repeatedly in the beta.
Thanks in advance for your thoughts (and for the inevitable insults from the kids table).
p.s. Don't think I'm blaming the game...obviously people are winning at PvP, so the system works...I just down understand how it works yet, so I'm not one of them.

Don't worry destiny is not competitive

Edited by Racebum: 2/19/2015 1:05:51 AMyou're getting some pretty good advice, i'll just throw one thing out there and it's really the reason i don't pvp much in destiny. time.....it takes time to learn the maps and get behavior patterns of players down. guns are also a HUGE variable in destiny. the difference between the good weapons and not so good weapons is massive.i spent a good deal of time on black ops 2 and actually got pretty good at it having countless 1st place finishes, 10 kill steaks almost daily etc. in destiny, if i wonder into pvp i will probably get a .6 to .7kd my fist match, if i play for an hour i'll be up over 1.0 and the last time i did ten matches i was above 2.0 on a few of them. i just don't enjoy playing more than 1-2 at a time which is why my overall pvp kd pretty bad. black ops 2 on the other hand, i played that for hours, so, naturally i have a 1.3x kd at 5th prestige also consider some pvp games just don't work for some people. i loved mw1 & mw2, hated mw3, was okay with black ops, loved black ops 2 and don't hate crucible as bad as mw3 but don't enjoy it either. try playing for a couple hours a day, if after a week you don't care for it move to pve or a game you do enjoy.

Get thorn, win

I wouldn't say im a beast at PvP but I do know that whoever hits first usually wins. Aim high for the head and shoot first. Never attack when ur shield is even a little bit down and don't go directly to where the fight is. Stay back and wait for one stupid enough to split from the rest of the group then go for the kill. Good luck, hope I helped somewhat.

If you have shit Internet like me you will never be a decent pvp. Thank you frontier!

Movement is important. Watch videos of people who are ripping it up; they always move. Anticipate the enemy. Get to know the maps. Observe movement patterns. Once you get down the typical patterns you should be able to get kills before the other guy knows what's going on. Let them come to you, (with the exception being if you're all by yourself and they're all coming to you. In that situation GTFO) :)

I find people try to hunt you down if you kill them so if you camp in a good spot they'll just keep running to you. Or you sit in a place that they frequently go through. Then just get those tasty HS. If you don't have an exotics use an AR with as much stability as possible. For heavy weapon I suggest low fire rate high impact like the swarm they destroy people in about 4 shots

1 ReplyGetting headshots is not only a required skill, but a way of life in Destiny. Find a gun with predictable and controllable recoil, learn its firing pattern, aim for the head, win. Takes time to master but is definitely worth the effort.

Edited by scizmo: 2/17/2015 10:03:02 PMPvp basically sucks in this game. Raiding (if anything) is where It's at. If you really wanna do pvp though, I find it helps to draw the enemy to you. Let them make the mistake. You definitely can't run and gun like cod4 and expect to survive easily unless you're playing scrubs.

3 RepliesEdited by Sandmitches: 2/18/2015 8:19:14 AMBecause us assholes are using hawkmoon, thorn, last word, against all odds, suros regime, blink shotgun combo, plan c blink combo, pocket infinity, and just shotguns in general as a primary for 90% of the game... and you aren't.

You'll definitely want to equip guns with good impact and stability and with a range that suits your playing style. Aim for the head! As for strategy, staying on the move is quite important. As you've seen, it doesn't take long to go down, so if someone gets the drop on you, you'll want to try to get to cover ASAP. Map knowledge helps immensely. It will make your radar more useful and you'll know where to expect the enemy.

so military experience is supposed to help u or something? anyway, there is no fixing it shortcut wise. to be good you just have to play a lot. you will eventually get better depending on where ur natural talent is. watch YouTube video of others playing to see if you are making any errors such as poor defensive positioning, etc. Otherwise it all comes down to aim, which will get better over time. don't forget to try different weapons and maybe move out of your comfort zone and try new strategies as well.

You should try out Suros.

1 ReplyMilitary expeirience? Dude play bf4 or csgo where team stuff is slighlty vetter and slighly more real
-
You need real advice, use An exotic. Works great for getting use to the game cause they are over powered. But really even it out for you cause we all use one so get one and keep up!
-
1 Replyi play alot of pvp so imo the most important thing is sensitivity. pick one where when you track their head, a little jerk doesnt completely throw you off target esp when they are strafing as for guns it really doesnt matter if you can shoot, but to make things easier.. suros voc thorn for xbone lastword and vex is okay too and obviously hawkmoon if your on the ps4...

Because destiny pvp sucks
